  • He replaced Melvyn Bragg as the host of "Start The Week" on BBC Radio Four in 1999, following the former's elevation to the House of Lords.

  • He doesn't know much about music. In 2020, on University Challenge, he revealed that he had never even heard of the Polar Music Prize, Sweden's most prestigious music honour, when he was sarcastic about the award. It has been conferred on some of the most acclaimed musicians of the modern era.
