Promotion for Kristian Connelly and new hires at Cinema Nova

Cinema Nova has elevated general manager Kristian Connelly to CEO, a reward for 12 years’ exemplary service, and hired two creative content executives.

Announcing the promotion, Cinema Nova co-directors Natalie Miller and Barry Peak said: “Kristian has spearheaded Cinema Nova very successfully over more than a decade, making Cinema Nova the top-ranked art house venue in country. We look forward to even more successful and exciting times ahead.”

Connelly said: “It continues to be my absolute pleasure to lead our team under the direction of Natalie Miller and Barry Peak. We are coming off a record-breaking summer and as we survey a promising start to the decade, I look forward to reaching new heights with the evergreen Cinema Nova brand.”

Before joining Cinema Nova Connelly served as a film programmer for Village Cinemas for six years.

Ward, Entwistle, Peak honoured by Independent Cinemas Association
Long-time exhibitor and distributor Robert Ward is the recipient of this year.s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Independent Cinemas Association of Australia (Icaa).

Ross Entwistle and Barry Peak have also been honoured by Icaa as the inaugural recipients of the Mark Sarfaty Award for outstanding contribution to independent cinemas in the past year.

The awards were presented as part of the Icaa Conference which has been happening at Sydney.s Dendy Opera Quays this week.

Entwistle and Peak have been recognised for their hard work in putting a virtual print fee deal in place to help independent exhibitors . including non-icaa members . meet the cost of converting to digital.

As Icaa says on its website, they .put the interests of members before their own businesses in spending countless hours negotiating this scheme...

Roadshow offers tribute to Ian Sands
Roadshow Films used its presentation at the Australian International Movie Convention to celebrate the achievements of Ian Sands, who worked for the company for 38 years.

Sands passed away on July 30, from complications after a heart transplant.

Managing director Joel Pearlman expressed that for many in the industry, Sands had been “a colleague, and at Roadshow, a pretty incredible boss and a mentor; a quintessential film man”.

National sales manager Brett Rosengarten shared his memories of Sands, whom he met when he joined Roadshow in 1995.

“Ian was an incredible man, and evidence of that are the more than 500 people who turned up at this funeral. His career spans 38 years, from the moment he started with Fox in 1972 as an assistant booker, and joining Roadshow the following year,” said Rosengarten.
