Chicago – Television continues to be a hot medium for new voices and creativity. Among the official selections for the Independent Pilot Competition at the 12th Annual New York Television Festival are seven pilots made right here in the Midwest. Those seven will be featured at the Midwest Pilot Showcase, at this month’s Midwest Independent Film Festival, Tuesday, Oct. 4th, 2016 (6pm). The festival takes place at the Landmark Century Centre in Chicago.

From the improv mastery of T.J. Jagodowski and David Pasquesi, to the diverse point of view from Indian-American creator Puja Mohindra, the Pilot Showcase is an amazing line-up of comedy, drama and inspiration. The pre-show Producers Panel (6:30p) will feature screenwriter Chris Parrish, whose TV credits include “The King of Queens” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” For the complete line up and ticket information. click here.

New Line Cinema has picked up Senior Class, a pitch by Chris Parrish that Jay Cohen and Oliver Hudson are producing through their respective Cosmic Entertainment and Workshed banners. Jay Schinderman is on board to produce as well. In the vein of Grumpy Old Men, Class tells the story of an older man who moves into an upscale retirement community only to find out that he doesn't fit in because of high school-like rivalries that play out between popular and unpopular crowds. Marc Kaufman, Matt Moore and Luke Ryan are overseeing. Parrish was a writer on television's The King of Queens and wrote the pilot Old School, which starred Natasha Lyonne. He also wrote Cindy Crawford Wants to Bone Me, which is set up at New Line. Parrish is repped by Genesis.
