Nicholas Papademetriou was born in Sydney to Cypriot parents who immigrated in 1948. He has always wanted to act. He studied at one of Sydney's best schools of (Canterbury Boys High School) and graduated from the prestigious drama school the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 1984, although he had his first professional theatre acting job in 1973. Since WAAPA he has worked extensively in film, television and theatre as an actor, director and producer. His theatre work includes work with all the major companies in Australia including Sydney Theatre Company and Melbourne Theatre Company. He has also performed on stages in New York, Edinburgh, London and Cyprus. He was one of only 6 Australian actors chosen to work with legendary film director Mike Leigh on a new theatre project called Greek Tragedy which played in Sydney, London and Edinburgh. His one man show SNAG did sell out seasons in Sydney, New York and Edinburgh and was nominated in NYC and Edinburgh for Best Solo Performance. In film he is best known for his roles in Death in Brunswick (with Sam Neill), Past Midnight (with Maeve Dermody), Sparks (AFI winner), The Veiled and for his short film Swinger which has been selected for a number of film festivals around the world including place winner at Chicago Greek Film Festival and Open Fields Film Festival. In television he has appeared in many programs including guest roles in most Australian long running programs, the lead in the 8 part ABC series Stringer, a regular in the main acting ensemble of Grass Roots (both seasons), and principle roles in Cyclone Tracy and Stark. Most recently his theatre work includes George in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and the lead role in The Caretaker; and for film he plays Severo in Dead Not Dying, a short film for which he won Best Supporting Actor at Melbourne City Independent Film Awards (Feb 2018).
