Uma Thurman and Samuel L Jackson didn’t share any screen time in Pulp Fiction (though their paths crossed briefly in Kill Bill Vol 2) so this comic thriller can take credit for turning the Tarantino twosome into a double-act for the first time. Thurman plays Patrice, a highly strung, Adderall-snorting Manhattan gallery owner whose acquisitions haven’t exactly set the art world alight. Enter Gordon (Jackson), a Brooklyn bialy baker and underworld stooge who proposes funnelling mob money through her books as supposed payment for artworks.
Local hoodlum Reggie (Joe Manganiello) puts paintbrush to canvas to create these bogus masterpieces, which are credited to “the Bagman” since he suffocates his enemies with carrier bags. Unexpectedly, he becomes the toast of New York, making a killing...

Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson star in The Kill Room, offering a glimmer of hope for their careers in this understated but funny dark satire about hitmen and the art world. The movie has a creative plot and a charismatic cast that helps land the punchlines, but its clumsy pacing and stagnant execution hold it back. Despite its flaws, The Kill Room offers a humorous take on the art world and its criminal underbelly, with enjoyable performances from Thurman, Jackson, and Manganiello.
Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson are actors who used to garner great excitement for the projects they starred in. Lately, that excitement isn’t quite there as the duo, outside of recognizable IP films, haven’t picked the best projects for their particular talents. Most of the time, we discover very little information about what goes on behind-the-scenes in the making of a movie. We often don’t hear about the day-to-day issues that the cast and crew face as they’re trying to put a project together, but sometimes an event can be so powerful it even influences the story so that filming can wrap on schedule. In an interview with Collider's Emily Bernard, The Kill Room director Nicol Paone revealed that this happened in a crucial moment of the story.

Nicol Paone believes Uma Thurman is the perfect person to play Patrice in 'The Kill Room'.The 53-year-old actress has been reunited with Samuel L. Jackson for the new thriller film, and Nicol - the movie's director - believes Uma is perfectly suited to the role of Patrice, an art dealer who gets involved with a money laundering scheme.Nicol told Collider: "It was because I was hounding Danielle Thomas, who is a partner at Untitled, to read the script. I just was bothering her for about a year thinking it's right up her alley. I know she'll love it, she's an art collector, she’s a big Broadway fanatic. It was her sensibility. And I was right, she loved it, and she happened to represent Uma Thurman and asked me if she could send it to Uma. "But before, while I was on a walk, my partner asked...

Nicol Paone stepped behind the camera for the second time with The Kill Room and managed to do something that hasn't happened in film in nearly 30 years – reunite Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson. Her dark comedy about the art world has a strong cast all the way down, including Joe Manganiello and Thurman's daughter Maya Hawke. Getting Thurman and Jackson back together for the first time since Pulp Fiction is quite the feat, however, and something that excited her, especially considering she had at least one of them in mind from the get-go.

'The Kill Room' was rewritten in a day for Samuel L. Jackson.Director Nicol Paone has revealed how finding out Jackson was available meant the script needed reworking just before Christmas to make the character more suited to the Hollywood megastar's style of acting. She told Collider: "That role is really interesting because it was written as Herschel, a 72-year-old Jewish man."And when we were discussing the casting, Uma [Thurman] texted me, 'Is Sam Jackson an option?' And I was like, 'Are you kidding? Of course.'"And so Jonathan and I had a day to rewrite the script before the Christmas break to get it to Sam."Despite needing to do some work over the festive period, Paone admitted it was a "great problem" to be faced with. She added: "I was also meeting my fiancée's family that day over Christmas, and so I basically had to go in,...

An exclusive clip for crime thriller The Kill Room has arrived, reuniting Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman on the cast list for the first time in two decades.
In The Kill Room clip, Uma Thurman’s art dealer Patrice approaches Samuel L. Jackson’s Gordon in a bakery seeking a piece of art she can sell. Gordon is a bit cagey and the two go back and forth on “financial legitimacy”, which seems like an awfully tame term for what they’re about to engage in. This is set up earlier in the movie, when we see Gordon pitching Patrice to sell a piece of art, knowing she has a financial problem that she needs help with. What does Gordon get in return? A cut…and certainly a little something else.

The Kill Room, the darkly comedic crime thriller by director Nicol Paone, brings together Uma Thurman, Joe Manganiello, and Samuel L. Jackson. The movie tells the tale of a contract killer, his employer, and an art dealer whose attempts at money laundering inadvertently transform the assassin into an unexpected cultural phenomenon. As the realms of organized crime and the art world collide, the story takes a captivating turn.

What is art? Is something only valuable when we decide that it’s valuable? Ah, now we’re talking. Directed by Nicol Paone and written by Jonathan Jacobson, The Kill Room is a comedy-infused thriller that follows Patrice (Uma Thurman), a down-on-her-luck art gallery owner who spends more time trying to please both her fading and potential clients than she does actually appreciating what they produce. Between the bills and the drugs, she is getting a bit desperate. Enter — quite unexpectedly — Samuel L. Jackson’s wise-cracking Gordon and his hitman colleague Reggie (Joe Manganiello), both of whom need a better, more creative way to launder money.

There’s a really good movie lurking at the corners of The Kill Room. As the story unfolds, you can clearly see some elements that, if pursued further, could greatly elevate the experience. However, the Nicol Paone movie – a follow-up to the director’s 2020 debut Friendsgiving – chooses to play it safe most of the time, despite the narrative begging for it to go deeper.

For the record, The Kill Room's director, Nicol Paone, is an art-lover. At the onset of our Zoom interview, Paone revealed her long-standing relationship with fine art and its industry: her close friend is an art advisor, and it was vicariously through her, over the course of the last decade, that Paone learned the ins and outs of art, how its sold, and, more importantly, how it is perceived. "I'm just fascinated by it and what makes people attracted to a certain piece," she said. "I'm fascinated by the moment when an artist — or a piece — goes wider, bigger, and gets recognition."
Set in the contemporary art world, not unlike the one Paone just touched on, The Kill Room follows Patrice (Uma Thurman), an art dealer whose career is circling the drain. In order to do right by the artists she represents, the studio she owns, and the collectors she sells to,...

The art world is a cutthroat and judgemental arena. You’re the cat’s pajamas one day, but you’re old news if you take too long to deliver your next masterpiece. Surrounded by snobbery, bitter wine, and diamond-encrusted vultures waiting to pick your talented bones clean, artists endure a lot to remain relevant, and some would even kill for the chance to keep their spot in the public eye. The world of art has often come across as an eccentric, pretentious, and enigmatic place to outsiders who aren't art collectors or dealers. The typical image that is conjured about art consumers is wealthy people who stare in awe and concentration at paintings that can vary in different styles, from minimalism to surrealism. The strange culture of art has been depicted in recent movies such as Velvet Buzzsaw and The French Dispatch. Another upcoming film focused on the art world will join this collection which is Nicol Paone's dark comedy thriller The Kill Room.

Maya Hawke has established herself as an accomplished and talented actress, despite the challenge of being overshadowed by her famous parents. She has appeared in multiple film projects and joined the cast of Stranger Things, proving her versatility and rising success in Hollywood. Maya Hawke has faced criticism and negativity due to her lineage, but she remains resilient and focused on her career, even collaborating with her father on a biographical film.
Maya Hawke has proven many times that she is way more than just the daughter of two amazing actors. However, for the Stranger Things star, it is still hard to step out of the shadows of her parents Ethan Hawke and Uma Thruman, especially with social media's recent obsession with the concept of nepo babies in Hollywood.
Hawke made her acting debut in the BBC's 2017 adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic Little Women, playing the legendary Jo March.

Uma Thurman and Maya Hawke are making their onscreen debut together in the dark comedy crime movie “The Kill Room.”

Tarantino on Why Michelle Yeoh Wasn’t in ‘Kill Bill’: Unbelievable ‘Uma Thurman Could Kick Your Ass’
Michelle Yeoh knows why her longtime fan, Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino, didn’t cast her in his martial arts film “Kill Bill.”
Tarantino has been open about the fact that vengeful The Bride (Uma Thurman) was directly inspired by Yeoh’s role in 1992 action-comedy “Police Story 3,” but Yeoh was never asked to battle it out with The Bride in either “Kill Bill” or its sequel.
In a Town & Country cover story, Yeoh admitted that she “asked Quentin the same question” about not being cast in the 2003 movie or its subsequent 2004 “Vol. 2.”
“He’s very smart,” Yeoh said of Tarantino. “He said, ‘Who would believe that Uma Thurman could kick your ass?'”
Tarantino shared that he has been a “huge, huge fan” of Yeoh for decades. “There was always a twinkle in her eye,” the “Hateful Eight” director explained.
And the admiration is mutual: “Everything Everywhere All at Once...
