Image
One of the fastest-expanding companies on the Spanish-language drama series scene, Btf Media, is teaming with Argentina-based author-historian Uki Goñi on one of Bft Media’s biggest titles ever, a small screen makeover of Goñi’s most celebrated work: “The Real Odessa: Smuggling the Nazis to Perón’s Argentina.”

Based on Goñi’s research and access to Argentine, Swiss, American, British, and Belgian government archives, the series will double down of how Nazis found safe haven in Argentina. That came thanks to Argentine President Juan Perón and, most shockingly, as the incipient Cold War reshaped government priorities, the collusion of both the Catholic Church and Allied intelligence agencies who provided escape routes – ratlines – and sanctuary for war criminals.

“We are extremely satisfied to announce this agreement. Uki is an extraordinary writer and his research has had wide repercussion in those countries that collaborated with Nazi criminals in their escape”, said Ivonne Vela,...

“At Btf we have always believed in the importance of diversity. That is why it is a priority for us to continue expanding the spectrum of opportunities to more women within industry,” said Ivonne Vela, communication coordinator at Btf Media.

Spanish Singer Sentenced For Money Laundering
Madrid -- A Spanish court has sentenced popular Spanish folk singer Isabel Pantoja to two years in jail after convicting her of money laundering.

Pantoja is not likely to go to jail, as first sentences of two years or less are generally suspended in Spain.

The Malaga city court Tuesday also fined her 1.2 million euros ($1.57 million).

Pantoja was found guilty of laundering money for Julian Munoz, a former boyfriend and one-time mayor of the resort city of Marbella.

Munoz, who was sentenced to seven years, ran a scheme of providing building permits in Marbella in return for bribes.

Pantoja is a fixture in Spain's gossip magazines and TV shows. She was married to the famous bullfighter Francisco "Paquirri" Rivera, who died in the bullring in 1984.

Sean Connery fails to appear in Spanish court
Letter from actor cites health reasons for non-appearance at Costa del Sol corruption trial

Sir Sean Connery has failed to appear in court in Marbella where he and his wife had been summoned to testify in a corruption case.

In a letter delivered to the court, Connery, 80, cited his and his wife's age and health reasons for their non-appearance. He also claimed that he had insufficient time to make travel arrangements to get from the couple's home in the Bahamas to the Costa del Sol.

The actor had been threatening to sue for damages on the grounds that the allegations have caused him both personal and financial harm. But in the letter he apparently apologises for not appearing and says the couple are willing to co-operate with the court. Legal sources in Marbella suggested the issue could be resolved through a rogatory commission – that is, that Connery and his wife could testify in the Bahamas.

Sean Connery summoned by Spanish court
Summons a result of an investigation that the authorities inevitably dubbed Operation Goldfinger

Sir Sean Connery and his wife, Micheline, have been summoned to appear in court in Marbella on the Costa del Sol tomorrow in a corruption case.

The summons are the result of an investigation that the authorities inevitably dubbed Operation Goldfinger and centre around the 1998 sale of Malibu, the house that Connery and his wife owned for several decades. The house was sold for €6.4m (£5.6m). The summons relates to €2.7m that the local authority claims it is owed and to the 72 luxury flats built on the site after Connery sold it, when planning permission had only been given for five family houses. The flats allegedly yielded a €53m profit.

As well as Connery and his wife, Micheline Roquebrune, 25 others have been caught up in Operation Goldfinger, among them Julián Muñoz, the former mayor of Marbella, his ex-wife Mayte Zaldívar,...
