Christene Palmer

Ms Palmer first appeared in the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company as Principal
Contralto in 1965. She played the following roles: Buttercup in "HMS
Pinafore" (also recorded), Ruth in "The Pirates of Penzance", Jane in
"Patience", Fairy Queen in "Iolanthe", Blanche in "Princess Ida" (also
recorded), Katisha in "The Mikado", Dame Hannah in "Ruddigore", Dame
Carruthers in "The Yeomen of the Guard", and The Duchess of Plaza Toro
in "The Gondoliers". She left the company in 1971. Prior to joining the
D'Oyly Carte, Ms Palmer appeared with several opera companies in
Australia, and since leaving the Carte she has worked as a concert
singer and also has directed many amateur companies in performances of
the Gilbert and Sullivan Operas.
