The synopsis reads as follows:

It’s five years since we left Nessa down on one knee declaring her love for Smithy and asking him to marry her. And a lot has happened in those five years.In Barry, Bryn’s packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex; Stacey and Gavin are looking for new ways to spice up their seventeen year marriage and Gwen is behaving most strangely.

BBC Studios has announced the titles coming to BritBox in January 2025, which include everything from new BritBox Originals to classic British fare. BritBox is a digital video subscription service offering the largest collection of British TV in the U.S. and Canada.

Finishing a beloved sitcom is an almost impossible task. Shows like The Office, Parks and Rec, M*A*S*H, and Friends all successfully brought their final seasons to a close without upsetting fans, while How I Met Your Mother crashed and burned. The adored British sitcom, Gavin and Stacey will air it's final ever episode this Christmas. But co-creators James Cordon and Ruth Jones have teased that the finale isn't what anyone is expecting.

Speaking to The Big Issue, Ruth Jones and James Cordon gave one final update on Gavin & Stacey's finale. Fans have a multitude of questions, like will Nessa and Smithy finally get together? What will Gavin and Stacey be like as parents? And, what happened on that fishing trip? But Ruth Jones tells fans to expect the unexpected. "I keep telling people this finale might not be what you are expecting," the writer and actress said.

James Corden has shared that he has finished writing the script for the final episode of UK comedy Gavin and Stacey.

Corden, who co-writes the show with Ruth Jones – both also star in the BBC show – told Virgin Radio the script had been finished “a while back” but had to be cut down to size. He said:

“Rewriting is really difficult. Writing is really fun, because you can just go ‘anything can happen.’ But when you rewrite stuff, you’re dealing with a lot of logistics and ‘well, look we might not be able to shoot that, or this needs to be in this location, is there any way this can change?’ And frankly, it’s too long. So really what we have been doing the last few weeks really is just trying to make it as economical as possible. And we finished it yesterday.”

It’s been confirmed. Deadline’s scoop from earlier this year that another Gavin & Stacey Christmas special was in the works has been rubberstamped and it will be the smash comedy’s final ever.

Posting on Instagram in the past few minutes, co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones wrote: “Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”

Deadline had revealed that the episode was in the works several weeks back, although multiple members of the cast quickly sought to downplay our story. Baby Cow, Corden’s Fulwell 73 and Ruth Jones’ Tidy Productions are behind the special.

An update! I’ve now been in contact with the BBC, and have happier news to report. Unlike some of the big commercial podcast companies, the corporation does indeed have a scheme running that’s actively looking for new podcast voices. This is all part of BBC Audio Labs, for which new applications open shortly, and successful applicants don’t just get to make their shows, but get marketing, social and PR support.
