Fred Ottman

Trivia

Fred Ottman

Edit
  • While making his WCW live debut as The Shockmaster (complete with a silver glittered Star Wars stormtrooper helmet), he was supposed to burst through the wall onto the set of Ric Flair's "A Flair For The Gold" show to help Sting confront the "Bad Guys" (Sid Vicious, Booker T and Stevie Ray). Instead, he fell literally head-over-heels through the wall and his helmet fell off revealing his identity. Even Jesse Ventura (who was commentating) couldn't help but crack up laughing. Needless to say, his character was repackaged as an Electric Company worker and he was jobbed out months later.
  • The Shockmaster incident is considered one of the funniest blunders in wrestling, and has been detailed on websites including x-entertainment and wrestlecrap.com. While most wrestlers would have distanced themselves from it, Ottman has actually joked about the incident many times and still posts pictures of the Shockmaster on his Facebook page.
  • Debuted in the WWF as "Tugboat", and siding with Hulk Hogan in his feud with Dino Bravo & Earthquake.
  • Professional wrestler.
  • Former WWF Tag Team Champion.
  • Ranked #490 in the "PWI 500" of the PWI Years (1979-1999).
  • Ottman later adopted a more serious gimmick, Typhoon and formed a team with Earthquake, known as the Natural Disasters. They won the WWF tag team titles from Money Inc.
  • Brother-in-law of wrestlers Jerry Sags and Dusty Rhodes (1945-2015).
  • WWE Hall of Famer.
