While Dwayne Johnson made his big screen premiere in Brendan Fraser's The Mummy Returns, he had a surprisingly limited amount of screentime considering he was the villain, and he was The Rock. As Mathayus of Akkad, he was also subjected to one of the most awkward bits of early CGI in film history. Nonetheless, audiences smelled what he was cooking and took to the actor's cinematic charisma, developed after years of wrestling, and he was very quickly thrust into leading man status the next year.
The Scorpion King top-billed a 30-year-old Dwayne Johnson as the titular character, whose story was explored in The Mummy Returns but is widely expanded upon in this prequel. This was long before Johnson's Hollywood status as the highest-paid actor from 2019 to 2021, and before other wrestlers and fighters turned Hollywood behemoths, like John Cena and Dave Bautista, further normalized the heavily muscled trend. Sylvester Stallone has made a name for himself as one of the greatest action movie stars of all time, but plenty of highly underrated entries in his filmography need more attention. While Stallone will always be known for characters like Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, hes far from the kind of one-dimensional performer hes sometimes made out to be. Throughout his career, Stallone surprised viewers with incredible performances in heartfelt dramas, screwball comedies, and intense neo-noir thrillers.
Many of the best Sylvester Stallone movies have become touchstones in modern popular culture, while other fantastic films have been doomed to obscurity. While some maligned movies, such as comedies like Oscar, have failed to gain the reappraisal they so rightfully deserve, other underrated entries have been recognized by cinephiles yet remain woefully unknown by mainstream audiences. Across his vast and varied catalog, there were plenty of underrated Stallone movies that viewers should give a second chance.

A while back, a terrific book about the golden age of action stars called “The Last Action Heroes” came out (buy it here). Written by Nick De Semlyen, the book takes a very affectionate look at all of the icons we grew up with in the 80s and 90s, with one notable exception. Steven Seagal does not come off well in the book – at all. One of the wildest stories from the book recounts a time when Seagal grew outraged over the fact that a meeting room he wanted was being occupied by the legendary Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.
The two actors, who would have been in their late sixties then, were participating in a read-through for their hit comedy Grumpy Old Men. According to the book, the vibe in the room was light, with the two old pros cracking up their director, Daniel Petrie and assembled guests. One of them was William Osborne,...

Schwarzenegger tricked Stallone into a major flop, amusing fans and continuing their lifelong friendly rivalry. Both actors transitioned from tough-guy roles to comedy, with mixed results but unbeatable friendship. Inseparable 70s and 80s icons, Stallone and Schwarzenegger's late careers continue to thrive in TV and movies.
Sylvester Stallone was tricked into taking the lead role in one of his biggest flops by Arnold Schwarzenegger. In a lengthy joint interview with TMZ, the pair discussed their respective careers, including the story of how Schwarzenegger forced his unsuspecting friend into starring in the comedy Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. As long-standing friends, the joke is one that they can both laugh about now – which is more than people did at the movie.
Both Stallone and Schwarzenegger are known for their tough-guy roles in movies such as Commando, Rambo, The Terminator, and The Expendables. However, both veteran actors have tried their hands at comedy,...

Dwayne Johnson's upcoming The Scorpion King Reboot is making progress with the first draft of the script now complete. A modern reimagining of the 2002 movie starring The Rock in his first lead role, the new movie was first announced by Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions partner Hiram Garcia last year. Johnson will serve as a producer on the reboot alongside Garcia and Dany Garcia.
Not a lot of new information has been revealed since about the new take on The Scorpion King, but Hiram Garcia shed some light on its current status. In an interview with Collider, Garcia explains that the first draft of the screenplay has been turned in, and now they're giving it some polishing. The producer also expresses his excitement about returning to the franchise to tell new stories. From the interview:
"We just got a first draft in and we're having a polish done on it now.

One of the most inventive comedies of all time is director Ivan Reitman's 1988 buddy adventure Twins starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as - you guessed it - twins separated at birth. The movie is one of the great examples of a killer high-concept idea, and a sequel seemed like a given. But it never happened. That said, is there still a chance another film may come to fruition? Well, while out and about promoting Tim Burton's recent live-action remake of the Disney classic Dumbo co-star Danny DeVito talked a bit about the rumors circling a possible sequel Triplets co-starring Eddie Murphy.
Danny DeVito says this.
"Everybody would be up for it. The main thing is you have to have a screenplay. We're looking. We're figuring it out."
So what could the film be? There have been rumors flying back and forth for years now that a potential...

The amount of women making films is fairly small, but there are three that have that left their stamp on cinema, specifically, in the realm of horror/science fiction/fantasy. Mary Lambert directed the best horror film of 1989 with Pet Sematary, and Jennifer Lynch helmed the weird thrillogy that is Surveillance, Hisss and Boxing Helena. Then there is Rachel Talalay, who will forever be remembered for Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, and to a lesser extent - Tank Girl. But what about her cyber thriller from 1993 that never gets any love? Well, with my latest chapter of Late Night Classics, I was given the chance to interview Rachel about her favorite flick of mine.
