In addition to being a writer for television, Harvey Orkin was a theatrical agent, first at William Morris and Frank Cooper and finally at Creative Management Associates (which later became ICM.) His clients included Richard Burton and Peter Sellers. While serving as the London liaison for CMA, he appeared on the BBC television program, Not So Much a Programme, More a Way of Life (1964). This was taken off the air when Kenneth Tynan used the F word but returned three weeks later with a new name, BBC Three.

Orkin was also the author of a novel, Scuffler. The movie, Un fils pour l'été (1980), with Jack Lemmon, is based loosely on his life and more particularly, his death.
