Still going strong since the 1990s, the Yu Yu Hakusho franchise remains incredibly popular in terms of merchandise. Now, the latest pop-up corner event for the brand will feature all-new images that give a more "traditional" look at the characters.
Now taking place in Japan, a new event at the Ikebukuro eeo Store features several Yu Yu Hakusho products in eight different categories. Depicting the characters in both classical and seasonal aesthetics, the store and its online venue are the only places to get these official products, although fans worldwide are enjoying a look at the new artwork. Science fiction manga isn't as common as fantasy-based manga, and this can be seen in popular shonen works alone. Most of these verge closer to the fantasy genre, though sci-fi lends itself a bit better to darker stories. This is especially the case with some of the best examples of the genre.
Some of the darkest sci-fi manga are harsh, takes on the mecha genre, while others do the same for space travel and space operas. Many of them are grounded with all too human protagonists, all while using science fiction concepts to showcase the depravity of mankind. Body horror is also quite present in these works, proving that losing autonomy is the darkest idea of all.

The space-based series Planetes takes place in a future where satellites and debris are a constant threat to planet Earth, requiring different means of disposal.

When it comes to the anime medium, no genre is more popular than shonen. Initially targeted toward the male teenage demographic, shonen anime has become an international phenomenon that now appears on millions of TV screens around the world, due in large part to its ability to consistently spawn hit series like Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, and Demon Slayer.
Although there is plenty of variety in the shonen genre, one thing that is part of almost every single major shonen franchise is high-stakes action, and as a result, the medium's most popular characters often undergo substantial power-ups. These power-ups have spawned some of the most iconic moments, scenes and narrative developments in anime history, cementing their status as one of the most important tropes in shonen media.
