Hulu has officially ordered a new crime drama series based on the 1987 film, Black Widow, with Shameless actress Emmy Rossum in talks to star in the show.
Per Deadline, Rossum is set to executive produce the untitled project alongside New Girl creator Liz Meriwether and is in talks to star in the series as well. The official logline for the untitled series reads: "An FBI agent uses the secrets from a female serial killer’s past to try and find her.” Rossum will reportedly portray the FBI agent if an agreement is reached to star in the series. In addition to serving as executive producer, Meriweather will also serve as writer on the series.

Networks are handing out cancelations like hot cakes. NBC and CBS have pulled the plug on several of different shows over the last year. Something we've noticed is that a lot of these shows are actually spinoffs of shows that are still on the air.
The Rookie: Feds is no more, but The Rookie is fine. 9-1-1: Lone Star was cut off at the knees, even though 9-1-1 is thriving and crossing over with Doctor Odyssey. FBI is the latest and biggest example as two spinoffs, Most Wanted and International have been canceled by CBS.
There's an interesting tension that arises when these cancelations occur. Those involved with the flagship shows lament their spinoff's demise, and suggest that characters could be brought over from the spinoff and incorporated into their show, at least for a couple of episodes. It adds up on paper, and makes the sense...

CBS has been on a rampage over the last few weeks. The network has canceled several popular shows, including some that have been on for nearly a decade. Fans have been taken aback by the swiftness of CBS' decisions, especially coming off the heels of the controversial Blue Bloods cancelation.
The network has scrapped Swat (for the third time), as well as the FBI spinoffs FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. The latter two has been particularly surprising, given that the flagship show is still in business and has already been renewed for additional seasons. Fans have naturally inquired about the reason behind these sudden cancelations, and they actually differ depending on the show.
CBS allegedly shifted its FBI priorities "Rampage" - With Covid devastating the country, two gunmen take out their desperation and rage on the elite class they perceive to be oppressing them as the team attempts to track and stop them.

The 1980s werewolf movie Silver Bullet was panned as a complete howler by many critics on its release, but fans of the cult classic werewolf movie starring Gary Busey and Corey Haim from the mind of Stephen King can now stream the movie for free. The horror film from 1985 is now part of Tubi's extensive library of scary movies, although the scares in this one are admittedly few and far between. However, that doesn't mean Silver Buller isn't worth a rewatch.
Other horror titles arriving on Tubi include four Insidious movies, both Grindhouse movies by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, the zombie feature starring Brad Pitt, World War Z, and the "alligators act like sharks" movie, Crawl, among others. However, if you're in for a Stephen King marathon, Tubi also offers adaptations like Children of the Corn, two Carrie movies, the author's directorial effort Maximum Overdrive, and Creepshow 2.

Perfection is hard to come by, as the very word would suggest. Yet, precisely because of how difficult it can be to achieve, we often look for the perfect when it comes to popular culture. The world of film these days is partially dominated by how successful a film can truly be based on its score on websites like Metacritic or the ever-present Rotten Tomatoes. This is not a new trend, either; as far back as when "Toy Story 3" arrived in theaters in the summer of 2010, people have paid an extreme amount of attention to whether or not certain beloved films can attain a 100% score on the aggregation site. The dark flip side is when people get angry at critics for daring to go against the grain, even if it seems impossible to believe that someone may not enjoy the latest exploits of a series of anthropomorphized toys. The Walking Dead original series ran between 2010 and 2022, and many characters became so beloved that they earned their own spinoff series. With more shows to come, a recent spinoff is a major hit on Netflix.
After the conclusion of the original The Walking Dead series, fans got a chance to see one of the most anticipated reunions: Rick and Michonne. In 2024, the two beloved characters got their own spin-off showing the aftermath of Rick's alleged death in The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. After its recent release on Netflix, the series is already a hit on the streaming service, as FlixPatrol reports The Ones Who Live is in the second spot in the top 10.

Since making his debut in Resident Alien season 1, episode 9, "Welcome Aliens," Terry O'Quinn's Peter "The Alien Tracker" Bach has become a huge part of the irreverent dramedy's story. Quinn is not only one of Resident Alien's greatest sci-fi guest stars, but his arc is also one of the darkest and most fascinating in the entire show. His shocking return at the end of Resident Alien season 3, while perhaps half-expected by the audience, came as a massive surprise to certain residents of Patience, Colorado. With Resident Alien season 4's confirmation, his legend was able to be continued.
Quinn has dipped in and out of the Resident Alien cast since he first entered the fray. However, the more Peter Bach features in the show, the more is learned about his devastating origin story and what drives him to track down extraterrestrials on Earth. Interestingly, the show's approach to fleshing out...

Resident Alien is known for putting many of its characters through a huge amount of turmoil, but the show's upcoming season is gearing up to really pile on for one resident of Patience, Colorado. The Resident Alien cast is filled with character pairings with great chemistry that leads to some very funny moments, but the sci-fi dramedy doesn't neglect its more macabre themes either. Although Resident Alien season 3's ending featured several cliffhangers, it's pretty easy to tell where the next run of episodes will take certain characters, and one arc is very dark.
Resident Alien season 4's confirmation came as a huge relief to fans of the show, as it looked for a while as if Syfy's decision to drop the project meant the story would remain incomplete. Thankfully, after a jump to USA Network, Alan Tudyk's Harry Vanderspeigle and company are coming back for at least one more run of episodes.

The Western genre has been defined by a long list of iconic movies, from Howard Hawks' Rio Bravo to Sergio Leone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. One of the most enduring and popular movies of the genre, Tombstone, assembled one of the best '90s casts for a great project, one made memorable by its quotable script. Bringing action and revenge to the Old West like few movies before, it's practically synonymous with blockbuster Westerns.
Tombstone tells the story of the Earp brothers, a group of lawmen who take on the roles of US Marshals in Tombstone, Arizona. There, they cross paths with the violent Cochise County Cowboys, whose tactics of fear and intimidation make them almost untouchable. While the movie has an iconic and recognizable line-up of leading actors, from Kurt Russell to Sam Elliott, other stars haven't been as closely associated with the movie in the years since.

Lost became an instant hit when the series debuted on ABC in 2004. Over two decades later, one of the show's writers, Drew Goddard, addressed the possibility of revisiting the franchise.
Speaking to Variety, Goddard said that while there have been no official discussions about a revival, he will never rule out the possibility. "I loved working on that show so much, and I loved what we did," he explained. "I always feel strongly that I don't want to just do karaoke of the show I used to do. I'd only be interested if we felt like we could do something special and new within the construct of the show. And then some of it just comes down to time and appetite. So there's no plan for it today. But never say never."

Because "Star Trek" takes place in a universe driven by pacifism, exploration, and diplomacy, it may be difficult to gauge which starships are the most "powerful." In superhero comics, action movies, and "Star Wars", the phrase "most powerful" often alludes to one's ability to do damage, to dominate, to overpower a foe. Starships on "Star Trek," however, aren't damage-inflicting machines. They may be equipped with phasers, photon torpedoes, and other hyper-advanced weapons systems, but a starship is rarely measured by its ability to do damage.
I suppose, if the U.S.S. Enterprise really wanted to, it could handily wipe out entire cities on its own, unleashing a fusillade of explosive energy beams from space. Several Federation starships, working together, could likely make an entire planet extinct within a matter of minutes. For Trekkies, though, it's more important to measure a ship's power by the power of its sensors, the power of its engines,...

Warning: this article contains spoilers for the "Star Trek: Lower Decks" series finale.
In the final episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," titled "The New Next Generation," the U.S.S. Cerritos is tasked with sealing up a massive rift in the space-time continuum. Although the ship is dated and under-equipped, they're the only Federation vessel in range, and if the rift isn't dealt with post-haste, it could rend the very fabric of space-time asunder. It's all very serious, so the Cerritos bravely charges to the rescue.
As the Cerritos crew approaches the rift, however, they have to sail through waves of twisted semi-interdimensional space. Each wave is a potential cataclysm, as they change the Cerritos into various parallel universe versions of itself. The crew remains largely intact, protected by special shielding, but the ship itself changes its class and size several times within the span of a few minutes.

The same could be said about Tombstone, which has long been considered to be one of the greatest and genre-defining Western films ever made. In Star Trek, both Section 31 and Starfleet Intelligence are intelligence agencies linked to Starfleet, but they have different histories within the Star Trek timeline, and serve different narrative purposes. Before the formation of Star Trek's United Federation of Planets, Starfleet existed as an Earth-based paramilitary organization with the primary function of exploration. As humans became major players in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, Starfleet's secondary mission of preserving peace became much more relevant, especially after Star Trek: Enterprise's Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) made contact with hostile species like the Klingons and Xindi.
In Star Trek, Starfleet and the Federation aren't the same thing. The Federation is the governing body that unites allied member worlds, and Starfleet is technically Earth's exploratory and peacekeeping organization, which expanded its reach to serve the entire Federation. To protect the Federation's members and borders, Starfleet must gather information about enemies of the Federation.

Terry O'Quinn's Admiral Erik Pressman appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation's final season as a member of Starfleet Intelligence who had been a major player in a treaty-breaking Starfleet conspiracy. Throughout Tng's seven-season run, the evil admiral became a Star Trek trope. Because of Gene Roddenberry's rule that there could be no conflict among the main crew members of the USS Enterprise-d, admirals and other Starfleet officials were often brought in to create discord. Tng also had some pretty impressive guest stars over the years, including Lost's Terry O'Quinn.

Of all the castaways on the Lost island, Evangeline Lilly's Kate Austen is one of the most crucial characters among the 40-odd survivors. However, the young actor wanted to quit the series almost immediately, but she changed her mind because of who her character was. The Getting Lost documentary reveals, in her own words, just how this all went down.
The casting process for the pilot was unorthodox since it was underway while the script was being written. This allowed casting directors to look for compelling actors and for series co-creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof to create characters for them. This was not the case for Kate, who was always a part of the plan. In 2004, Lost debuted on broadcast television, kicking off what would become one of the most popular TV shows ever made. After two decades, the ABC show is having a resurgence thanks to its availability on streaming.
For the week of Oct. 21 through Oct. 27, Lost has ranked at No. 2 on the overall Top 10 chart for Nielsen's U.S. rankings. It was behind only Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer, which recently returned for a third season. Lost pulled in 1.03 billion minutes viewed across Hulu and Netflix, finding new audiences 20 years past its original premiere on ABC. The Lincoln Lawyer was quite a bit further ahead with 2.20 billion minutes viewed, though Lost still had a comfortable lead over the No. 3 position, which was held by Bob's Burgers with 895 million minutes viewed on Hulu.

Alan Tudyk largely gets to play Harry Vanderspeigle in his human form in Resident Alien, but there's an interesting explanation as to why a very select few can see through his disguise. Most of the Resident Alien cast look at Harry and see a human face, but some get an unfettered view of his alien visage. The latter is not a common occurrence, and it all comes down to a specific piece of worldbuilding by the sci-fi dramedy.
After beginning in 2021, Resident Alien quickly became one of Alan Tudyk's best TV shows. However, Harry Vanderspeigle is a far cry from Tudyk's Disney characters. Resident Alien's main character is a foul-mouthed extraterrestrial who isn't afraid to turn violent when it's required of him. While he eventually developed into a more traditional protagonist, there's still a lot that's unique about Harry - including how he's perceived by those around him.

If just its box office numbers had been considered, then The Stepfather would have remained a standalone movie. However, the 1987 cult flick ultimately found an audience after tanking in theaters; it went on to become a major success on both video and television. So the production company behind the original movie, Itc, went ahead with putting cinema’s deadliest daddy back on the big screen. The pressing question at the time though, was whether or not Terry O’Quinn would return. And if he did, how would his character even come back?
John Auerbach, whose sole screenwriting credit is Stepfather II, was put in charge of bringing the fatal father figure back from the dead. Like anyone else in his position, Auerbach assumed he would be penning a prequel, on account of the fact that O’Quinn’s character was killed at the end of the first movie. On the contrary,...

Upon its premiere, ABC's phenomenon, Lost, immediately had the world's attention. Created by J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, the supernatural mystery series weaves emotional and character-driven storytelling with confounding mysteries. Decades after the fact, Lost still holds up in remarkable ways. However, not every element of the landmark series was perfect.
One of the large failures of the series is the character arc of Charlie Pace. Portrayed by Lord of the Rings star Dominic Monaghan, Charlie was a washed-up rock star in the vein of Oasis. After crash-landing on the island with the rest of the survivors, Charlie must overcome his heroin addiction. Ultimately, he sacrifices himself in a heroic move at the end of Season 3, but the arc along the way makes many missteps when it comes to his character.

Warning: spoilers ahead for Daryl Dixon season 2, episode 5.
The franchise isn't known for keeping characters around very long, but The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has achieved the impressive feat of burning through three separate villains in season 2 alone. Most seasons of The Walking Dead's main series would clock in around the 16-episode mark, but since season 12 plans were replaced by a string of The Walking Dead spinoff shows, the standard has been six episodes per season for Daryl Dixon, Dead City, and The Ones Who Live.
Naturally, the truncated length of each season has limited each spinoff's ability to refresh its villains as regularly as The Walking Dead used to. The main villain throughout Daryl Dixon season 1 was Genet, Dead City season 1 had the Croat, and the big bad of The Ones Who Live was Terry O'Quinn's Major General Beale. If the 1985 horror film Silver Bullet, which is based on the 1983 Stephen King novella Cycle of the Werewolf, was made for the primary purpose of scaring audiences, then it's a dismal failure. However, if viewed as a comedy in the guise of a horror film, Silver Bullet contains more laughs than most successful straight comedy films of its era. Maybe Silver Bullet was intended to be a parody of the classic King plot formula, in which a small town is terrorized by unspeakable horror. The movie is set in 1976 in the fictional town of Tarkers Mills, Maine, where, in the films opening scenes, several townspeople are brutally murdered by a killer with razor claws and teeth, under the spell of a full moon.
While most of the suspense in Silver Bullet ostensibly revolves around the question of who among the remaining townspeople is the killer, or the werewolf, anyone whos...

The 2000s is a great era for TV shows, and there are several titles from the era that are ready to be revived. Some of the best TV shows of all time are from the 00s, ranging from hard-hitting to dramas to hilarious sitcoms and beyond. Unfortunately, many are the victims of being cut too short. Others, however, are still extremely popular nowadays and still receive demands from audiences to return to the screen.
Multiple shows are essential to understanding the 2000s, and these TV series encapsulate the time beautifully. However, this doesnt mean that these shows wouldnt work now, and many of them have a timeless appeal to generations of viewers. Some of the most nostalgic 2000s TV shows are still widely watched today, but some deserve a revival more than others.

Although Resident Alien season 4's villain will surely be a tough challenge for the characters to face, the new antagonist needs to be carefully handled by the writers to maintain a steady pace in the coming run of episodes. The newest addition to the Resident Alien cast poses a new kind of threat compared to past villains in the sci-fi dramedy, but the show can only do certain things with him until the time is right. There is one showdown in particular that needs to be delayed until one of the latest moments in Resident Alien season 4.
Debuting at the end of Resident Alien season 3, the Mantid is a shapeshifting insectoid who left Alan Tudyk's Harry Vanderspeigle trapped on the Grey Aliens' Star Wars-inspired moon ship. Voiced in his natural form by Clancy Brown, the Mantid's ability to physically transform means he has already been portrayed by Tudyk as well.

A question that hasn’t really been talked about much in the entertainment world is the whole spin-offs, remakes, and reboots thing. How smart is it to consider bringing back something that was super successful? Lost was a big deal back in the day, and it really kicked off this conversation in the 2000s when the show wrapped up after six seasons.

Many believe "We Have To Go Back" was the show's pivotal twist but, in reality, it's the "Not Penny's Boat" moment that changed Lost forever, causing the death of Charlie and spinning the narrative on its head. When Lost first aired in 2004, it was a show with a relatively grounded premise about a group of survivors lost on an island after a plane crash. The remaining passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 not only endured the wilderness of the island but many inexplicable occurrences everything from smoke monsters to polar bears and mysterious underground vaults.
Lost had many twists and turns, but the "Not Penny's Boat" reveal in the Lost season 3 final was a true game-changer. When it seemed that a rescue boat might be close to the island, Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) set out to find a way to get a message to it. Charlie was a central character on Lost, a...

Folks who write about television are often guilty — and this writer is certainly one of them — of talking about TV music as a character in its own right. It’s usually because the music is helping create key dramatic moments or providing a sense of the show’s tone and environment in a way that goes beyond imagery. But it’s another thing when TV writers themselves recognize the music of their series as a character and actually put into the script, “Insert music here to make this happen.”
According to composer Michael Giacchino, that is exactly what happened on “Lost,” which somehow hit the 20th anniversary of its pilot episode on September 22 — although he didn’t realize it until he was shown scripts much later. A constant for Giacchino, on “Lost” and off, has been to have his music truly be a reaction to what he sees the first time he watches.

Lost star Michael Emerson explains the reactions to his casting as Ben Linus on the hit fantasy thriller.
Speaking to TheWrap, Emerson was asked if he had any experiences with fans unloading their personal theories about Lost during his time on the series. "People had their theories, yeah, and they also had their gut reactions and opinions about characters," Emerson responded. "When I first appeared, people would come up and say, 'I'm not watching that show anymore. You've ruined it. It's not the show I want.' And I thought, 'Well, what did you want? Did you think it was Survivor, like, this is a romance about good-looking castaways? No, there's a parable here. There's an allegory. It's good and evil here. We're in an esoteric space. Lost star Michael Emerson looks back on his character's darkest moment from his entire nine-year run on the series.
Speaking to TheWrap, Emerson discussed the moment in Lost in which his character, Ben Linus, watches the brutal murder of his adoptive daughter Alex, as portrayed by Tania Raymonde. Responding to whether that might be the darkest moment for Ben in the series, Emerson said, "Yeah, it was terrible, a big, big turning point, certainly, and a terrific narrative surprise. Fantastic play on the part of the writers to turn the sympathy system of the show on its head and to be willing to sacrifice a loved character in that way, to make them a martyr, sort of. Yeah, that was heavy."

Lost star Michael Emerson discusses the possibility of a follow-up series nearly fifteen years after the original ended.
Speaking to TheWrap, Emerson was asked if he could delve into the ending his character, Ben Linus, received during the series finale of Lost back in 2010. "If we take as a premise that the other characters passed hand in hand, two by two into a happy afterlife, then Benjamin Linus doesn't get to do that," Emerson said. "He hasn't passed, graduated, been redeemed. He hasn't earned it. So he has to keep living multiple lives or something.I think that the people who found, we can call it a true love, or people who found a mirror redeemer, were eligible for paradise. But Benjamin Linus did not have those things. He's capable of it perhaps. So that's when you need another whole series to see how he earns his wings, a spinoff.

“Lost” premiered on ABC on Sept. 22, 2004, but one of its key players didn’t appear until Season 2: Villain-you-love-to-hate Benjamin Linus, played with spooky intensity by Michael Emerson.
Among the biggest questions on the show, along with what was the black smoke and what was in the hatch, was whether the castaways of Flight 815 could trust a stranger they found in the jungle who claimed to be a stranded balloonist named Henry Gale. Spoiler: No. His real name was Benjamin Linus and they could never trust that slippery weasel.

It’s been almost 20 years to the day since “Lost” premiered on ABC (September 22), which means the drama series created by J.J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof, and Jeffrey Lieber is once again making TV headlines for its major anniversary. To celebrate two decades of a show that undeniably changed the television landscape, TV critics Emily St. James and Noel Murray penned “Lost: Back to the Island,” a series of essays taking readers through the series one episode at-a-time from pilot to finale.
With over 100 essays and 40 that are intentionally longer to add further context to key moments in the series, Murray and St. James mirror the journey of viewers watching “Lost” for the first time. This is not a show whose ending perfectly mirrored the beginning, but it was also not borne of a time when shows like that were the norm. Although Alan Tudyk's primary role in Resident Alien is as the show's main character, the actor also has two other personas within the story. An essential and versatile member of the Resident Alien cast, Tudyk has led the sci-fi dramedy since it began back in 2021. His face has become so wrapped up in the narrative that it would be impractical and a little silly to continue the show without him. While the project is an adaptation of a comic book series by Peter Hogan, the live-action branch of the Resident Alien franchise is built around Tudyk's irreverent acting style.
Two of Tudyk's characters have been ubiquitous since the show's inception. However, his third role only manifests at the end of Resident Alien season 3. When digging a little deeper into the lore of the fictitious world, it could even be argued that three is an inaccurate figure when it comes...
