Radiohead Signals 2025 Plans with New Business Filing
Image
Radiohead are up to something new, but we don’t know what yet.

On March 10th, the beloved English band’s five members — Colin Greenwood, Jonny Greenwood, Ed O’Brien, Philip Selway, and Thom Yorke — all became partners of a new limited liability partnership (Llp) dubbed, “RHEUK25 Llp,” a move mirroring LLPs the band has made to support various endeavors in the past.

In 2021, Radiohead employed the Llp, “Spin With a Grin”, to help release the Kid A and Amnesiac reissue, Kid A Mnseia. Prior to that, they used LLPs to drop their 2016 album A Moon Shaped Pool, their 2011 album The King of Limbs, 2007’s In Rainbows, and more, including other undertakings, like tours.

So, even if we don’t know what it is, it’s safe to assume that Radiohead is up to something, which is pretty exciting considering the mixed signals the band’s members have given in the past regarding any future activity.

Damon Albarn, Annie Lennox, Kate Bush Release Silent Album to Protest Proposed U.K. AI Law
Image
Kate Bush, Damon Albarn, Annie Lennox, Cat Stevens, The Clash and Hans Zimmer are among 1,000 artists featured on a new collaborative album surprise released on Tuesday, but you won’t hear any of their music.

Instead, their new record is merely 47 minutes and 17 seconds of relative silence and white noise, a melancholy display of the sound of music if there’s no artists to actually create it. The album, called Is This What We Want?, is a protest record aimed at the UK government, which is considering changes to the...

1,000 Artists Release Silent AI Protest Album Is This What We Want?
Image
More than 1,000 artists — including Damon Albarn, Kate Bush, and Annie Lennox — have released a silent album in protest of the UK government’s proposed changes to copyright law, allowing AI companies to train their models using copyrighted work without a license.

Titled Is This What We Want? the project contains recordings of empty studios and performance spaces, which represent the “impact we expect the government’s proposals would have on musicians’ livelihoods.” It consists of 12 tracks, which spell out a message that reads, “The British government must not legalise music theft to benefit AI companies.”

Other artists credited on the album include Ed O’Brien of Radiohead, The Clash, Tori Amos, Hans Zimmer, Pet Shop Boys, Jamiroquai, and Yusuf / Cat Stevens. All proceeds are being donated to the UK charity Help Musicians.

“The government’s proposal would hand the life’s work of the country’s musicians to AI companies, for free,...

Thom Yorke Says He Doesn’t “Really Give a Flying F*ck” If You Want Radiohead to Reconvene
Image
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke is really loving his current job in The Smile, a side project composed of Yorke, Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner. So much so, that when asked by Australian outlet Double J whether he’s paying attention to fans clamoring about Radiohead’s future, Yorke replied, “I am not aware of it and don’t really give a flying fuck.”

The Smile returned this month with Cutouts, the trio’s second album of 2024 and their third in three years. The band has been rather prolific in terms of their output, leading many Radiohead fans to believe that the beloved group would be put on indefinite hiatus so that Yorke and Greenwood could continue focusing on The Smile. This idea was cemented when Greenwood recently revealed that Radiohead had “no plans” for 2025, citing “lots of individual projects going on at the moment.

Radiohead Reconvened for Rehearsals Two Months Ago, Says Colin Greenwood
Colin Greenwood
It’s been six years since Radiohead last performed a concert together, and with the band’s members busy with a variety of different side projects, a reunion doesn’t appear in the cards anytime soon. However, during a Q&a at the Hay Festival Querétaro on Sunday, bassist Colin Greenwood revealed that the members of Radiohead recently got together to play music.

“We did some rehearsals about two months ago in London, just to play the old songs,” Greenwood explained. “And it was really fun, had a really good time.”

Greenwood cautioned that the band has no formal plans on the books. “We’re still talking all the time, we just need to make a plan and get some time together sorted out in advance,” the musician continued.

For now, Greenwood will spend the next several months touring as member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, filling in for bassist Martyn Casey.

Ed O’Brien Told Trey Anastasio that Phish Concerts Have Better Audiences than Radiohead
Image
When it comes to cultural clout, Radiohead might have a leg-up on Phish, but according to the band’s guitarist Ed O’Brien, that might not always be the best thing. According to a new interview with Trey Anastasio, O’Brien once told him that Phish’s audiences are more engaged during concerts than Radiohead’s.

The comments came in Anastasio’s new interview with Rolling Stone. “Ed O’Brien from Radiohead came to one of our shows, and gave me one of the greatest compliments in between sets,” Anastasio began. “He watched the show from the audience, and then he came backstage and he said, ‘I spent a lot of the night facing backwards. I was watching the last row of the arena, in the way back, all the way at the top. Every single person in the room was completely involved in the concert.’”

Radiohead Bassist Colin Greenwood Announces Photo Book ‘How to Disappear’
Image
Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood will reflect on the band’s history with How To Disappear – A Portrait of Radiohead, out Oct. 15.

The announcement arrives two months after Greenwood joined Instagram, where his first few posts featured his dogs and a pencil sharpener. In the announcement of How to Disappear, Greenwood included a portrait of Thom Yorke in his “Lotus Flower” hat — which the frontman auctioned off for charity in 2020 — as well as photos of his brother and bandmate Jonny Greenwood, drummer Phil Selway, and guitarist Ed O’Brien.

Robyn, Fever Ray, and First Aid Kit Call for Israel to Be Banned from Eurovision 2024
Image
Robyn, Fever Ray, and First Aid Kit are among more than 1,000 Swedish artists who have called for Israel to be banned from the Eurovision 2024 song contest.

The musicians signed an open letter calling for Israel’s ban from the 2024 competition, which is currently scheduled to host its finale in Malmö, Sweden on May 11th. In addition to Robyn, First Aid Kit, and Fever Ray, other signatures came from fellow Swedish artists, dancers, producers, and songwriters, including Axel Boman, Refused, Viagra Boys, DJ Seinfeld, and Kite.

Addressing the European Broadcast Union (Ebu), the letter outlines the collective artists’ frustration with the decision to let Israel compete in light of the ongoing war in Gaza. “The fact that countries that place themselves above humanitarian law are welcomed to participate in international cultural events trivializes violations of international law and makes the suffering of the victims invisible,” the letter reads.

“Allowing Israel’s...

Image
Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien has given fans an update on his next solo album in a message that also calls for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas.

In an Instagram post, O’Brien thanked his “little community” of fans and explained that he had needed a break. “I’m deep into my next record, and deep in the process,” he wrote. “I will share some more soon … from music to influences to gear .. all of it… it’s been and continues to be a journey..Sending love and warmth from me and Ziggy.”

Earlier in the message, O’Brien apologized for not commenting on the heightened Gaza conflict earlier. “Like so many of you I have found the events of October 7 and what has followed too awful for words .. anything that I have tried to write feels so utterly inadequate,” he said. “Ceasefire now. Every Radiohead Album Ranked Worst-Best
Image
Radiohead's album "Kid A" broke conventions and created something wholly unique, frustrating audiences at first but ultimately influencing the future of music. "Ok Computer" is considered one of the best albums of all time, showcasing Radiohead's ethereal textures and political lyrics. "The Bends" proved that there was more to explore in alternative rock and features some of Thom Yorke's best vocal work.

Radiohead is an English rock band formed in 1985 who are credited with some of the most experimental and significant alternative rock developments of all time, and ranking their best albums can be as difficult as splitting a hair nine different ways. Radiohead released their debut album Pablo Honey in 1993 in the middle of the alternative rock boom and the emergence of grunge. However, they quickly found their own sound and their experimental, singular, often politically and philosophically charged music proved they were capable of sounds and...

People believe they'll have a bright future despite negative possibilities
Ed O'Brien
Washington, Apr 6: People believe they'll be happy in the future, even when they imagine the many bad things that could happen, because they discount the possibility that those bad things will actually occur, a new study suggests.

"I've always been fascinated by the changeability of people's perceptions of happiness," psychological scientist Ed O'Brien of the University of Michigan said.

"On some days our futures seem bright and exciting, but on other days the same exact future event can feel stressful and terrifying," he said.

With this new research, O'Brien wanted to explore whether fluency - how easy or difficult it feels to think about different events - might play a role in how people think about well-being.

Middle-aged likelier to feel your pain
Ed O'Brien
Washington, Jan ary 31: Women in their 50s are more empathic than men of the same age and than younger or older people, according to a new study of more than 75,000 adults.

"Overall, late middle-aged adults were higher in both of the aspects of empathy that we measured," says Sara Konrath.

"They reported that they were more likely to react emotionally to the experiences of others, and they were also more likely to try to understand how things looked from the perspective of others."

For the study, researchers Ed O'Brien, Konrath and Linda Hagen at the University of Michigan and Daniel Gruhn at North Carolina State University analyzed data on empathy from three separate large samples of American adults, two of which.

Radiohead Drops Fan-Made Concert Film on YouTube
In 2004, three bad brothers you know so well handed out 50 camcorders to fans at a sold out Beastie Boys concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Ad-Rock, McA, and Mike D told those fans to fight for their right for good camera angles and to keep the cameras rolling at all times. Two years later, the footage captured from the show was cut together and released as the concert film Awesome; I Fuckin’ Shot That! to mild critical acclaim. This week, a Radiohead concert film dropped on YouTube that was kind of sorta conceived in the same way. The major difference is Radiohead Roseland Ballroom NYC 2011-09-29 Full Show multi-cam Sbd audio came to be not from top-down instruction, but bottom-up organization and a fan culture reminiscent of Deadhead tape traders. Basically, a handful of fans from Ateaseweb (an online hub for Radiohead fanatics) compiled fan-shot footage...

Watch: Radiohead Time-Lapse Video
Radiohead
Finally! A time-lapse video that we can really get behind. Directed by Matt Ornstein -- and set to the tune of Radiohead's "The Daily Mail" -- this time-lapse was shot during Bonnaroo this year and features footage from the Tennessee music festival, leading up to the band's headlining live performance.

"The Daily Mail" was released as a digital download from Radiohead's King Of Limbs: Live From the Basement live video collection. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien revealed that the single had been in the works for "at least six years." However, when Radiohead decided to perform the song during their From the Basement set, the final arrangement "came together within a week."

Billboard reported that Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has hinted at a collaboration with former White Stripes frontman Jack White. On stage at Bonnaroo, Yorke dedicated a song to White, and then...

Contest: 5 DVD Copies Of Music Doc 'The Sun Came Out' Featuring Neil Finn, Members Of Radiohead, Wilco & More
What happens when you wrangle some of the finest, most critically acclaimed musicians today, fly them to New Zealand and get them to collaborate on an album and live concert? Well, you'll find out in the music documentary "The Sun Came Out," a look behind the curtain at a pretty phenomenal undertaking all done in the name of charity.

In 2001 Neil Finn, lead singer and founder of Crowded House, gathered folks like Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Johnny Marr of The Smiths, Phil Selway and Ed O'Brien from Radiohead, Sebastian Steinberg of Soul Coughing and Lisa Germano, and they staged three successful charity concerts under the moniker 7 Worlds Collide. Seven years later at Piha on the wild west coast of Auckland, Neil did it again, this time inviting Wilco and KT Tunstall to the line-up, and in addition to three concerts, they recorded a double album of new songs in just three weeks.

Grammy Predictions: Will Adele Win Big?
Bon Iver and Justin Vernon
By Nekesa Mumbi Moody and Mesfin Fekadu, The Associated Press

-- Adele is the rare star that doesn't need multiple magazine covers, a cosmetics contract or a clothing line to sell albums. She does it all based on the strength of that sumptuous voice and those stirring songs.

That's a rarity in today's pop world, where artists are overexposed and their music often comes second to what they're promoting in tandem with it.

Adele scored an unlikely critical and commercial triumph with "21," last year's best-selling album, all based off the artistry of songs like "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You." And she'll be richly rewarded come Sunday, when the Grammys hand out their trophies at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. While Kanye West is the lead nominee with seven, Adele, who's up for six, will be the act who dominates – well, at least that's what We think.

London, Jan 26: Moviegoers may have felt 'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2' was more magical than the previous parts because it was the last in the series, according to researchers.

University of Michigan researchers say people often view the 'last' moments of an event positively simply because they signal the end of an experience.

They found that even if the experience is painful or negative, but concludes on a pleasant note, people would consider the event a more positive experience.

"Endings are powerful," the Daily Mail quoted Ed O'Brien, a graduate student in the U-m Department of Psychology, as saying.

Although no date has been announced, Thom Yorke and co. will likely record their session around the time they play the Texas capital on March 7. While their set may lean heavily on tracks from the electronic-centric "Limbs," guitarist Ed O'Brien told Xfm that the band has been rehearsing four or five new songs that could be unveiled at upcoming shows. Radiohead Announces Extensive U.S. Tour Dates
Ed O'Brien
The moment you've waited three years for has finally arrived. Radiohead announced their first extensive U.S. tour since 2008's In Rainbows tour via their website Monday, with 10 dates running through March, and more to come.

The tour -- the first for their latest album, The King of Limbs -- will begin on Feb. 27 in Miami, Fl, with dates running through March 15 in Glendale, Az. It will wind from Florida to Georgia, Texas, Missouri, Colorado and Arizona. Other Lives, an indie band from Oklahoma, described as "dynamic, orchestral pop," will support the band on these dates.

Back in October, Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien told BBC 6Music that they'll be on tour for the majority of 2012: "We'll be on the road from the end of February to November and we’ll be playing in both the UK and Us, the usual ports of call."

This tour will be "different" from their last tour,...

Radiohead promise indoor venues for 2012 tour
Ed O'Brien
Radiohead have revealed that they plan to play indoor venues during their world tour next year. The band have confirmed plans to perform a string of concerts across the globe next year to promote their recent album The King of Limbs. However, guitarist Ed O'Brien has promised fans that the group aim to perform the European leg of the tour at indoor venues. Talking about initial ideas for the shows, O'Brien told BBC 6Music: "I think the important thing is that it's got to be a set in itself, it's got to work. "Last time we went out, it felt very much like In Rainbows plus the greatest hits. And it's not going to be like that this time. "I guess it's going to be predominantly from this record and the last record, and then see which songs fit around that." The musician estimated that the run of concerts will...

Listen: Radiohead's two new Record Store Day songs streaming
Ed O'Brien
We reported over the weekend that Radiohead wanted in on the Record Store Day action at the last minute. And today, we reap the benefits of the gesture. "The Butcher" and "Supercollider" can be heard in full, streaming, below. According to guitarist Ed O'Brien, both were recorded during the "King of Limbs" sessions, though the latter was finished only after the album was done. "Supercollider" is a pretty, easy-to-listen track, with Thom Yorke's yawp evened out with a dance-floor synth pounding on-beat throughout. It's a song to get spaced-out on, like seeing the same flat scenery from a fast-moving train. "The...

Radiohead Deny 'King of Limbs Part II'
British rockers Radiohead have denied rumors they are releasing a second album of material from "The King of Limbs" recording sessions, insisting they plan to "start afresh" with new songs. The band unveiled its eighth studio album in February and hopeful fans were quick to speculate that the "Creep" hitmakers had an imminent follow-up waiting to hit shelves.

The rumors were fueled after two new tracks, "Supercollider" and "The Butcher", leaked online. But guitarist Ed O'Brien insists those songs are actually part of a special vinyl Ep they created to mark Britain's Record Store Day on Saturday, April 16, when fans are encouraged to go out and buy music from independent shops.

O'Brien admits devotees will have to wait a while before hearing new music from the band - because there are no other tracks ready for release. He tells the BBC, "The Butcher is from the King Of Limbs sessions.

Radiohead's The King Of Limbs: A Minor Masterwork
Band releases their darkly atmospheric eighth studio album Friday, a day ahead of schedule.

By James Montgomery

Radiohead's last album, 2007's In Rainbows, was a very major affair. From its pay-as-you-wish, set-the-industry-ablaze rush release to its scattershot sonics — all clicky drum tracks and doomy guitars and keening electronics — it was exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from arguably the best (and certainly the most mercurial) band on the planet. It was an event.

Their new album, The King of Limbs, which was announced Monday and then showed up unexpectedly in fans' in-boxes on Friday (February 18) morning — one day ahead of schedule — is, by comparison, a decidedly minor effort. It was not preceded by a single "Death of the Music Industry" think piece, instead, it just sort of came out early, for reasons that, at the time of this writing, have yet to really be explained.

Radiohead Overturn Decision Not to Make New Album
British rockers Radiohead have backtracked over their decision not to release a new album this year - guitarist Ed O'Brien has confirmed the band is recording new music. Earlier this year online gossips claimed the Grammy winners were putting the finishing touches to a new release called "Tehrangeles", a follow up to their 2007 album "In Rainbows".

But the band insisted the gossip was false and there would be no new music in 2010. In a statement released to NME.com, the group insisted: "Most of it is made up and there is no album or album title." But O'Brien has revealed plans for a 2010 release are in fact in the works - and could be released in "a matter of weeks".

He tells BBC 6Music show: "We're in the heart of the record. It's genuinely exciting. It's very different from what we did last time. It's really nice to be doing this.

New Radiohead album 'finished in weeks'
Ed O'Brien
Ed O'Brien has confirmed that the recording of Radiohead's eighth studio album has nearly been completed. The guitarist told BBC 6 Music that work on the follow-up to 2007's In Rainbows was almost finished and that the group had worked in a "different spirit" to that album, one whose three-year recording was "the end of Radiohead Mark II". Radiohead Say New Album Is Almost Finished
'We're at the finishing line,' guitarist Ed O'Brien reveals.

By Kyle Anderson

Even though Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke recently declared that the entire record industry would collapse within a matter of months, that hasn't stopped his band from taking care of its own business. Guitarist Ed O'Brien told BBC 6 Music show host Adam Buxton that the follow-up to 2007's In Rainbows is nearly complete. "We're at the finishing line," he said. "When you're making a record, a film, writing a book for ages and ages you think the finishing line is miles away. Now it feels it's in touching distance."

O'Brien says that while he believes the album could be in fans' hands by the end of the year, there are always variables. "Ideally, it would be great if it came out sometime this year. It has got to. I hope so," he said. "But of course,...

Radiohead's New Album Report Is Made Up
British rockers Radiohead have blasted rumors they recently wrapped recording a new album - insisting they have no new music. Online gossips claimed the Grammy winners were adding finishing touches to a new release called "Tehrangeles", a follow up to their 2007 album "In Rainbows".

The rumors were fueled by guitarist Ed O'Brien, who recently told fans, "I am so genuinely excited about what we're doing, but for obvious reasons I can't divulge anything more. Anyway, we all love surprises don't we?" But the band insists the gossip is all a hoax and there'll be no new music in 2010. Manic Street Preachers' Nicky Wire Counteracts Radiohead's Ed O'Brien for His Word
Manic Street Preachers' rocker Nicky Wire has fueled a war of words with Radiohead's Ed O'Brien - he launched a furious tirade against the guitarist during a gig on Thursday, February 18. The bass player was seething after O'Brien branded him a "w**ker" for accusing the "Paranoid Android" hitmakers of taking a stand against illegal downloaders only after they had made their fortune in the music industry.

Wire hit back at the Radiohead's star during a show in Glasgow, Scotland on Thursday, branding O'Brien a "c**t" and mocking his education at an upmarket school. He told the audience, "Apparently Ed O'Brien called me a w**ker. I'm really f**king scared. Go back to your boarding school you c**t!"

Manic Street Preachers performed in Glasgow, Scotland to celebrate the 20th birthday of Glasgow's King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, as NME reported. They sang at the 300-capacity venue,...

Radiohead's Ed O'Brien Believes Illegal Download Not Leading to Bankruptcy
Radiohead star Ed O'Brien is adamant the internet is not "killing" the music industry - because fans who illegally download albums still spend cash on merchandise and concert tickets. The guitarist, a member of the Featured Artists Coalition (Fac), has waded into a debate over the British government's proposal to launch a crackdown on internet service providers who refuse to ban illegal file-sharing.

He insists the record industry will not collapse as a result of online trading - but bosses need to offer cheaper music in order to survive. O'Brien says, "I have a problem when people in the industry say it's killing the industry, it's the thing that's ripping us apart. I don't actually believe it is... (Pirates) might not buy an album, but they're spending their money buying concert tickets, a t-shirt, whatever."

"It's an analogue business model in a digital era. The business model has to change.

Radiohead Almost Split When Finishing 'In Rainbows'
British rockers Radiohead nearly parted ways during the recording of their hit 2007 album "In Rainbows" - because the lengthy studio sessions dragged on for several years. The band began working on tracks for the groundbreaking record in 2005 before it was eventually released online using a 'pay-what-you-like' system in late 2007.

And guitarist Ed O'Brien admits the album process was so long and tedious, they weren't sure whether they would continue as a group. He tells Midem, "The recording of the album took three years. Which is a long time by anybody's standards. It pretty much half killed us. Whether the band would continue was very much in the balance."

But the musician is convinced the decision to release the album using such an unconventional sales technique saved them from a split. He adds, "It was empowering. You can't put it into a balance sheet, this feeling of empowerment. It completely rejuvenated us as a band.

Radiohead: 'Industry needs to change'
Ed O'Brien
Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien has declared that the music industry needs to radically change in order to seriously compete with illegal filesharing. O'Brien has previously been a vocal critic of government plans to disconnect internet users who are found to be filesharing illegally. He has now said that the record industry is faltering because it has failed to change with the times. Speaking with Midem ahead of its 2010 music conference, O'Brien said: "I have a problem when people in the industry say 'it’s killing the industry, it's the thing that’s ripping us apart'. Compact Reviews of This Week's Compact Discs, For Those Who Still Care #5
Pick Of The Week. 7 Worlds Collide -- The Sun Came Out The brainstorm of singer-songwriter and New Zealand pop legend Neil Finn, 7 Worlds Collide first came about in 2002, when Finn and a stellar group of musicians that included Eddie Vedder, Johnny Marr, Ed O'Brien & Phil Selway of Radiohead, and Neil's brother, Split Enz founder Tim Finn, put on a series of concerts to benefit the international medical humanitarian organization Medecins Sans Frontieres. This time, sans Eddie Vedder, but including Wilco, the concerts happened again, as well as this 2 CD studio LP, that is just remarkable from top to bottom. This year the benficiary of all proceeds will go to Oxfam, which you could read all about here and the full roster of musicians can be found here.
