Peter Weir’s Master & Commander: The Far Side Of The World is heading to the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format this summer. More here.
Now here’s some terrific news. For those who support and enjoy the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format, a treat is on the way, thanks to the news that Master & Commander: The Far Side Of The World is finally coming to the format.
Based on the books by Patrick O’Brian, 2003’s movie was directed by Peter Weir, who apparently didn’t have a huge amount of fun making it. But heck, what a job he did. With liberal lashings of ‘they don’t make them like this anymore’, the story of Captain Jack Aubrey, Stephen Maturin and the Hms Surprise in the early 1800s remains one of the best blockbuster movies of the 2000s. Sadly, its box office didn’t return enough funds to...

Hundreds of war movies exist, designed to thrill audiences, sometimes at the behest of the summer movie season -- we're looking at you "Pearl Harbor." Too often, Hollywood neglects to tell the whole story, resulting in cookie-cutter pictures like John Wayne's "The Green Berets" or generic action extravaganzas like John Woo's "Windtalkers." Sure, they may contain state-of-the-art special effects, A-list stars, and rousing battle scenes, but they too often rely on genre cliches or wrap their historical backdrops around sappy romantic subplots.
What's missing? Well, all great war movies contain a pivotal ingredient: realism. Far too many pictures nix this key element and wind up as shallow cash grabs that exploit history for their own benefit. Luckily, plenty of directors also went to great lengths to achieve optimal realism, ensuring audiences walked away from their pictures with a greater understanding of the strength and sacrifices of those who died on the battlefield.

As James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe slowly fills out its roster of characters and actors, fans are eagerly filling in the gaps online. One popular fan-casting imagines comedian and actor John Mulaney as the intriguing and underappreciated hero Plastic Man. Despite his goofy name and background as a petty criminal, Patrick O'Brian is one of the most powerful heroes in the entire Justice League. While Mulaney's dry humor would be a perfect fit for the character, the comedian has given a dour and sarcastic update about his chances of playing the hero on screen.
During an interview with GQ where Mulaney went undercover on the internet to answer fan questions, the comedian was asked about the fan-casting of himself or Pete Davidson as Plastic Man. Hilariously, and somewhat expectedly, Mulaney had no idea who the character was. When asked, "How about one of these guys (John Mulaney/ Pete Davidson) as Plastic Man?...

The boss of 20th Century Studios, Steve Asbell, has revealed that the studio is still determined to make a prequel to one of Oscar winner Russell Crowes best movies. Speaking with THR, and revealing all manner of exciting updates about some of the most iconic franchises, including the likes of Predator, Alien, and Planet of the Apes, Asbell offered an exciting update regarding the long-awaited next installment in the Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World saga.
Announced back in 2021, a Master and Commander prequel has been in the works ever since, with Asbell now revealing that a script has been completed and the studio is now on the hunt for the perfect filmmaker to take the helm.
Im trying so hard. Its the first movie I worked on at Fox twenty years ago. We have a great script. It just needs the right director.

20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell recently spoke with THR about various upcoming projects, including several new Predator movies, a sequel to Alien: Romulus, and another Planet of the Apes movie. However, Asbell also gave an update on one project that has flown under the radar: a prequel to Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
“I’m trying so hard. It’s the first movie I worked on at Fox twenty years ago,” Asbell said of the Master and Commander prequel. “We have a great script. It just needs the right director.“
Based on the novels by Patrick O’Brian, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World was released over twenty years ago, and although the sea-faring adventure was intended to launch a franchise, it didn’t happen. Over the years, the film has developed a passionate fanbase who are eager for more. Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls...

Oceans are now battlefields, Russell Crowe isn't getting any younger, and "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" fans are still waiting on news of another movie in the seafaring series. That lengthy wait, however, might finally be getting shorter. Directed by the great Peter Weir, the 2003 original has had audiences craving another sequel for over two decades now. Unfortunately, the historical epic had the grave misfortune of debuting only a few weeks before "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" sucked up all the moviegoing oxygen and swept the subsequent Academy Awards ... dooming the masterful (pun certainly intended) blockbuster to an uncertain fate.
Now, that long-awaited follow up might just be closer to happening than ever before -- presuming the concerned parties can figure out one key missing piece. Although Crowe once valiantly mounted an online campaign to usher in a sequel starring himself,...

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for Plastic Man No More! #1!DC is using a C-list Justice League member to take shots at some of the publishers most iconic characters, with even Superman and Wonder Woman not spared from the verbal roast. True to form, though, Batman manages to dodge the savagery entirely, once again affirming the Dark Knight's undeniable cool factor.
Christopher Cantwell, Jacob Edgar, Alex Lins, and Marcelo Maiolo's Plastic Man No More! #1 offers an insider look at the Justice League's team dynamics through the eyes of Plastic Man (Patrick "Eel" O'Brian).
In a key battle, the usually indestructible O'Brian is hit with a death ray that leaves his elasticity in a somewhat melted state. When he shares his concerns with the team, they laugh it off, virtually ignoring him. Frustrated and feeling dismissed, Plastic Man heads home, where he launches into a rant, roasting his fellow heroes.

Wonder Woman teams up with Plastic Man to retrieve her stolen Lasso of Truth. Plastic Man's backstory reveals he has powerful abilities, making him a valuable ally. The unlikely pairing highlights the importance of mutual respect and the potential in underrated heroes.
Part of DC's Trinity, Wonder Woman is strong, kind, and fights for truth and hope. One of her primary weapons in that fight is the Lasso of Truth, an Amazonian rope that prevents anyone who touches it from telling lies. In an upcoming comic, however, it gets stolen, and to catch a thief, she'll need one - Plastic Man.
While in her own book, Diana Prince has been fighting the secret American monarchy and discovering a new Amazonian child, this side story appears in the anthology Batman: The Brave and the Bold #19. In DC Comics' November solicitations, readers can get a teaser for Wonder Woman's next adventure and...

The same year he was cast to play the iconic character Kramer on the sitcom Seinfeld, Michael Richards could also be seen on the big screen in the comedy Uhf – which was a financial disappointment at the time of its release in the summer of 1989, but has gone on to gather a huge cult following over the years. Musician “Weird Al” Yankovic plays the lead role of George Newman, who is put in charge of the Uhf television channel Channel 62, with Richards in the supporting role of janitor-turned-host Stanley Spadowski… and for a while, it looked like Richards would be playing Stanley while dealing with a case of Bell’s palsy.
As Richards writes in his memoir Entrances and Exits, “Before the Seinfeld pilot, I star in three pilots: Herndon (1983), Help (1984), and Slickers (1985). All three are offered to me. The second pilot, Help, is retooled and called Marblehead Manor, and...

Bridesmaids is a classic comedy with an unbeatable energy, stellar cast, and memorable quotes. A must-watch for friends. Movies like Bridesmaids, such as Booksmart and Clueless, highlight female friendships with comedic timing and interesting storylines. Wine Country, Girls Trip, and Sisters also explore the complexities of female friendships in comedic and heartwarming ways.
Bridesmaids is difficult to top when it comes to absolutely iconic humor that focuses on friends, but there are plenty of other movies like Bridesmaids that are worth the watch. Bridesmaids has everything from a stellar cast to glorious improvisation, and it is topped off with an unstoppable energy that cannot be beaten. The hilarious film starring Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Melissa Mccarthy, was released in 2010, and follows the struggling single girl Annie (Wiig) as she tries to help plan her best friend Lillian's (Rudolph) wedding.

Plastic Man, often underrated, is actually one of the Justice League's most powerful members. Plastic Man's super elasticity allows him to disable even speedster heroes like The Flash. Justice League members underestimate Plastic Man's abilities, but his power and potential danger have been acknowledged by Wonder Woman and Batman.
The A-List members of the Justice League like Wonder Woman and Superman are among the most absurdly powerful characters in the DC Universe. However, the Z-Lister Plastic Man does not get the credit he deserves as one of the League's most powerful members.
While he isn't nearly as famous as the most popular Justice Leaguers, Plastic Man is still incredibly dangerous. He is such a major threat that even Wonder Woman remarks on it in Injustice Gods Among Us: Year Four Annual #1 by Tom Taylor, Bruno Redondo, Sergio Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona, Rex Lokus, and Wes Abbott.

Hollywood works in phases. We’re in the middle of a vast superhero movie phase, which, maybe, seems to be on the downslide. Twenty-five years ago, war movies were all the rage in the wake of Saving Private Ryan, and once those taped off, historical epics became the blockbuster of choice for studios. Indeed, it was the smash success of Braveheart and Gladiator that paved the way for this run of films which started to tape off in the mid-aughts after a few mammothly pricey films, such as The Last Samurai and Troy, only earned modest profits for their studios. One such film was 20th Century Fox’s Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. It earned critical raves but cost too much to become the franchise Fox was hoping for, with it being based on a long-running series of books by Patrick O’Brien. Yet, the movie holds...

After the recent years of rebooting television shows from the 1980s and 90s and adapting a movie or two into a show, Hollywood has set its next reboot target: popular franchises based on popular book series. There have recently been announcements for television series based on both the Harry Potter books and the Twilight novels, as if this is once again the early to mid-2000s. Both literary series were previously adapted into major film franchises, each one grossing over a billion dollars that, despite some quibbles, are genuinely beloved by fans of the source material. The promise of new adaptations is that they will be more fateful to the books, but with imperfect but beloved adaptations, is there any urgency for the titles? Hollywood would be better off adapting a series of books that maybe were meant to be a franchise but were possibly too unwieldy for the medium of film.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World director Peter Weir nails down just why his 2003 naval epic is so enduringly beloved. The film follows Captain Jack Aubrey (Russell Crowe) and the crew of the H.M.S. Surprise, who, in 1805, are tasked with hunting down and capturing a powerful French ship. Master and Commander, which is based on three novels from Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series, was a hit with critics upon release and would go on to be nominated for ten Oscars.
Now, twenty years after the release of Master and Commander, Weir reveals in a recent interview with GQ why he thinks the movie continues to endure. According to the director, male audiences, in particular, still love the film because it explores universal themes that remain relevant regardless of the time period. Check out Weir's full comment below:
“It's about how men (and boys) behaved in that time and circumstance.

The old gang is back together again! A new trailer for Peacock’s “Saved by the Bell” offers the first look at Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Tiffani Thiessen reprising their roles of Zack Morris and Kelly Kapowski, respectively.
And let’s face it, for much of the audience of this upcoming streaming sitcom, John Michael Higgins’ Principal Ronald Toddman puts it best, “I just care about Zack and Kelly!”
The new trailer, which you can watch above, speaks directly to fans of the original late-1980s/early-1990s Saturday morning series with callbacks such as A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez) calling Jessie Spano (Elizabeth Berkley Lauren) “Mama,” as well as spinning a chair around so he can sit down in it backwards. It also shows all four of those original cast members taking the stage for what appears to be a Zack Attack reunion in the style of Zack’s infamous...
