Indian cinema’s biggest mythological spectacle is taking shape as actor-producer Yash has begun principal photography on “Ramayana.”

Yash‘s Monster Mind Creations and producer Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios have partnered on the adaptation of the Indian epic.

Speaking at a Megacon Orlando Q&a, he revealed the outdoor sets had insane ramps built for stunt practice. That's expected in a film heavily reliant on real vehicle chases, but it must have been awesome to see the stunt crew polishing their tricks. "We would turn up in the morning in the desert and they built these motorcycle ramps for stunt doubles to practice doing jumps 30-40ft in the air," he said. "I was like 'This is a weird place.'"

Thanks to photorealistic tech advancements, George Miller evolved his approach to VFX on the “Mad Max” franchise in the nine years since “Fury Road.” Which is why he was much more comfortable using CG in post on “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” His thrilling stunt-driven chase sequences were shot in-camera with as many practical effects as possible, but CG enabled him to achieve greater dynamic energy while enhancing his stylized world-building.

Back from “Fury Road” was production VFX supervisor Andrew Jackson, who was eager to play with a bigger digital toolbox. This not only encompassed more realistic fire, water, dust, and smoke but also allowed the VFX team to extend the Wasteland desert landscape and skies and embellish the newly created Gas Town and Bullet Town environments. Plus, they were able to replace or augment the iconic vehicles (especially the multitude of motorcycles) for the action set pieces.

The Mad Max franchise is unarguably one of the most popular action franchises of all time, created by mastermind George Miller. That being said, in the highest-rated critically commended movie from Gibson’s original trilogy, i.e. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, there is a very brutal yet one of the most memorable stunt scenes that could have even resulted in the actor being taken down to surgery. George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Furiosa, has not been performing very well in theaters since it went on release last Friday, and unless there's a drastic improvement in box office takings, this could spell doom for the legendary filmmaker's plans for a follow-up.

Furiosa took in a disappointing $35 million domestically for the four-day Memorial Day weekend, and amassed an only slightly better $40 million overseas for a running global total of $75 million.

The movie opens in Greece and Japan this week, before releasing in China on June 7.

It is worth noting that Fury Road was by no means a box office smash, either, but the movie's popularity and Academy Awards attention is believed to have factored into Warner Bros.' decision to greenlight Miller's prequel - and they may not be quite so quick to do the same if Furiosa doesn't get a high-octane boost of box...

The violent Wasteland of George Millers Mad Max franchise isn't exactly bustling with sympathetic characters, and even the titular protagonist is really more of a reluctant hero doing what he can to survive.

2015's Fury Road did introduce a slightly more selfless take on Max (Tom Hardy) along with a genuinely heroic figure in the form of Furiosa (Charlize Theron), and in addition to charting the origin of the Immortan Joe's Imperator (now played by Anya Taylor-Joy), Miller's prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, features the debut of the thoughtful, compassionate Praetorian Jack (Tom Burke).

The Mad Max saga has shaped the modern world, for better or for worse, and one can hardly complain about the domination of the ultra-violent, hyper-aggressive, and sadistic system that guides the franchise. This weekend brings the action-packed odyssey of "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" to theaters for all to witness and enjoy. While the movie acts as a prequel to incredible "Mad Max: Fury Road," it does differ from George Miller's fast-paced franchise revival from 2015 by spanning years, even decades, as we learn the origins of Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) and see how her quest for vengeance against the maniacal Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) becomes tied up in the legacy of Mad Max and the Wasteland's wars. 

But where "Furiosa" matches "Fury Road" is in the unbelievable, adrenaline-fueled vehicular mayhem and brutal combat between both humans and customized cars, trucks, and pretty anything with wheels. However, the prequel does enhance one particular element of the "Mad Max" franchise, and it's a detail that almost made it into "Fury Road."

George Miller's Fury Road prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, revs into theaters this weekend, and while the movie is quite a bit more brutal than our previous trip to the Wasteland, it seems there was one scene that proved a little too gruesome for the legendary filmmaker.

Spoilers relating to the ending of the film follow.

During an interview with GQ, star Anya Taylor-Joy revealed that she convinced Miller to shoot a scene in which her character cuts out the tongue of her nemesis, the cruel warlord Demenetus (Chris Hemsworth), who was responsible for the death of her mother - and plenty more besides.

However, the gory moment didn't make the theatrical cut of the film.

“It was really important to me that the confrontation between Furiosa and Dementus be a physical one, and that it was hard-won,” said the actress. “It needed it; she needed it. I...

The first reviews are in for George Miller’s anticipated Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the notices are largely positive so far.

Reviewing for The Guardian, Peter Bradshaw gave the movie four stars, and he was one of many to heap praise on leads Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. He called Taylor-Joy an “overwhelmingly convincing action hero” who “sells this sequel.”

Taken somewhere in the ’70s, it’s a picture of Craig Hemsworth — back when the father of Chris Hemsworth hung out with the same gang of motorbike riders that appeared in the original “Mad Max.” He even knew Wonder Dog, that film’s cycle-riding canine. And of course, the younger Hemsworth is a dead ringer for his dad.

“[Chris] dug deep,” Miller told IndieWire of his “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” star. “He is highly considered on anything and everything, multi-dimensional. And he has wisdom. He is just 40. Now, at that age, if I only had half his understanding of the world at large, his place in it, the connection to family and the way he wants to conduct his life!”

We’re in Cannes and it’s the day before the festival’s out-of-competition world premiere of “Furiosa,” the fifth installment of his 45-year-old franchise.

Warner Bros. has released the first clips from George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, highlighting what will likely be a couple of key sequences from the upcoming Fury Road prequel.

In the first clip, we see Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) take aim at Dementus (Chris Hemsworth), only to come to the realization that the wily warlord also has her in his sights. One rocket launcher blast later, and everyone appear to be down for the count.

The second sneak peek finds Dementus at the mercy of Furiosa. After commending her on her survival skills, the villain makes a grab for her boot knife and gets a gun-barrel in the face for his efforts.

It is often an agreement between veteran directors that the usage of CGI should be kept to a minimum when creating cinematic movies. Director George Miller who directed both Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the 1982 film Mad Max 2 or The Road Warrior, seems to agree with these statements.

Turns out, Anya Taylor-Joy has a shaved head in “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel “Furiosa.”

The “Queen’s Gambit” star recently told Empire magazine that director George Miller told her to not shave her head for the role; however, in the new trailer, a buzzed cut is boasted by the star, mirroring Charlize Theron’s look as Furiosa for “Fury Road.” Taylor-Joy is almost certainly sporting a wig in the film; we sure haven’t seen her growing back long locks in the time since.

New South Wales state Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced George Miller’s upcoming “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel film “Furiosa” will become the biggest movie ever made in Australia. The Warner Bros.-backed action tentpole is set to begin filming in New South Wales in 2022. According to Berejiklian, “Furiosa” will pump at least $350M Aud into the local economy and create 850 new jobs. Berejiklian made the announcement at a press conference with director Miller and cast member Chris Hemsworth in attendance.

Set to be shot across multiple locations in Western Sydney and regional Nsw, the film is expected to be the biggest ever made in Australia, creating 850 jobs and injecting at least $350 million into the local economy.

Star Chris Hemsworth, Miller, and producer Doug Mitchell joined Nsw Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts Paul Fletcher, Nsw Arts Minister Don Harwin, and Nsw Treasurer Dominic Perrottet in announcing the location for the project, which is being funded via Nsw Government’s $175 million Made in Nsw fund and Pdv Rebate, as well as the Federal Government’s 40 per cent Producer Offset.

Exclusive: More than two years after it was announced and after a couple of delays, George Miller’s anticipated fantasy-romance-drama Three Thousand Years Of Longing is now underway in Australia, we can reveal.

The Sydney-based production, which is observing numerous on-set Covid safety protocols, is in fact 20 days into its 62-day shoot. The team will break up over Christmas and reconvene early next year before wrapping in the early spring for a planned September 2021 delivery.

Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba are starring in Miller’s latest, whose plot details are being kept under wraps. The visionary filmmaker previously described the project to us as an “anti-Mad Max” with plenty of interiors and dialogue but also punctuated with action scenes.

Taylor-Joy, whose credits include Emma, Split and Glass, will play the lead in the movie which tracks the genesis of the fierce warrior Furiosa before she teamed up with Tom Hardy’s Max Rockatansky in Fury Road.

Deadline did not specify the roles to be played by Hemsworth, who is set to star in WB’s Thor: Love & Thunder, or Abdul-Mateen II, who starred as super villain Black Manta in James Wan’s Aquaman.

Currently the latter is filming the fourth installment in The Matrix series, directed by Lana Wachowski and starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Thirty-three seasons into MTV’s “The Challenge,” the reality competition series has spawned a band of traveling producers and engineers who fly around the world to create one-of-a-kind games. This includes placing cameras, smoke elements and a puzzle inside a plane that was suspended more than 30 feet above water.

Executive producer Justin Booth joined “The Challenge” in 2003 and wanted to take it on “an international adventure,” he says. To do so, he and his colleagues started out by finding local crew in whatever country they were filming in that season. But some members kept getting invited back, despite the need to fly them to the new location.

“A lot of the things that we endeavor to do are never done before,” says Booth, “and that can be overwhelming for people. So I need strong personalities who don’t get flustered and have a work ethic and unflappable attitude.”

The George Miller of the 1970s would never have believed he would one day be spearheading a production with a budget estimated at a staggering $150 million. Miller had made the first three movies when he was in his thirties. At sixty-seven, when “Fury Road” commenced principal photography, those days were far back in the past. Shooting the original film in Melbourne felt like a lifetime ago.

For his first “Mad Max” movie in close to three decades, Miller wanted to be on the frontline at all times. But he soon realized that was impossible given the scale of production: a 138-day shoot with complicated stunts occurring on a near-daily basis. Aussie stunts legend Guy Norris (The Lord of the Rings, the upcoming Ghost in the Shell) got involved in Suicide Squad, DC's supervillain blockbuster starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie, through a connection to the film's producer Charles Roven (Warcraft, The Dark Knight).

"Chuck Roven and I had worked together on three projects in the last 30 years and we were always trying to look to work together," Norris told If. "After shooting Mad Max: Fury Road, Chuck had Suicide Squad in his hands and asked me to come and be involved.".

The production became a family affair when Norris, the film's action-unit director and stunt coordinator, enlisted his son Harrison, who "has literally grown up on sets", said Norris.

"He was involved in Fury Road as a stunt performer and became involved on Suicide Squad as the action pre-visualisation artist.

In an environment where Hollywood can make literally anything happen, and look real, thanks to digital effects, Mad Max: Fury Road became something of an outlier when it made a commitment to doing many of their effects practically. There is a downside to actually make cars crash into each other however. It.s that there are actual people in those cars. Doug Mitchell is a longtime collaborator with Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller. As a producer on Fury Road, Mitchell was closely involved in many aspects of production, including all of those great practical effects.
