The innies and the outies will be partying at the Emmys.
Severance avoided the sophomore slump in a major way, riding its meme-tastic Season 2 to an Emmy-dominating 27 nominations on Tuesday, including a bid for Best Drama Series, and nine acting nods. Entering Emmy season as the show to beat, per the Gold Derby odds, the Apple TV+ series was widely expected not only to improve upon the 14 nominations it garnered in its first season but to challenge last year's nomination champ, Shōgun. In the end, Severance eclipsed the Japanese period drama by two nods and fell just short of Game of Thrones' all-time mark of 32.
Here's a look at every category where Severance scored — and everywhere it was snubbed.

No, we are not talking about Robert Downey Jr.’s movies or Benedict Cumberbatch’s acclaimed series. The show in question is Elementary — a critically acclaimed yet often-overlooked reimagining of Sherlock Holmes. Read on to find out what it’s about and where to stream it in India.

It was the fall of 2004, and there was nothing like "Lost." While narrative arcs had finally become part of television, helped by sci-fi predecessors like "Babylon 5" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Lost" used the technique to make its mark. It starts with a horrifying airplane incident, a passenger jet splitting in half high in the sky. Three years after 9/11, it was a ballsy play. But the survivors awoke in a tropical paradise, where little was as it seemed.
We were gripped by revelations that shocked us: Terry O'Quinn's walkabout turns into an inexplicable miracle, a mysterious signal is picked up, a monster made of smoke lurks at the fringes, and of course, the fateful discovery of the hatch. "Lost" didn't stick the landing as we devoured all six seasons (or maybe it did), with some mysteries turned...

Due to its very premise, "Severance" tends to focus on the "innie" workers who toil away on the severed floor of Lumon Industries' headquarters in Kier, Pe. These characters lead a mysterious, isolated, and utterly strange existence that forms the backbone of the show's mysteries. However, the very reason they exist is that at some point, a person agreed to undergo Lumon's infamous and controversial severance procedure. This split their personalities into their usual "outie" selves and the innies, the latter of which only exist within the confines of the severed floor -- or, in rare circumstances, when Lumon activates them off-site with a process called the Overtime Contingency Protocol.
As the show slowly reveals, the severance process is drastic, and many of the outies have equally drastic reasons for agreeing to it. Some of them are on a mission, others are looking for better opportunities, while others still are simply trying to escape something.

"Severance" is an enormous hit for its streaming home, Apple TV+, and that's absolutely thanks to not just the show's quality — creator Dan Erickson and executive producer Ben Stiller are doing phenomenal work — but its powerhouse cast. Adam Scott leads the proceedings as Mark S., but he's flanked by Britt Lower (as Helly R.), Zach Cherry (as Dylan G.), and John Turturro (as Irving B.) most of the time. That's without even mentioning industry heavyweights like Patricia Arquette and Christopher Walken, who appear as Harmony Cobel and Burt G., respectively. Now, we know exactly how Walken got involved with "Severance": Turturro requested his presence.

The jury's still out on exactly what Lumon's up to in Severance, but executive Ben Stiller finally and officially confirmed once and for all the identity of the season 2 voiceover cameo. (Not that it was that big of a mystery to begin with!) While dropping by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on March 3, Stiller confirmed that yes, that was the voice of Keanu Reeves as the animated Lumon building.
But Stiller also shared who almost made the cut in the surprising and iconic Severance season 2 cameo that had everyone talking. When Kimmel...

Severance shed some much-needed light on Mark’s wife Gemma and her backstory this week… while also hinting at what’s going on at Lumon in the present.
Friday’s episode starts out by taking us back to the day Mark and Gemma first met as professors, giving blood on a college campus. It also dips into present-day, where Gemma is giving blood in a mysterious white room, while Reghabi reassures Devon that Mark is fine — despite him, you know, collapsing. She explains that Mark is reintegrating (“It’s what he wants”) and adds that Gemma is alive, which sends Devon into tears.

This article contains Major Spoilers for Severance Season 2, Episode 6, "Attila".
Severance Season 2, Episode 6 hinted at Burt's deeper ties to the Eagans. Christopher Walken sparked new fan theories by teasing his character's storyline outside Lumon.
Christopher Walken didn't expect Burt's story arc in Severance Season 1. Episode 9 caught up with Burt after his retirement; the scene played out from Irving's perspective, however, after Dylan hacked the Overtime Contingency Protocol. Irving's innie was heartbroken to discover Burt's outie has a husband. Walken confirmed Burt's outie felt like a new character. "You'd see the house he lived in, who he lived with, the way he dressed, the way he was a little bit different as an Outie than he was at Lumon," he told IndieWire. "When I saw the house he lived in, I was surprised. I thought Burt wouldn't live in a house like this. And then I thought, 'Well, yes, he would.

Editor's note: The below interview contains spoilers for Severance Season 2.Apple TV+'s Severance is home to a lot of twists and turns, but perhaps one of the twistiest aspects of all is the possibility of romance that has emerged for certain characters, despite the fact that many of them are literally living severed lives. This season, relationships are becoming even more complicated for innie like Dylan G. (Zach Cherry) or Mark S. (Adam Scott), but back when the show first premiered, one of its sweetest and, surprisingly, most innocent dynamics was introduced through the romance between innies Irving B. (John Turturro) and Burt G. (Christopher Walken), who offered an unexpectedly light contrast to some of the series' darker happenings. Theirs is a relationship that's given even more weight because of the veteran screen presences behind it, but their innies' connection also seems to carry over into Season 2, as Burt...

The second Christopher Walken read the script for the “Severance” episode “Attila,” he knew what to expect.
“It’s one of those family dinners that we’ve all had where things are not going well,” Walken told TheWrap, referring to the scene as “one of those slightly nightmare dinners.”
In the final moments of “Severance” Season 2, Episode 5, outie Irving (John Turturro) notices that a man is watching him. Eventually, Burt (Walken) admits he’s been following Irving since the Overtime Contingency and shares his theory that their innies were romantically involved. As a sort of peace offering, Burt invites Irving to have dinner with him and his husband, Fields (John Noble). Thus begins the tensest dinner in “Severance” history. As Irving and Burt bashfully get to know one another, Fields consistently interjects with a series of aggressive barbs.

The first season of “Severance” kept its characters “Outies” close to the chest (except for Adam Scott’s), but halfway through Season 2, viewers know a lot more. They’ve seen the wife and children of Dylan (Zach Cherry), the calculated power of Helena (Britt Lower), and the solemn solitude of Irving (John Turturro) — as well as glimpsed his former workplace love, Burt (Christopher Walken).
Walken always knew that the audience would meet his Outie, which first happened in Season 1, Episode 9. “You’d see the house he lived in, who he lived with, the way he dressed, the way he was a little bit different as an Outie than he was at Lumon,” the actor told IndieWire. “When I saw the house he lived in, I was surprised. The latest episode of Severance threw a curveball with the introduction of Burt’s husband, Fields, played by John Noble. While his arrival seemed like a simple domestic moment, I think it might have actually opened a Pandora’s Box of questions about Lumon Industries and its secrets. I’ve been turning over the details in my mind, and I want to share some of my thoughts on what Fields’ presence could mean.
Burt’s Husband Fields: A Timeline That Doesn’t Add Up
One of the most intriguing moments for me was during the dinner scene with Burt, Irving, and Fields. When they were reminiscing, Fields mentioned that he and Burt started using the nickname “Attila” about 20 years ago. Burt, however, corrected him, saying it had only been 10 years. This might seem like a minor disagreement, but Irving’s quick reminder that severance technology has only existed for 12 years made my ears perk up.

Editor's note: The below interview contains spoilers for Severance Season 2 Episode 6.While Apple TV+'s Severance has been home to a lot of twisty mysteries, one aspect the show is already providing more answers about is the outies. We've spent a lot of time on Lumon's strange severed floor already, but Season 2 has pushed past that boundary to reveal much more of what's going on in the lives of the company's severed employees — beyond Mark Scout (Adam Scott), at least. This week's episode, "Attila," clues us in on a bit more in terms of what the remaining members of Mdr — and yes, we're still counting Irving (John Turturro) — are doing when they're not refining (or making use of their Lumon-approved hall passes to skip out on said refining). Dylan (Zach Cherry) may have ended up in a love triangle with his wife, Gretchen (Merritt Wever), and his own innie, while...

Amid Episode 6’s revealing, awkward, and intimate dinner party, Fields (John Noble) presents a seemingly innocuous opinion. “I believe Innies deserve to experience love,” he says. In the moment, it’s a supportive, friendly gesture. Fields, after all, is sharing his table with a man, Irving (John Turturro), who had an “erotic entanglement” with his husband, Burt (Christopher Walken). That their romantic relationship was restricted to the office, where the couple worked as severed employees, is a significant distinction — if Innies and Outies are independent individuals, with no real knowledge of what the other is doing, thinking, or feeling, then it would be hard for Fields to argue his husband betrayed him.
But that’s a big “if.” In the world of “Severance,” people have been arguing over whether Innies and Outies are separate people since the...

Mark’s hallucination at the end of “Trojan’s Horse” was one of the more upsetting sequences of Severance to date. Not only did Mark S. have to watch his wife in the Lumon halls, but he could not even get her to respond. The result was instantly paralyzing, and his reintegration appears to be underway. “Attila” looks to dive deeper into this aspect of the series, opening the door for stranger and more upsetting actions from Lumon in the weeks ahead.

She believes this means the process is working, but Mark is deeply disturbed by Gemma’s total lack of recognition. He talks about bargaining as a step in the grief process, and he realizes that he might be able to make those changes.

Where the first episode focused solely on the innies on the other side of the overtime contingency plan, episode two centers on the outies as they navigate the aftermath of their work selves’ actions.
We see exactly how the ensuing hours played out for every single one of the Mdr Four, with one exception: Irving. John Turturro’s doggedly dogmatic worker bee lost his loyalty to Lumon across the first season, thanks to his growing love for Burt (Christopher Walken). After Burt’s forced retirement, Irving pushed all in on the innies’ plot to break out into the real world.

The teaser, which was shared by director Ben Stiller, sees Cook heading down to the severance floor after undergoing the surgical procedure to divide his identity between work and personal life. Upon arrival, Cook’s grim face turns into a smile as his innie, dubbed Tim C., roams the halls of Lumon before being greeted by supervisor Mr. Milchick, portrayed by Tramell Tillman.
“Tim C., core of the Apple,” Milchick says. “Have a seat.”
Cook nods and proceeds to sit in front of a monitor that displays “Severance Season 2” followed by the Apple TV+ logo with the words, “Now Streaming.”
In a Friday post on X, Stiller shared the clip with the caption: “Was helping this new guy find his office this morning,” to which Cook replied: “Ready to clock...

The first season of Severance became an instant hit for Apple. The surreal workplace thriller blended elements of science fiction, dark comedy, and brilliant, subversive twists to keep viewers wondering what was coming next in the world of innies and outies. The process that gave the series its title created a block between the employees of Lumon Industries, preventing workers from knowing what their lives are like outside the office. Led by Mark Scout (Adam Scott), the team consisting of Irving (John Turturro), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Helly (Britt Lower) begins to unravel that there may be more going on than they realize.
Season two finds the severed employees at Lumon dealing with the fallout from their actions in the first season finale. With new coworkers and mysterious changes at their company, the team balances their innie and outie lives as they try to figure out what is really going on.

The battle scenes in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy are among some of the greatest in cinema history. The Battle of Helm's Deep in The Two Towers and the Ride of the Rohirrim and the final Battle of the Pelennor Fields from Return of the King are fan favorites due to their grand scale, brilliant visual effects, and standout performances from the entire cast. But, you might be surprised to learn that the battles in J.R.R. Tolkien's seminal fantasy world are historically accurate.
Ancient historian, Roel Konijnendijk, sat down with Insider to rate battle scenes from movies, including The Lord of the Rings. He was shown several battles from The Return of the King, and surprisingly had high praise for them in terms of accuracy. He began with the endlessly quoted "Ride Now" scene from the Ride of the Rohirrim. "Him slapping the lances with his sword,...
