Natasha Lyonne first burst onto the scene in the late '90s with her work in movies like American Pie and But I’m a Cheerleader, but she’s embraced a new level of stardom in the last few years. She took her fame to new levels thanks to her role as Nicky Nichols in Orange is the New Black, and more recently, she’s become known for playing Charlie Cale in Poker Face. It was announced earlier this week that Lyonne would make her directorial debut on Uncanny Valley, a new film that will see her work with Asteria, "an artist-led generative AI film and animation studio." Lyonne recently sat down with Collider’s Christina Radish to talk Poker Face Season 2, and she spoke about the team tasked with bringing Uncanny Valley to life:
"The subject matter is something that’s not too unknown. There’s a lot of information on it.

Natasha Lyonne is set to make her feature-length directorial debut with a new AI-generated movie. Lyonne will be joined by computer scientist and visual artist Jaron Lanier for the project.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed news of Lyonne's Uncanny Valley, a feature film "set in the world of immersive video games"' that plans to make "abundant" use of artificial intelligence. The project is backed by Asteria, a new AI-based studio founded by Lyonne and LA filmmaker/entrepreneur Bryn Mooser. A representative for Asteria said the film will "blend" traditional storytelling techniques with cutting-edge AI tech to create a "radical new cinematic experience."
Uncanny Valley's story will be directed by Lyonne from a script she wrote with Brit Marling, although it wasn't made clear in the original announcement if generative A.I. was involved in creating the script. The story is centered on a teenage girl who becomes entranced with...

The cast of Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four is growing by the day! After announcing the additions of John Malkovich, Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson, Deadline says Poker Face and Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne is joining the latest iteration of Marvel’s first family. Fantastic Four stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm-Richards, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. There is no indication if the Richards’ children, Valeria and Franklin, will appear in the film. The addition of Natasha Lyonne is already sending Fantastic Four fans into a tizzy with theories about who she could play in the film.
WandaVision director Matt Shakman is directing Fantastic Four from a script by Ric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer. Plot details are sparse, though we know Julia Garner is playing Shalla-Bal, a version of Silver Surfer from the comics.

You’ll have to forgive Natasha Lyonne if she’s irritable today. She just quit smoking, which is no small feat for someone who’s so synonymous with the habit that there’s an Instagram account dedicated to the coolness of her taking a drag.
“I’ve been putting it off for so long,” she tells me, pointing to the small Nicorette pack on the coffee table in her East Village apartment. “I’m naturally wired for self-destructive crutches. I fucking love a vice.”
Though she admits there are “immense” consequences of raging nicotine withdrawal, the health benefits far outweigh the discomfort.
“It might be a symptom of being in a pretty decent place,” she offers of her reason for quitting. “In a way, I want to meet that artistically and emotionally. I want to return the favor and say, ‘Ok, maybe I’ll sign up for life for a little bit longer.

Currently starring on Rian Johnson’s Peacock mystery series Poker Face, Natasha Lyonne is slowly becoming one of the biggest names in our current entertainment landscape. Apart from playing amateur sleuth Charlie Cale in 2023, the actress also scored a second season for her personal project Russian Doll, on Netflix, in 2022, and got herself a cameo in Johnson’s second installment of the Knives Out franchise, Glass Onion. With all this exposition, the love for her roles in late '90s cult classics such as The Slums of Beverly Hills and But I’m a Cheerleader has only gotten more widespread online. But the role that really put Lyonne in the limelight was not Russian Doll’s time-traveling party girl Nadia Vulvokov nor But I’m a Cheerleader’s high school queen turned pariah Megan. It’s time we give the proper attention and appreciation to the part that truly made Natasha...

Did you know Natasha Lyonne turned down “American Pie” not once but several times? The actress finally revealed the reason on “The Drew Barrymore Show.”
Before deciding to accept the invitation, Lyonne disclosed that she had been invited to join the cast of “American Pie” multiple times. She revealed that she wasn’t exactly able to relate to the film’s pupils’ goal to become virgins, though. She informed Barrymore that “it already happened” for her.

Talk to anyone involved with Peacock detective series Poker Face long enough and they’ll eventually, invariably invoke the name of one of television’s most iconic characters: Columbo.
Los Angeles Police Department homicide detective Lieutenant Columbo (first name unknown but probably Frank) first appeared in the 1968 pilot episode of what would become the beloved long-running gumshoe series bearing his name. As portrayed by veteran actor Peter Falk, Columbo continued the Sherlock Holmes tradition of intensely idiosyncratic problem-solvers. Unapologetically blue collar with his wrinkly beige raincoat and perpetually-lit cigar, the detective would drop into crime scenes like an unassuming transient. Then he would lull murderers into a false sense of security with his benign presence only to then lay down the hammer with a well-placed “just one more thing … ” and ask the question that will close the case for good.
Structurally, Columbo was refreshingly revelatory for its medium. The series...

The 1999 teen comedy American Pie is one of the most iconic films about sex and dating, but Natasha Lyonne came close to not becoming part of the cast. Known as the first major movie for young actors such as Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, and Mena Suvari, the story follows clueless high school students who want to lose their virginity. Lyonne's bold and knowledgeable character Jessica stands out against the others. The movie grossed over 200 million (via Box Office Mojo) and the scene of Bigg's character Jim having an intimate moment with an apple pie in his kitchen is still surprising years later.
Lyonne played her American Pie role the same year that she portrayed Vivian Abromowitz in the 1998 comedy Slums of Beverly Hills. She continued to play confident and sure of themselves characters, from Megan Bloomfield in But I'm A Cheerleader to Nadia Vulvokov in the Netflix time loop series...

Orange is the New Black would have looked a lot different if the show stuck to the original plan for Danielle Brooks' character, Taystee Jefferson, and only kept her around for two episodes. Thankfully, Brooks' performance wowed the showrunners, and Taystee played a huge role in Litchfield.
But every likable character like Taystee, there's an equally unlikable character like former Co, Sam Healy. From outgoing personalities to toxic mother figures, less likable characters make infuriating decisions that impact more than just themselves while the likable characters are touched audiences' hearts with their journeys and growth.
Natalie “Fig” Figueroa
Natalie "Fig" Figueroa is a completely unlikable character. She is mean and cruel toward the inmates, unable to put herself in their shoes. For the better part of the series, she is selfish and overlooks the poor treatment of the inmates and condition of the prison.

Two decades before her turn as the gruff-voiced, sardonic Nadia on the existential dramedy “Russian Doll,” a teenage Natasha Lyonne played DJ, the

In the next few years she went on to star in a number of raunchy teen comedies, including “American Pie,” “But I’m a Cheerleader” and “Scary Movie 2.”

1. “Orange Is the New Black” Season 7 (available July 26)
Why Should I Watch? Well, Season 7 marks the end of “Orange Is the New Black,” which either makes for a compelling argument to get caught up or a reasonable rationale to avoid it altogether. Speaking to the first point, Jenji Kohan’s landmark Netflix original has helped usher in a more diversified TV space, draw attention to a problematic prison system, and provide truckloads of Emmys to the very worthy Uzo Aduba. Toss in the fact it helped elevate more than a few key voices set to shape television’s future, including Stephen Falk (“You’re the Worst”) and S.J. Clarkson (who’s helming the upcoming “Game of Thrones” spinoff), and it’s been a significant series since it debuted in mid-2013. But it’s also a long series. Each season consists of 13 hour-long episodes, and the most recent entries have highlighted Netflix’s bloating problems.

The new Netflix series Russian Doll is the latest in the streaming giant's comedy arsenal. Following a woman who finds herself stuck reliving her 36th birthday party over and over - and dying at the end of every night - the series already has people buzzing. It turns out, though, that it shares quite a bit in common with its fellow Netflix comedy Orange Is the New Black: namely, several cast members!

Netflix's Russian Doll is the Natasha Lyonne showcase long in the waiting...and an interesting little sci-fi yarn to boot.

[This story contains spoilers from the entire sixth season of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black.]
Natasha Lyonne has some Orange Is the New Black fan fiction to share about season six.
After what proved to be a major growing-up season for her character Nicky Nichols, the recovering addict — along with viewers — heartbreakingly watched another one of Litchfield's own go down a familiarly hopeless path. Dayanara Diaz (played by Dascha Polanco), who is now facing a life in prison for a murder that only viewers know she didn't commit, becomes hooked on heroin.

Warning: Big spoilers for Orange Is the New Black season six below!
Season six of Orange Is the New Black ties up some lose ends but still leaves us with plenty of questions. Now that Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) has been released from Litchfield, my first thought when the credits rolled on the final episode was, "so, no more Piper?" The series could potentially move on without its leading lady (though she's become less and less important as more characters have taken the spotlight), but we suspect that we won't have to deal with that void. Here are ways that we could see Piper again.
She will visit her fiancée.
When Piper finds out that she is being released from Litchfield just the day before it happens, she can't get a smile on her face because that means she will be away from her fiancée, Alex Vause (Laura Prepon). The...

Alex Vause had a surprise up her sleeve in the Orange Is the New Black finale.
During the supersized, 84-minute season six episode, the Netflix prison dramedy paused its maximum security infighting so it could hold a secret prison wedding for Alex (Laura Prepon) and Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling). Alex — with officiant Nicky Nichols (Natasha Lyonne) and witness Lorna Morello (Yael Stone) in tow — planned the wedding Piper so desperately wanted to have before leaving Litchfield.

The stars of Orange Is the New Black have been in prison as their characters for five seasons with at least two more to go since the show has been renewed through season seven. As they've inhabited these skins, they've come to love certain aspects of their characters. "I've come to love Piper," Taylor Schilling told E! News ahead of the Orange Is the New Black season five premiere. "I love that she keeps trying, just like me." For Natasha Lyonne, her favorite thing about Nicky Nichols stems from the initial description of the character as a "junkie philosopher." "I always liked that description of her…I just liked the idea that she's a character that's...

After dropping out for close to a decade, Natasha Lyonne is finally at peace with her past. Now the Orange is the New Black star teams up with best friend Chloë Sevigny in the new horror shocker
If you’re going to watch anyone stumbling around a dump of a trailer while in the throes of a pus-oozing freak alien pregnancy, let it be Natasha Lyonne. In body-horror movie Antibirth, Lyonne is Lou, a wisecracking wastoid in ripped-up fishnets and shorts, living in her dead dad’s trailer, with Chloë Sevigny as her hard-partying sidekick. What’s wrong with her is unclear. Is she the subject of a government conspiracy, the victim of a blackmarket opioid gone wrong or simply the uterine host for a full-blown alien takeover? Who knows, in this big, trippy mess of a movie. But Lyonne, belly grossly distended with alien progeny ... well, she carries it.

Pregnancy can be challenging and scary for any young woman, but it’s even more frightening when you don’t know how you got pregnant. In the new body-horror comedy “Antibirth,” hard-partying stoner Lou (Natasha Lyonne) wakes up one morning to discover that she’s pregnant despite not having sex in over a year. Living in a small Michigan town, Lou and her best friend Sadie (Chloë Sevigny) try to discover how this could happen in a drug-addled haze, but when a mysterious stranger (Meg Tilly) raises the possibility of something otherworldly, it throws everyone for a loop. Suddenly, Lou starts to lose a grip on reality as the person (or thing) growing inside her begins to distort her mind. Watch the trailer below, courtesy of EW.

[Warning: This story contains spoilers from the first eight episodes of Orange Is the New Black season four.] After nearly an entire season without her, Orange Is the New Black brought a fan favorite back in a big way during its newly released fourth season. After disappearing from the Netflix prison dramedy during the beginning of season three, Nicky Nichols (Natasha Lyonne) returned in the fourth episode — a storyline that was kept under lock and key by everyone involved with the Jenji Kohan prison dramedy. "This is a real high-stakes Jon Snow situation I’m in: This whole year, I cannot

Can it possibly have been a whole year since we last shacked up in Litchfield Penitentiary, with its mattress-less bunks, garden shed full of secrets and Piper's panties-making empire? If you're like us, there's a good chance that you gulped down Season Three of Orange Is the New Black faster than you can say "Admiral Rodcocker." To say that Jenji Kohan's addictive prison comedy/drama is highly bingeable is a huge understatement; but the downside is that 12 months down the line, we're left with a hooch hangover and a...

Yes, that's really Nicky Nichols front and center in the pic above. "Orange Is the New Black" star Natasha Lyonne was flanked on the red carpet on Wednesday night by costars Yael Stone (Lorna, left) and Lea DeLaria (Big Boo, right) at the premiere of her new film, "Addicted to Fresno." All three women looked completely different than their imprisoned alter-egos, shining with some fresh faces, stylish clothes and big smiles. See more of the cast's wild transformations in the gallery above! While Lyonne still had her infamous mane, it looked cleaner and shinier than it appears on "Oitnb," where Natasha plays a recovering drug addict. For Stone, her red carpet look was definitely toned down in comparison with the red lip-lovin' Lorna ... while DeLaria looked comfortable in her denim, blazer and a polo. Fans of the Netflix series were left wondering what happened to Natasha's character after the events...

Orange Is the New Black season three was almost perfect...except for the fact that Nicky Nichols (Natasha Lyonne) was sent down the road to maximum security after getting blamed for heroin getting into Litchfield. After the first three episodes, fans didn't see her at all (sob!), leaving us all to wonder if she'd ever return to the show. During Orange Is the New Black's 2015 Summer TCA press tour panel, Lyonne fielded questions about her fate in season four like a pro, refusing to give any spoilers away to the room of reporters who wouldn't stop trying to get any hints about her future. "I feel a great deal of solidarity with the cast of Game of Thrones," she joked. When E! News caught up with...

With the recent amount of progress in the LGBT community, from Scotus making same-sex marriage a right to the Boy Scouts ending its ban on gay leaders, the castmembers of Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black spoke about how they’ve been on the cusp of this revolution.
Lea DeLaria, who plays Carrie “Big Boo” Black on the Netflix series, said today during the series TCA panel: “What we’ve done is a large part of the LGBT community getting rights, fighting for rights and achieving our rights. It’s been about winning the hearts and the minds of people, and Orange Is The New Black has been an important part of what has happened in our community.”
The openly gay comedienne shared a story with the TCA press corps of how her life has changed since Orange Is The New Black.

Going to the "max" isn't always a good thing, despite what your extreme sports-lovin' friend may say. Just ask Orange Is the New Black's Natasha Lyonne. Lyonne, who has played inmate Nicky Nichols on the Netflix dramedy, has left the cast as a series regular...if opening credits are to believed. The But I'm a Cheerleader star appeared in the opening credits for episodes one-three of the new season, but after her character—Spoiler Alert—was sent to the maximum security facility after hiding drugs in the electrical office in episode three, her name was removed in subsequent episodes. Being an inmate at Litchfield Penitentiary has never looked so Hot! "Orange Is the New Black" stars Taylor Schilling and Laura Prepon show some serious skin in the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine. Taylor swaps her orange jumpsuit for a semi-sheer white tank, which she wears without a bra, as her on-screen girlfriend rocks a denim button-down shirt with nothing underneath. In the accompanying article, Schilling and Prepon join costars Laverne Cox, Uzo Aduba, Natasha Lyonne, Dascha Polanco, Selenis Leyva as well as show creator, Jenji Kohan to talk about the success of the series. The famous TV inmates open up about landing their life-changing roles on the uber-popular Netflix show, after struggling to find other work. The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.
In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.
The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.
Here's where a new running feature comes into play:
As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...
