Noel Neill

Trivia

Noel Neill

Edit
  • She appeared with Betty Hutton in four films: Let's Face It (1943), Here Come the Waves (1944), Le club des cigognes (1945) and Sous le plus grand chapiteau du monde (1952).
  • A trained singer and dancer, before entering films she had a nightclub career, performing in such well-known Hollywood clubs as Ciro's, the Mocambo and the Trocadero.
  • Arguably the most prolific actor or actress in Superman's live-action legacy, she played Lois Lane in the two Superman serials, replaced Phyllis Coates as Lane in Superman (1952) during the second season, had a cameo in Superman (1978), guest-starred on Superboy (1988) and appears in Superman Returns (2006).
  • She appeared in two Best Picture Academy Award winners in consecutive years: Un Américain à Paris (1951) and Sous le plus grand chapiteau du monde (1952). Her Superman (1952) co-star George Reeves also appeared in two Best Picture winners: Autant en emporte le vent (1939) and Tant qu'il y aura des hommes (1953).
  • In her teens, she was a popular photographic model. While Betty Grable's pin-up was #1 among GIs during World War II, Neill ranked next. She worked as a professional singer and dancer, under contract to Bing Crosby.
  • Most famous for her role as reporter Lois Lane on Superman (1952), she actually came from a journalistic background--her father worked on the copy desk of the Minneapolis Star-Journal newspaper in Minneapolis, Minnesota for many years.
  • One of three actresses along with Phyllis Coates and Teri Hatcher to have played both Lois Lane and Lois Lane's mother. (1) Neill played Lois Lane in Superman (1948), Atom Man vs. Superman (1950) and Superman (1952), Coates played her in Superman et les nains de l'enfer (1951) and Superman (1952) and Hatcher played her in Lois & Clark : Les nouvelles aventures de Superman (1993) (2) Neill played Lois' mother Ellen Lane in Superman (1978), Coates played her in The House of Luthor (1994) and Hatcher played her in Abandoned (2010).
  • On June 6, 2012, she relocated back to Metropolis, Illinois after a successful recovery from hip surgery. At age 93, she was enjoying her peaceful retirement answering fan mail.
  • On July 23, 2010, she fell in her home in Tucson, Arizona and broke her hip. She was hospitalized for surgery at Tucson Medical Center.
  • She is the only actress to play Lois Lane in live-action opposite two different Superman actors.
  • Born on the exact same date as Ricardo Montalban.
  • Body Cremated and Ashes given to family or friend.
  • The only actress to play two different Lois Lane characters. The Lois she played in the serials is not the same Lois she played in the television series.
