Tall (6 feet 3 inches), heavy-set Italian stage and screen actor. Studied engineering in his teens. In films from 1935, he began as romantic leads, later graduating to character parts in costume dramas and neo-realist gangster films. Won a Silver Ribbon Award in 1947 for his role in Le Bandit (1946).

Father of actress Evelina Nazzari.

Nazzari was one of the leading figures of Italian classic cinema, often considered a local variant of the Australian-American star Errol Flynn.

Nazzari acted himself in Federico Fellini's Nights of Cabiria.

Although he emerged as a star during the Fascist era, Nazzari's popularity continued well into the post-war years.
