Happy 80th "workiversary," Mrs. Davis! This year marks Elisabeth Davis' 80th year as a secretary for Culver Academies, the famed prep school in Culver, Indiana. "I just like it!" Davis, 99, tells People of her historic employment at the boarding school. "Everybody over here is so good to me." Davis, who began working for Culver in 1936, started off assisting the school's dean by transcribing, taking shorthand notes and using a typewriter. And to this day, the 99-year-old foregoes a computer in favor of her beloved typewriter. "Even though they have a computer and Internet and all that stuff, you still need one hard copy!

When we think of the rise of the teen sex comedy in the current movie generation the focus easily moves to American Pie and maybe even Superbad. The brashness and move against being controlled by the ratings system pushed the boundaries of what could be included on-screen. Looking back to the eighties though there was a movie that arguably created the blueprint from which these films would work from. That film was Bob Clark’s Porky’s.
Set in 1954 we see a group of high school kids from Florida, trying to find the best way to get their friend Pee-Wee (Dan Monahan) laid, and finally “lose his cherry”. With a few disastrous failures under their belt,...

One gun rights supporter who took issue with a recent celebrity-filled gun control PSA has posted a now-viral video response that puts the spotlight on what he calls a “hypocritical industry.”
Late last month, Mayors Against Illegal Guns posted a video PSA on YouTube that featured a host of famous faces — including Jamie Foxx, Jon Hamm, Beyonce, Michelle Williams, and Amy Poehler – calling for stricter gun control laws, and it has, to date, received over 6.3 million views. Just days ago, YouTube user “Mike Hunt,” who declined to provide his real name and claims not to have any affiliations, posted his...

Last week, we pointed you to a PSA from Mayor Bloomberg's gun-control group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, in which the rich, famous, and pretty decried the need for stricter gun control (or something not quite specified). Some, like YouTube user Mike Hunt (ahem!), blame those very same people for perpetuating a culture of violence in the first place. In his own biting video response, he peppers in hyper-violent, trigger-happy footage against video of each celebrity wearing black and speaking in a hushed tone, respectively.

"Fifty Shades of Grey: a XXX Adaptation," from Smash Pictures and James Lane, is a porn adaptation of E. L. James' uber-popular novel that is in development at Universal. The studio is now suing the porn house for its "willful attempt to capitalize on the reputation of the book," to which Universal owns the movie rights (to the tune of $5 million). In La Weekly's quasi-review of the "XXX Adaptation," they assert:"While parodies are the only way adult film studios can make any money these days, making a 'Fifty Shades' version is truly the only way to put the three erotic novels on film in their Bdsm glory without MPAA censorship and film industry finger-wagging." Smash's Stuart Wall also points out that their version will stay "very true" to the book, whereas Universal will inevitably go mainstream. They have a point. But Universal bought the rights. THR has more.

Talk about cracking the legal whip! Fifty Shades Ltd., the original copyright holder of E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey, and Universal Pictures, which controls the movie rights, are suing the makers of a porn flick dubbed Fifty Shades of Grey: a XXX Adaptation, alleging they're violating the copyright and trademark on the best-selling trilogy and creating confusion in the marketplace. Per the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles and obtained by E! News, the plaintiffs claim Smash Pictures and adult video director James Lane, who's credited onscreen as Jim Powers, have engaged in a "willful attempt to capitalize on the reputation of the book." According to court docs, the studio and Fifty Shades...

The copyright owner of the mega-selling book, Fifty Shades of Grey, and Universal Studios, which owns movie rights, aren't happy with a porn film titled Fifty Shades of Grey: A XXX Adaptation. The El James novel published in 2011, followed by a pair of sequels, tells the steamy tale of a literature student who meets a young billionaire entrepreneur. The two characters can't resist each other. Erotic passions ensue. There's even some bondage. A natural porn film? Smash Pictures and director James Lane (aka Jim Powers) evidently thought so. But the makers of Fifty Shades of Grey: A XXX

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception) is hell on two wheels in the action movie Premium Rush.
Gordon-Levitt plays Wilee, a bike messenger on the brutal New York City streets who’s known for getting his packages across town in record time. But after he’s requested to get a package to its destination by a strict deadline, he’s chased by a corrupt cop (Michael Shannon, TV’s Boardwalk Empire: Season 1) who will stop at nothing to intercept it.
War of the Worlds writer David Koepp co-wrote the screenplay for Premium Rush along with John Kamps (Ghost Town), and Koepp also served as director for the thriller film.
Despite good reviews, PG-13-rated Premium Rush grossed $20 million in theaters, lower than other movies of the same kind. Which is a surprise. The fast-paced film was called “hyper-adrenalized entertainment...

The second week of live performances on "The Voice" (Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Et on NBC) wasn't exactly riveting, but, as Carson Daly states at the start of the episode, we can count on Cee Lo "arguably one of the best performers in the world" to jazz things up.
And he does, putting stilts, light-up masks and shirtless Egyptians in his team's performances. Also, Purrfect reemerged, happily disproving our theory that she was used to make Cee Lo's wig last week.
Too dark for you? Just wait for Christina Aguilera to tear into Tony Lucca and for Tony Vincent's performance.

Gold, a series about the trials and tribulations of a group of La-based pen and paper tabletop gamers, has always been a labor of love. Beginning as a screenplay by actor/creator David Nett (Gold, The Adventures of Justin and Alden), Andrew Deutsch and Nett teamed up to adapt the script to a web series. Continuing their day jobs, where Deutsch revealed is where they met and began their "nerd war" (Deutsch admits that Nett would win), and casting talented friends, Gold went on to nominations in both the first and second annual Streamy Awards and the two creators are now expanding the universe the show exists in with Night of the Zombie King. Based on the popular character Jaz (leader of the Dangerous Gamers from Gold Season 1, episode 4), who is played by the talented James Lane (The Ballad of Mary and Ernie), Night of the Zombie King takes place...

It's not often that I get the opportunity to attend a screening of a web series and find myself greeted with fresh-baked cookies and Earl Grey tea. It's even less common when the series I'm about to screen is a raunchy Western comedy where more than half the characters are played by plastic toys. But this is exactly what happened when I traveled to Laser Pacific Laboratories in Hollywood to get a sneak peak at The Ballad of Mary and Ernie. Written, produced, and directed by Robert Stadd, The Ballad of Mary and Ernie is the story of a big sheriff in a small town. And that is meant literally...Ernie is about 50 feet taller than almost everyone, including his fiancee, Nan, who will do just about anything to keep her giant cowboy to herself. But then Mary Venezuala comes to town and saves Ernie from an evil gunslinger. Oh,...

If the Hollywood Reporter as I have known it for more than 60 years is gone, it must be noted that three of its recent editorial heads were among the finest in its history. In fact, they are among the finest in the annals of Hollywood coverage. Yes, I'm alluding to Elizabeth Guider, Alex Ben Block and Robert Dowling.
Other top-notch Hollywood Reporter heads included Tichi Wilkerson, Frank Barron, Don Gillette, Jim Powers, Howard Burns and Hal Bates. Its memorable daily columnists included Mike Connolly, Herb Stein, Jim Henagan, Robert Osborne and Hank Grant.
