Jude Law Says HBO's Harry Potter Show Ended Fantastic Beasts Franchise
Image
After the unsurprising news that the Fantastic Beasts franchise is seemingly over after three films, Dumbledore himself, Jude Law, has offered up a very possible explanation. While the spinoff film finds itself in an indefinite limbo, Warner Bros. is hard at work finding their new young wizards for the upcoming Harry Potter reboot for HBO. According to Law, who is currently set to lead his own Star Wars show for Disney+, Fantastic Beasts is now done for due to WB's commitment to the aforementioned television series.

During an interview with Variety, Law was asked about the future of the Fantastic Beasts franchise after Eddie Redmayne revealed The Secrets of Dumbledore was the last time audiences would see his character, Newt Scamander. The disappointing update (for some at least) is now backed up by the Dumbledore actor, who reveals that he has not heard anything about future installments. He joined...

Fantastic Beasts Star Eddie Redmayne Offers Update on the Harry Potter Franchise
Image
Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne has offered a disappointing update on the future of the Fantastic Beasts saga. Speaking with Comicbook.com about his upcoming thriller series The Day of the Jackal, Redmayne revealed that, in his opinion, we will not see his quirky Magizoologist Newt Scamander on the big screen again.

I think they probably have [seen the last of Newt]. That was a very frank answer, but yeah. And thats as far as I know. I mean, youd have to speak to the people at Warner Bros. and J.K Rowling, but as far as I know, thats it. I think he may come back in a glimpse in the Universal world in Florida that theyre opening up, in which you may catch a glimpse of what he was up to in Paris.

Beginning with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them back in 2016, the franchise explores an unseen era of the Wizarding World,...

Scene 2 Seen Podcast: Saul Williams & Anisia Uzeyman Discuss ‘Neptune Frost’ And Their Harsh Experience At The Cannes Film Festival
Image
Welcome to another episode of the Scene 2 Seen Podcast! It’s your host Valerie Complex and I am back with another exciting episode.

This week, I talk to Neptune Frost co-directors American poet, musician, and actor Saul Williams, and actress, playwright Anisia Uzeyman. Frost had its world premiere last summer in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2021, before screening at Toronto and NYFF during fall of last year.

The film takes place amid the hilltops of Burundi, where a collective of computer hackers emerges from a mining community, the result of a romance between a miner and an intersex runaway. Set between states of being—past and present, dream and waking life, colonized and free, male and female, memory and prescience—Neptune Frost is a call to reclaim technology for progressive political ends. The film offers an amalgamation of many of the themes, ideas and songs...

“Fantastic Beasts 3” will be streaming on HBO Max next week, the streamer announced on Monday.

As expected, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” will be available to all HBO Max subscribers 45 days after it first hit theaters, landing on the streaming service on May 30.

The third installment in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise delves deeper into the backstory of Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) all the while the evil Gellert Grindelwald (now played by Mads Mikkelsen in a recasting following Johnny Depp’s exit) amasses his forces.

Unable to stop Grindelwald alone, Dumbledore entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?

‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ Ending Explained: A Wizardly Duel and a Romantic Reunion (or Three)
Eddie Redmayne
The third “Fantastic Beasts” film, “The Secrets of Dumbledore” has started casting its spell.

From the first film filling us in on magizoologist Newt Scamander’s (Eddie Redmayne) background to the second film showing us everything we need to know about evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald (at the time played by Johnny Depp), this third film serves as the strongest prequel yet. In muggle history, World War II is approaching, but Gellert Grindelwald (now played by Mads Mikkelsen) has a different focus, becoming President of the Confederation of Magic so that he can see his magical form of fascism through.

At the beginning of the film, Dumbledore (Jude Law) asks Newt to assemble a motley crew who will are given the intimidating task of confusing Grindelwald, who now has access to visions of the future thanks to his brutal slaying of a qilin, an adorable Bambi-like deer creatures which are some...

J.K. Rowling at an event for Harry Potter et les Reliques de la Mort : partie 1 (2010)
How to Watch ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’: When Is the Wizarding World Movie Streaming?
J.K. Rowling at an event for Harry Potter et les Reliques de la Mort : partie 1 (2010)
It all started with The Boy Who Lived in June 1997. J.K. Rowling’s magical series took off from there, and it wasn’t until 2007 that all seven books in the series could be read consecutively without waiting for the next release.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first film released in 2002, and the “Fantastic Beasts” film franchise has taken the timeline even further, serving as a prequel to Harry’s time at Hogwarts. Focusing on big names in Harry’s world like Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore, the “Fantastic Beasts” movies develop some backstory to Voldemort’s predecessor Gellert Grindelwald as well.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is not finished yet! The third “Fantastic Beasts” film is now out, so here’s how to watch “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.”

When Does “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” Premiere?

This “Fantastic Beasts 3” first opened into theaters Friday,...

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022) review: The Wizarding World’s magic has unmistakably faded
Eddie Redmayne
I think it is fair to say that the Fantastic Beasts series is no Harry Potter, and this latest instalment is the greyest, dullest and most missable and confused entry in The Wizarding World to date. Off the back of the polarising The Crimes of Grindelwald and amidst numerous cast and crew controversies, this franchise needed a huge spell with The Secrets of Dumbledore, instead what we have is a film that signifies a saga limping to the end, as it forgets all it was and has no idea what it wants to be next.

The film catches up with Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he is now very much part of the fight against the oncoming threat posed by the dastardly and powerful Grindelwald. However, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) is still bound by a past promise, but as Grindelwald’s message and reach grows, he must help form a...

Movie Review: Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
Image
Whatever criticisms can be leveled against Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, it must be said that Mads Mikkelsen is a massive upgrade from Johnny Depp.

Depp portrayed the series’ main villain, the wizard Gellert Grindelwald, in the first and second films, contributing nothing to the franchise other than a prickly mustache and god-awful haircut. He was replaced by Mikkelsen after the actor’s personal woes became public knowledge.

There’s no on-screen explanation given for why the franchise’s main baddie suddenly looks so different when he appears in the first scene in The Secrets of Dumbledore, nor is one needed. Within five minutes, Mikkelsen brings swagger, seductiveness, and cool menace to a character who’d been a cartoon cypher in two previous films.

‘Secrets of Dumbledore’ Proves These Potterverse Prequels Are Not So-Secretly Duds

[Inhales] Ok, right, so when last we left Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), the socially awkward magical zoologist renowned as a scholar of fantastic beasts (and not coincidentally, where to find them!), he was preparing — along with Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law), hot-for-teacher Hogwarts’ hunk and future Harry Potter mentor — to take on the evil wizard/ex-Dumbledore lover Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen), as well as Grindelwald’s partners in crime Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller) and Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), a New Yawk-accented witch who you might remember converted to the dark side in order to save her soulmate,...

‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore’ Eyeing 50M+ In Early Offshore Reveal – International Box Office Preview
Image
Warner Bros’ Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is releasing ahead of domestic in 22 international box office markets this weekend, beginning in Holland and Belgium on Wednesday and including the UK, Australia, Germany, Japan, Spain and China through Friday. The latter, unfortunately, is not expected to serve up any magic given significant cinema closures.

Currently, estimates for the early offshore release are in the mid-50 million range. That’s down compared to the previous two films in the Wizarding World spinoff series. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in like-for-like markets and at today’s rates opened to 120M and 115M, respectively. Those films had gone out in a November corridor and played into Christmas, finaling at 580M and 495M internationally.

Again, China is a big drag this time around; the market contributed about a third of the opening grosses on the earlier movies.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore – It Can End Here
Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Dan Fogler, William Nadylam, Alison Sudol, Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Claudia Kim, Zoë Kravitz, Ezra Miller, and Callum Turner in Les Animaux fantastiques : Les Crimes de Grindelwald (2018)
Following the Wizarding World Universe canon seems to be a complicated thing, especially when the author of said universe is constantly changing it. The last film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald seemed to throw out everything audiences knew about the history of the Harry Potter universe and created a mess as a result. Though there are still a lot of canonical problems, The Secrets of Dumbledore does try to right some wrongs by finally answering questions lingering for fans—including about Credence’s (Eza Miller) family history, Queenie’s (Alison Sudol) sudden heel turn, and who is Jessica Williams’ character we randomly saw instructing the immortal wizard Nicolas Flamel in the last movie?

Set prior to the events of World War II, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore finds Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) and Grindelwald (now Mads Mikkelsen) attempting to mediate Grindelwald’s plans to overthrow the Muggle world.

'Good Funk' Official Trailer: A Polyrhythm About Shadows & Kindness
William Nadylam
"I know you don't need me anymore, but I need you. You're all I've got." 1091 Pictures has released a new official trailer for the indie experimental feature film titled Good Funk, self-described as "a polyrhythm about shadows & kindness." This originally premiered back in 2016 at the Sidewalk Film Festival, and also played at the RiverRun Film Festival in 2017. It's only now finally getting an official VOD release years later. The product of an unprecedented film program in NYC, Good Funk tells the story of three generations of Brooklynites whose lives intersect through acts of kindness. The program recruited young Brooklynites to learn filmmaking craft, share their stories and collaborate for pay on a feature film production. "The result is a portrait of love enduring and a testament to discovering family in unexpected places" - lives intersecting through acts of kindness in a Brooklyn neighborhood on the verge on gentrification. This indie film stars William Nadylam,...

Mads Mikkelsen at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Mads Mikkelsen has been confirmed to replace Johnny Depp in the third installment of 'Fantastic Beasts.'

Warner Bros. reportedly confirmed on Wednesday (Nov.25) that the Danish actor has been cast as the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming sequel.

Mikkelsen, who currently stars in the Danish film 'Another Round' stepped in to fill the role after Johnny Depp left the franchise earlier this month following his unsuccessful libel trial against The Sun.

The announcement comes after the studio reportedly asked the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star to stand down after losing his libel trial, which reportedly concluded that he assaulted his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The court has also ordered Johnny Depp to make an initial payment of almost £630,000 for its legal fees to the publisher of the Sun, reports BBC.

Depp, 57, essayed the role of Grindelwald in 2016's 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them...

Here's How Kama Yusuf's Tragic Backstory Ties Into Fantastic Beasts 2
William Nadylam
True Potterheads know that the magical world has never been short on tragic drama or the portrayal of grayness between good and evil. In The Crimes of Grindelwald, there's a mysterious wizard who embodies both so deeply, someone who acts by his own set of rules and motivations as Grindelwald's rise calls for people to choose sides. Enter Yusuf Kama (William Nadylam). At first glance, he appears to be a French Auror or Ministry employee tracking down Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller). But, of course, he has painfully personal stakes in finding the powerful Obscurial. For the prequel lore-obsessed, here's a brief rundown on Yusuf's thorny past and his relationship to the Lestrange family.

We first meet the French-African wizard when he spots Tina at a circus and tells her that he too is looking for Credence. But his intentions aren't so noble in reaching out to her, and he locks...

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Review
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald is a labyrinthine land of confusion that swaps aforementioned roving “beasts” with far too many knotted and exhausting plot beats. The only “crime” here is dragging viewers through a most trivial midway adventure between more important films for over two hours. So many innocent deaths to prove a point, so much running in fairy-dust-specked circles like a hyperactive Niffler. Characters waltz in-and-out of importance and consequence until storylines become muddled into an undefinable sludge that abruptly concludes with an eradication colored by ice and fire. It’s cheap, massively manipulative, and entirely powered by an egotistical realization that Harry Potter fans will praise whatever Newt’s second round brings.

After destroying half of New York City, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) finds himself banned from international travel. His only hope at reinstated freedoms is to enlist alongside brother Theseus (Callum Turner) as an Auror. Newt refuses to “take sides,...

New Fantastic Beasts 2 Featurette Highlights The Harry Potter Connections
The latest featurette for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald takes the opportunity to show us a few of the ways that Fantastic Beasts connects to the Harry Potter franchise, which is what started all of us on this exciting magical adventure. I also included a new international trailer.

This is actually a pretty cool promo and it pointed out a couple of things that I didn’t notice before, so it might be worth two and a half minutes of your time to check out. Jude Law teased in the video:

“This wizarding world that J.K. Rowling’s created is so rich and vast from Harry Potter to Fantastic Beasts. There are so many connections between characters and storylines, past and present, and so many secrets yet to be revealed.”

It’ll be fun looking for the connections in the upcoming films. Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming...

J.R.R. Tolkien
Film Review: ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’
J.R.R. Tolkien
To start with, some credit where it’s due: In the nearly half century since the death of J.R.R. Tolkien, no writer of the English language has created a more pliable, tangible, and livable fantasy world than J.K. Rowling. And save for Peter Jackson’s sojourns to Middle Earth, no recent filmmaker has put in a more tireless shift translating such literary plenitude into comprehensible feature films than David Yates, who corralled the mammoth last three “Harry Potter” tomes into four hugely satisfying blockbusters and put a decent foot forward with the first of five planned prequels, 2016’s uneven yet promising “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

Unfortunately, even the most meticulous world-building is only half the journey; you still have to populate that world with real characters and compelling stories, and it’s that second half of the equation that comes up missing in “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Warner Bros. has released a new featurette and three clips from director David Yates’ Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

The featurette puts the spotlight on Jude Law’s version of young Dumbledore. I was happy to see Law cast in the role and he’s been great in everything that we’ve seen from him in the film. This movie will explore what made the man that the fans all love and this video includes interviews with several members of the cast and crew sharing their thoughts on the iconic character.

You’ll also find three clips from the film including an extended scene that includes Albus Dumbledore tasking Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) with finding the recently escaped Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp). The second clips offers a scene involving Newt and Tina Goldstein was captured by MacUsa (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But,...

But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Final Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald Trailer Ignites a Dark Wizard War
Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Dan Fogler, William Nadylam, Alison Sudol, Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Claudia Kim, Zoë Kravitz, Ezra Miller, and Callum Turner in Les Animaux fantastiques : Les Crimes de Grindelwald (2018)
The final trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is here. Warner Bros. hyped up the arrival of this new footage for fans and, as promised, they delivered what will be our final big look at the upcoming entry in the wizarding world. This looks like it's going to seriously up the stakes when compared to the first Fantastic Beasts, with the nefarious Grindelwald assembling a following who plan on shaking things up in a dangerously magical way. But not if Newt and Dumbledore have anything to say about it.

This is the first trailer we've seen since the full-length Fantastic Beasts 2 trailer made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con. As one would expect, the studio is putting a lot behind this movie. Even though it doesn't feature Harry Potter in the name, this is part of one of the most successful franchises of all-time. Not just cinematically, but looking at book sales and,...

Johnny Depp at an event for Waiting for the Barbarians (2019)
Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday during the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald portion of Warner Bros.' panel in character as the evil wizard Grindelwald. For the majority of the presentation for the highly-anticipated wizarding world sequel, Johnny Depp wasn't on stage and most in the crowd assumed that he simply was too busy to turn up at the event. However, toward the end of the showcase, he walked out on stage in full Grindelwald gear and delivered a speech in character.

Not only did we get a fantastic Fantastic Beasts 2 Comic-Con trailer, we also got this unforgettable moment in Hall H. The speech delivered by Johnny Depp focuses on the "good of humanity." But really, it's just a classic villain's point of view monologue, ultimately about how a lot of people are going to suffer for what he perceives to be the greater good.
