Eric Cantona to Star in ‘Giant With Feet of Clay’ About Sexual Abuse in Sports

French soccer player-turned-actor Eric Cantona (“Looking for Eric”) is set to star in “Giant With Feet of Clay” (“Le Colosse aux pieds d’argile”), a television drama about sexual harassement and abuse in sports.

The movie is about to start shooting in Southwestern France with French director Stéphanie Murat; and is being produced by Sydney Gallonde’s Make It Happen Studio and Tetra Media Studio (“Paris Police 1900”).

Aude Marcle penned the script which is loosely based on the true story of Sébastien Boueilh, who penned the book “Le Colosse aux pieds d’argile” with Thierry Vildary. The timely movie has been commissioned by French TV network TF1 which is also co-producing.

Paris-based company unveils first details on new slate for Cannes Pre-screenings and Marché du Film.

Charades has boarded sales on Laurent Tirard’s new comedy Oh My Goodness! and plans to launch pre-sales at the upcoming online Cannes Pre-screenings in June and physical Marché du Film in July.

It revolves around five nuns who set their sights on winning the cash prize in a major cycling race to raise money to renovate a dilapidated hospice. The only hitch is that none of them can ride a bicycle but they are counting instead on God working in mysterious ways.

‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’

February 5 Update: Maze Runner: The Death Cure brought in a $35.5m to reach $143.2m, while Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle crossed $850m worldwide, and Coco became Pixar’s seventh title to cross $700m worldwide.

Updated: Maze Runner: The Death Cure opened in Mexico on $3.1m, Germany on $2.5m, and Italy on $1.4m, while China generated $4.9m for $37.2m after two weekends.

A further $1.8m in the UK boosted the tally for The Death Cure to $5.8m after two, while in other second sessions, $1.9m in Russia propelled the film to $7.5m, and $1.4m in Indonesia resulted in $4.9m.

The Greatest Showman added $16.2m for $153.1m. It debuted in China through Bona on $7.4m, and grossed $2.9m in the UK for $31.3m after six sessions. A number one Philippines debut delivered $848,000.

Lonely Hearts: Sautet’s Elegant Final Film on Passionate Restraint

Winning Best Director as well as Best Actor for Michel Serrault at the 1995 Cesars, Nelly & Monsieur Arnaud would stand as the final film of director Claude Sautet. The achingly rendered central relationship makes for a curious case study in the deep emotional undercurrents exchanged between two people unable to properly communicate their actual feelings, and as is typical of many Sautet films, it’s a master class of finely attenuated performances. It was the second collaboration of Sautet and the beautiful Emmanuelle Beart (had he lived, she would have taken the muse role occupied by Romy Schneider in his earlier filmography), following 1991’s A Heart in Winter, a title many champion as the director’s masterpiece, and the one that tends to overshadow their second outing.
