Zak Penn is no stranger to superheroes. As the co-creator of Syfy‘s Alphas, scripter of X-Men: The Last Stand (we won’t hold that one against him), and a writing credit for this summer’s Avengers he’s fairly comfortable with adapting comic book paradigms for other mediums. But how will his ideas fair in the panel?

Deadline reports that Penn will launch into his first foray into comics under Avatar Press this July with Hero Worship, a six issue arc that follows superhero Zenith, an indestructible do-gooder with an overzealous fan club that often put themselves into danger just to catch a glimpse of their idol. One fan’s obsession eventually leads to the development of superpowers. Hero Worship will be co-written by Scott Murphy (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) with art by Michael Dipascale (Lady Death).

Deadline reports that Zak Penn - who has scripted comic book movies such as The Incredible Hulk, Elektra, and will receive a story-by credit for Marvel's The Avengers - is launching his own comic series via Avatar Press. The series, called Hero Worship, will launch in July. Penn will co-write the six issue series with Scott Murphy (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and the issues will be drawn by Michael Dipascale. It centers on Zenith, a character described as "an indestructible hero who has legions of fans following every disaster, trying to catch a glimpse of the ultimate celebrity and risking their own lives in the process. Watching The Clone Wars carries an element of Greek tragedy to it: The average Star Wars fan cannot help but feel a slight twist in the gut while viewing the adventures of characters for whom the future is already written. And not too pleasantly, either.

But the beauty of being a science fiction fan has always been the requirement of that magical quality known as “suspension of disbelief.” The Star Wars stories are the popular, modern, American version of Norse mythology, and the audience knows full well that the Gods must eventually fall. But before Gotterdammerung (or Ragnarok if you wish) occurs, we get the siren song of high adventure.

And so it is with the opening of The Clone Wars’ second season two-part premiere “Rise of the Bounty Hunters” (which aired October 2 on Cartoon Network). On the orders of Darth Sidious, Cad Bane infiltrates the Jedi Temple and steals a Holocron.

Variety reports that Platinum Studios and producer Tony Krantz (24) are going to develop a live-action feature from the Platinum Studios graphic novel Mal Chance.

Scott Murphy will be writing the screenplay.

The graphic novel follows Lola, she is part of an ancient clan of assassins that are targeted for death by a powerful gangster. So she decides to take down the gangster's entire operation and enlists an honest FBI agent who has no idea who she is.

Krantz described the project as a "wonderfully visual world steeped with contemporary and complex characters, all playing on the edge of life and death decisions.
