10 Great Horror TV Shows Recommended By Stephen King
Image
Stephen King is a horror genre staple, and he often recommends TV shows or movies that he enjoys. He's best known for iconic horror novels such as The Shining and It, and has remained in the public spotlight for his books and adaptations of his work. Stephen King even has another book on the way, continuing a legacy that has scared readers for decades.

Because of his reputation in the horror genre, many trust his recommendations for different works, whether they be novels, TV shows, or even films. The genres of his recommendations often vary, but horror still seems to be the most consistent. Though many of King's books could still use sequels, his recommended shows such as Cabinet of Curiosities and Midnight Mass will have to do in the meantime.

10 Best Characters From Evil
Image
The following contains spoilers for Evil, now streaming on Netflix and Paramount+Evil's best characters range from the heroic to the demonic, all filtered through the show's unique blend of character drama, unexpected comedy, and grim horror. Evil focuses on a group of "Assessors," tasked with the Church to investigate potential demonic forces operating on Earth. The procedural nature of the show allowed for almost every episode to have stand-alone qualities, even as it expanded the universe and explored the grim backstories of the central heroes.

One of the things that makes the show such a compelling watch (to the point where Stephen King was a vocal champion of Evil) is the attention paid to the show's central cast of characters. There are plenty of classic horror archetypes in the show's cast, but they're all given unexpected shades that make them uniquely compelling. These edges elevate the series into a fantastic show.

'Too Late to Save the Show': Evil Creators Address Renewed Popularity From Netflix Streaming
Image
Evil recently wrapped up its run after four seasons, disappointing fans who felt there was still a lot of potential to keep going with the series. Though the show has ended, its fan base continues to grow as more viewers find the series on streaming, but the downside may be that these fans didn't discover the series quickly enough to save it.

Series creators Michelle King and Robert King spoke about Evil during an interview with Screen Rant at New York Comic Con. While Michelle is thrilled that appreciation for the series continues to grow, Robert admitted that it's a bit disappointing that this surge in popularity couldn't have happened just one year earlier. He went on to suggest that it's probably too late at this point for the increased popularity to get the series a renewal, but at the same time, Robert noted that a revival wouldn't be impossible.

Why Was Evil Canceled & Do We Need a Season 5?
Image
Quick Links Was the Evil Series Finale Rushed? Evil Left Some Doors Open for a Fifth Season

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Evil After four seasons, the supernatural crime drama Evil came to a close this past August with a series finale that left fans wanting more. Often praised for its creative uniqueness among television shows, Evil deftly combined an exploration of faith and possession with the inherent evil that exists in the choices of man. The series' cancelation was announced in February, with Paramount+ announcing that the creators would be given just four additional episodes to wrap up the series. While fans may be disappointed with the strings left untied, this uncertain representation of finality is a rough though worthwhile ending to the series that speaks to the lingering question of what creates evil.

Starring Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Katja Herbers (Westworld), and Aasif Mandvi (A Series of Unfortunate Events...

What The Smile Horror Movie Monster Looks Like In Real Life
Image
Parker Finn's 2022 horror film "Smile" has a novel premise and a monster that is difficult to describe. The film begins when the lead character, a therapist named Rose (Sosie Bacon), has a strange encounter with a student, Laura (Caitlin Stasey). Laura is in a panic, having spent several day beset by hallucinations. She has been seeing people she knows appearing out of nowhere and grinning at her fiendishly. She knows these people are, in fact, a singular shapeshifting demon of some kind, and it is encouraging her to die by suicide. Then, as she predicted, Laura also pastes on a bleak, intense smile, and slits her throat right in front of Rose.

Rose soon begins experiencing similar hallucinations, wherein people she knows appear in her mind's eye, all of them wearing a scary rictus. Rose soon discovers that the grinning entity is an ancient supernatural creature that feeds on trauma.

There's Something Evil About That Pirate In The Mandalorian Season 3 Premiere
Image
This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 1, "The Apostate."

In the same way Daniel Craig made a stealth cameo as a Stormtrooper in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "The Mandalorian" has already featured more than one famous guest star who went unrecognizable because of costuming or makeup. This goes back to the series premiere when comedian and former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Horatio Sanz played Mando's first bounty, the blue alien Mythrol. The season 3 premiere also sneaks in "Sweet Tooth" star Nonso Anozie as the seaweed-headed pirate king, Gorian Shard. Even Din Djarin himself, voiced by Anozie's fellow "Game of Thrones" alum Pedro Pascal, spends most of the series under a helmet. The very removal of that helmet gets him excommunicated from the Way of the Mandalore, hence the episode title, "The Apostate."

Because of how often his face is buried under prosthetics, it might be...

Sophie Turner Is "So Down" to Play Boy George, and Honestly, We're Here For It
A biopic of Boy George's life is currently in production, and the Culture Club singer has been presented with plenty of suggestions as to who might play him in the movie. But it seems he's particularly enamored with "one of the most interesting suggestions," Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner.

Related: Jic You're Wondering: Sophie Turner's Hidden Talent Includes Being Super "Bendy"

In an interview on the Australian radio show Fitzy & Wippa, Boy George said he loved the fact that the suggestion might upset people a bit. "'Oh she can't play you, she's a woman!' [But] when I was 17, I would have loved to be her! That was the ambition!" He explained. It has to be said, when you look at pictures of the two of them, you can see why people have drawn comparisons, especially around the eyes and cheekbones. And it looks like Sophie sees it too.

Which Regional Musicals Might Be Coming To Broadway?
Many a Broadway musical spent time at a regional theater to iron out the wrinkles; current Broadway smash “Kinky Boots” had a well-received run in Chicago last year. Not every out-of-town production finds its way to a New York City premiere, but here is a roundup of regional shows to keep an eye on. “Being Earnest” This TheatreWorks production—playing in Mountain View, Calif.—boasts an impressive cast. Based on Oscar Wilde’s comedy “The Importance of Being Earnest” but set in swinging ’60s London, the production stars Tony and Olivier Award nominee Euan Morton, Hayden Tee, and Maureen McVerry. The music was co-written by Emmy nominee Jay Gruska and Tony nominee Paul Gordon; Gordon also penned the book and lyrics. The production, which opened April 6, is slated to run through April 28. Casting by Leslie Martinson. “Fly by Night” The New York City blackout of 1965 provides the backdrop for this...

Review: My Dog Tulip
This is the Pure Movies review of My Dog Tulip, directed by Paul Fierlinger and Sandra Fierlinger, and starring Christopher Plummer, Lynn Redgrave, Isabella Rossellini, Peter Gerety, Brian Murray, Paul Hecht and Euan Morton. You could be forgiven for forgetting that animation was all done by hand in the days before the Toy Story/Shrek phenomena digitised everything to Infinity and Far Far Away in 3D. This charming film based on J.R.Ackerley’s memoir about his dog Tulip is nostalgic, and quaint, with beautiful hand-drawn characterisations that are without the colourful polish we have become used to. All the more delightful as a result, the experience watching My Dog Tulip is very like being read to - the cinema equivalent of being cosied up next to a warm fire drinking hot chocolate on a cold autumn evening.

Ackerley -- a gay man beyond his days of cruising for dates -- finds Tulip to be his ideal companion; in fact, during their 14 years together, Tulip turns out to be the one true love of Ackerley’s life. Comedic King Lear and Jack Bauer Clone - Audiobook Reviews
Title: Fool, by Christopher Moore Genre: Burlesque Shakespeare Length: 8 1/2 Hrs - 7 Cds - Unabridged Narrator: Euan Morton Publisher: Harper Audio Comment Author Christopher Moore is an acquired comic taste. He's irreverent, absurdist, farcical, ludicrous, deeply bawdy and often funny. Of his 10 bent novels, he has re-imagined Jesus, vampires and angels. This time it's King Lear, as told through the eyes of his cheeky and priapic jester, Pocket. Moore's plots are not the primary sell. Fool roughly follows Lear and his dysfunctional daughters but through a glass contorted. Moore's sell is his Pythonesque-meets-Austin-Powers dialogue and descriptors, delivered on these CDs with sly British sincerity and skill by Euan Morton. Moore so understands what he's delivering that he issues a warning to listeners at the top saying, "This...

Tony Nominations for 'Taboo'
This year's Tony Awards shortlist has honored Boy George's shunned musical Taboo, despite the devastating reviews and financial problems encountered by the production. The Rosie O'Donnell-produced stage spectacular failed to capture the American imagination when it relocated from London's West End to Broadway last year. But Taboo garnered an impressive four nominations when the shortlist was revealed yesterday, including Best Score for Boy George and Best Actor in a Musical for leading man Euan Morton. Other big name nominees include X-Men star Hugh Jackman, nominated in the Best Lead Actor In A Musical category for his portrayal of Liza Minnelli's gay ex-husband Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz. Musical Wicked, which tells the Wizard Of Oz story from the witch's perspective, leads the pack with ten nominations, closely followed by Steven Sondheim's musical Assassins and the Lincoln Center's production of Henry IV. The Tony awards will be given out at a glitzy ceremony in New York on June 6.
