    Started as an actor in stock companies and first appeared on screen in 'Having a Wonderful Time' in 1937. Acted on stage in 'Golden Boy' and 'Margin for Error'. He had a hit with his play 'The Wooden Dish' in 1954, primarily in London, though it also had a short run on Broadway. His best known screenplay was 'Walk on the Wild Side' in 1962, thereafter mostly television work. During the 1970s, he collaborated with Jose Ferrer on several theatrical productions in New York, as well as teaching play writing. He was also an associate professor of theatre arts at the University of Denver.
