In 2012, with her Happy Days - Les jours heureux (1974) co-stars Anson Williams, Marion Ross, Don Most, and the widow of Tom Bosley, she sued CBS and Paramount for $10 million, claiming they never received merchandise royalties they were owed under their contracts. The case was settled out of court.

Actress Susan Neher was the original Joanie Cunningham in Love and the Happy Days/Love and the Newscasters (1972), which was basically the pilot for Happy Days - Les jours heureux (1974). Moran eventually took the role of Joanie, at the request of Anson Williams, who had worked with her in Lisa, Bright and Dark (1973).

Her acting mentor was Tom Bosley.
