Planet of the Vampires
Image
There’s no getting around it — Mario Bava’s one space opera is now confirmed as a classic. Barry Sullivan and Norma Bengell must oppose invisible aliens that possess the corpses of their fellow space men. Bava’s ‘gothic’ Haunted Planet recipe just adds more weird colored lights and swirling fog to his supernatural Gothic formula. The designs are excellent and the results unique, from the odd spacecraft to the kinky costumes. The show is also genuinely influential, as should be well known to every fan of more modern sci-fi / horror films. The new HD remaster is an improvement, too!

Worldwide semiconductor revenue up 5.4% in 2020: Idc
Image
San Francisco, Feb 3 (Ians) Despite the impact of Covid-19 on the global economy, worldwide semiconductor revenue grew to $442 billion in 2020, an increase of 5.4 per cent compared to 2019, said a new report from International Data Corporation (Idc).

The market for semiconductors in computing systems, such as PCs and servers, outpaced the overall semiconductor market, growing 10.9 per cent year over year to $152 billion in 2020, said the report.

The semiconductor market will reach $476 billion in 2021, a 7.7 per cent year-over-year growth rate as the various Covid-19 vaccines are disseminated and economies begin to open and gradually recover, according to a forecast by Idc.

"The nature of the recovery will depend upon how quickly government stimulus plans stabilize the global macroeconomy and consumer confidence improves as vaccinations roll out around the world," said Mario Morales, Program Vice President, Enabling Technologies and Semiconductors at Idc, in a statement.

"There are specific markets that remain on an...

Ricardo Montalban 1920-2009
Most remember him for his role as Mr. Roarke on "Fantasy Island" and as Khan Noonien Singh in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" but throughout his life, Ricardo Montalban worked to create a place for Latino actors in America. The Mexican-born Montalban had already created a name for himself in Mexican cinema when he successfully crossed over to the Us in 1947 as bullfighter, Mario Morales, in "Fiesta." From then, he went on to build up an extensive resume in film, theater and television. In 1975 he became the face of the Chrysler Cordoba when he starred in their television ad campaign.<param name="movie" ...
