5 Movies to Watch Before They Leave Netflix in September
Image
A lot of stellar movies are about to vanish from Netflix in September.

There are a few film classics from the last decade making their exit from the streamer at the beginning of September, but there is still some time to sneak in a watch. Denis Villeneuve’s “Sicario” and Zach Cregger’s 2022 horror hit “Barbarian” are among those with limited time left.

These are the five films you need to check out before they are removed from Netflix on September 1.

(20th Century) Barbarian

Riding the high of “Weapons” and chasing that same energy? Zach Cregger’s 2022 hit “Barbarian” understandably scratches a similar itch as his most recent film. “Barbarian...

James Gunn has officially kick-started a fresh era for DC with his new DC Universe, and fans are already seeing the difference. After years of ups and downs with the old Dceu, Gunn and Peter Safran have built a clean slate that still carries a few familiar faces but focuses on one big, connected story across movies and shows.

His first big swing, Superman (2025), has set the stage for what this universe will look like—grounded, hopeful, and tightly planned. With the animated show Creature Commandos opening the “Gods and Monsters” chapter and more projects lined up, Gunn has a clear vision for the Dcu’s direction. Let’s take...

Every Zack Snyder Graphic Scene, Ranked Disturbing to Disgusting

Zack Snyder just announced his next movie, which will reportedly be a World War II drama that he has been developing since the 2000s. The filmmaker who is known for his hyper-stylized action epics like Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League will reportedly be tackling a significantly grounded war drama, named The Last Photograph (via THR).

Snyder has never shied away from showing explicit scenes on screen. Be it s*xually explicit sequences like the intimate scene between Nite Owl and Silk Spectre or the violent Knightmare sequence in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Snyder’s visually stunning sequences do not censor themselves. There...

Comics Interview: Dissected – Issue #19
Image
Welcome to the latest instalment of our Dissected feature here on Nerdly, where one of our comic gurus, Ian Wells, delves into comics history and looks back at Comics Interview, the long-running journal of interviews and criticism from David Anthony Kraft (Dak).

I Am The Law

This issue belongs to Brian Bolland. He even draws himself on the cover, squaring off against Judge Dredd, the character he is most associated with. I have never really been a fan of British comics, despite being British. So I came to his work much later and via his American work. Now I’ve matured, his work is a thing of beauty. It is instantly recognisable, and when you see it in the context of this interview, it feels like there is nothing in American comics like it.

Brian Bolland’s name has been cropping up in the pages of Ci frequently in recent issues.

Watchmen Creator Alan Moore Wrote The Last Superman Story Ever
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

1986 was one of the most important years for American comic books ever, especially DC Comics. More than any other comic gem which debuted that year, Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' 12-issue "Watchmen" finally gave superhero comics some literary prestige. Yet Moore wrote another comic masterpiece that same year.

Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" is usually listed alongside "Watchmen" as the '86 book that changed people's ideas of what comics could be. "Dark Knight" imagined an ending for Batman, depicting an aged Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement when Gotham City needs him again. Moore, one of Miller's contemporaries, sung the praises of "The Dark Knight Returns" when it was first published, penning a foreword for it titled "Mark of the Batman":

"Miller has also managed to shape The Batman into a true legend by introducing that...

James Gunn’s Dcu Roadmap: Every Movie and TV Show Announced So Far (Photo Credit – Instagram)

When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of DC Studios, the expectation was nothing short of a complete rebuild. For years, the DC Extended Universe had been defined by inconsistent storytelling, frequent creative shifts, and divided fan reactions. Now, Gunn’s new vision promises to reshape DC on screen into a more cohesive and interconnected universe, one that blends iconic heroes with unexpected, riskier choices.

Instead of rushing to replicate Marvel’s formula, Gunn has outlined a clear roadmap called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. This slate, as per Rotten Tomatoes, includes theatrical blockbusters alongside original TV series, all set within the same continuity. While Superman might remain central, the inclusion of lesser-known characters and genre-bending projects shows Gunn’s desire to broaden DC’s appeal.

Superman Digital Release: 15 DC Movies It Overthrew at the Box Office Prove James Gunn Isn’t a Failure
Image
James Gunn’s Superman was released on digital and PVOD on August 15, a month after the film’s theatrical release. Despite it not being a billion-dollar hit, it is still a major success, making fans wonder why the film was coming out so early. Gunn clarifies that it was due to Peacemaker season 2’s release (via Variety).

The film did great at the box office, with its worldwide gross at the time of writing being $586 million (via The Numbers). While not a huge hit like The Dark Knight trilogy or even Man of Steel, Gunn’s Dcu film is not a failure, as it has fared much better than a whole bunch of DC adaptations. Gunn’s Superman has surpassed 15 DC movies that were released since 2000, in terms of box office performance.

James Gunn Reveals How His Batman Movie Would Look Like, and Honestly It’s Perfect
Image
As James Gunn broadens the scope of Dcu, he recently shared a preview of his formative plans for the Dark Knight, and it’s as dark and pulpy as one could expect. In a behind-the-scenes video shot on the set of Superman, Gunn reveals his idea for a Batman movie to an intrigued David Corenswet (via DC Film News):

Even with Batman, if I was doing Batman, I’d get into it it like, Batman’s a f**king maniac. So he puts on a f**king scary bat costume and goes out and tries to scare people.

For those upset by this diminishing of the Caped Crusader into an Arkham-worthy lunatic, let it be known that Gunn’s Batman is inspired straight out of the original comics. In the earliest versions after Batman’s debut in Detective Comics #27 (1939), the billionaire vigilante was an amalgamation of dark, violent, and disturbing.

David Corenswet Was Wrong, DC Fans Are Siding With James Gunn After Video of Their On-Set Disagreement
Image
The debate is settled in the court of public opinion: David Corenswet’s interpretation of Superman’s climactic monologue was wrong, and fans are firmly siding with director James Gunn. During the filming of Superman (2025), a behind-the-scenes video revealed an exchange between Gunn and Corenswet over how Clark Kent should deliver the emotionally charged ‘being human’ speech to Lex Luthor. The actor argued that the scene’s power lay in quiet vulnerability, insisting:

Don’t I feel better now that I’ve heard that thing, that really important moment that happened earlier with my adopted father? Didn’t that make it better? Didn’t that make me immune to this? Isn’t that the whole point?

Gunn, however, pushed back: vulnerability means showing hurt, not hiding it. “It’s not wrong for you to feel that way,” Gunn explained. “You should just… be vulnerable. Which means showing Lex that your f—ing feelings are hurt.

James McTeigue’s2005 dystopian thriller V for Vendetta, starring Natalie Portman (Thor), is officially leaving Netflix on September 1, 2025. The film, which collected $134.7 million worldwide, follows a masked vigilante known as V (Hugo Weaving), while Portman plays Evey Hammond, a young woman who forms an unlikely partnership with him. Natalie Portman's DC Comics Thriller Losing Its Streaming Home 20 Years After Leaving Theaters

Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman has had a very diverse career filled with dramas, comedy, action, and more. She also made her debut in the superhero world in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 2011's Thor, where she played Chris Hemwsorth's character's love interest over several entries in the franchise.

However, few are aware of her history with a critically acclaimed DC Comics adaptation: 2005's V for Vendetta. James McTeigue's movie adapts Alan Moore, David Lloyd, and Tony Weare' graphic novel series DC Vertigo Comics published in 1988. 20 years after its release in theaters, V for Vendetta is set to leave Netflix on Sept. 1, What's On Netflix reports.

The 12 Best Magic-Based Superheroes From Both Marvel And DC Comics, Ranked
Image
The respective worlds of Marvel Comics and DC Comics aren't always associated with magic and sorcery. Some of the biggest characters from either franchise run the gamut from otherworldly aliens (Marvel's Captain Marvel and DC's Superman), technologically-capable geniuses (Marvel's Iron Man and DC's Mister Terrific), and even just straight-up powerless vigilantes (Marvel's Daredevil and DC's Batman). However, both comic book giants also have plenty of characters whose powers are less super and more archaic.

These powerful individuals from both franchises include some of the strongest superheroes to ever grace the pages of a comic book, and cover a wide variety of magic types. There's those who are given their powers by a god or deity, those who master the ways of sorcery and witchcraft, and those who are just simply born with the latent ability to manipulate matter and bend the universe to their will. These are the 12 best magic-based...

Y: The Last Man Creator Explains Why His Upcoming Ghost Story Is 'Spicy' and 'For Adults Only'
Image
Brian K. Vaughan has been one of the most successful comic book writers in the entire industry in the past 25 years, both commercially and critically. Only Alan Moore has won more Best Writer Eisner Awards than Vaughan, and his long-running series, Saga, with co-creator/artist Fiona Staples, has been one of the best-selling Image comic book series for years now. In a Cbr exclusive interview at Comic-Con International at San Diego (Sdcc), Sean O'Connell talked to Vaughan about his career, and what his new projects will be.

Vaughan teased an upcoming graphic novel from Image called Spectators, which is an unusual mixture between horror and erotica that the creator describes as "adults only" and a bit on the "spicy" side of things. The great comic book artist, Niko Henrichon, who famously collaborated with Vaughan on the 2006 graphic novel, Pride of Baghdad, is the artist on this new project.

Do ya really wanna, do you really wanna taste of "Peacemaker" season 2?

After an extended hiatus, James Gunn's acclaimed DC Universe series is returning to HBO Max. Gunn is seemingly more than ready to get back to his creative goldmine, and honestly, so are we. In anticipation of this new adventure, we couldn't help but revisit the character's weirdest and most absurd moments from his history, both in film/television and the comics that inspired them. From his origins in the 1960s to his somewhat unexpected big screen appearance in 2025, we found all the highlights...

DC Studios Confirms the Current State of 'Swamp Thing' After Cancellation Report

There is still hope for Swamp Thing's Dcu future as news of the film's cancellation has been greatly exaggerated, according to James Gunn. Ever since the news broke that a previously announced Dcu title had been canceled, fans have been speculating which film it might have been. A recent interview with Gunn the other day had many speculating that the canceled film in question might have been James Mangold's Swamp Thing, given Gunn's comments that the film had a writer and director attached.

However, James Gunn has debunked the claims that Swamp Thing has been canceled. Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, via Dcu Updates, Gunn confirmed Swamp Thing is still in development and that he recently spoke with James Mangold about the film. Zack Snyder Movies Ranked: From Worst to Best
Image
Is there any current director who is more controversial than Zack Snyder? It’s wild how divisive a figure he is, with his fans nearly cult-like in their devotion, while his detractors are just as fervent. Here at JoBlo, we’ve always been ardent supporters, even if we haven’t unquestioningly praised all of his films. Thus, we thought it would be interesting to do an all-around ranking of his films (although we’ve left the animated Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole off the list). So, without further ado, here’s our ranking from worst to best.

Sucker Punch (2011)

I’ll admit to not knowing precisely what Snyder was trying to pull off when I saw this movie in 2011. It remains the most obscure of his live-action films. It is a tough nut to crack, being that it’s a fantastical, hyper-surrealistic fantasy centred around a woman...

James Gunn's Superman Is Inspired By Man Of Steel (But Not The One You Think)
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Spoilers for "Superman" follow.

With James Gunn's "Superman," Warner Bros. is beginning a movie series based on DC Comics and is starting with the original superhero. Sounds familiar, right?

But Gunn's "Superman" and Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" are as much worlds apart from each other as Earth and Krypton are. Where Snyder's film was downbeat and pretentious, Gunn's is happily corny, brimming with mile-a-minute exuberance. This is the type of movie where a kaiju rampage is just another day in Metropolis. Yet while he exists in a much zanier world, David Corenswet's Clark Kent is a much more human character than Henry Cavill's "realistic" Superman ever was.

This Clark is not a silent, scowling god who carries expectations like a burden; he's a goodhearted guy just trying to do the right thing. Clark's humanity,...

This Cult-Classic 73% Rotten Tomatoes Comic Book Movie Just Arrived on a New Streamer
Image
While the superhero genre has gained a lot of popularity in the last decade, the early 2000s superhero movies felt quite different. What they lacked in special effects and CGI imagery, they made up for in gritty, grounded stories that hit too close to home. While features like Fantastic Four, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy, and X-Men franchise are easily recalled as they focused on the origin stories of our favorite heroes, films like V for Vendetta are remembered for their themes and interpretations.

James McTeigue’s adaptation of Alan Moore’s graphic novel, which stars Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman, has found a new home on Netflix, as per ComicBook. So, if you feel fatigued by DC and Marvel’s franchise-based storytelling, it’s a good time to watch this standalone film.

DC stories James Mangold's Swamp Thing movie could use (and the stories it should avoid)
James Gunn
The world of DC Comics' character Swamp Thing is a vast and rich one, with plenty of potential to work on both the big or small screen. The character is expected to return to the silver screen in the near-future, as James Gunn announced the first slate of DC Universe projects a couple of years ago, with a Swamp Thing movie among those announcements. It was subsequently confirmed that James Mangold would helm the film.

Unfortunately, the film, and other Dcu projects, have been hit with setbacks, making their immediate future unclear. With regards to Swamp Thing, it's still in development so it hasn't been canceled outright but whether or not that it will happen in the future (or if it will be pushed back) is currently up in the air.

At this point in time, there isn't a lot known about the story of the potential Swamp Thing movie,...

DC Drops a Superman Bombshell Ahead of James Gunn's Movie By Changing a Controversial Piece of Lore

DC Comics just brought back a controversial piece of Supermanlore, which once more raises the question of whether Watchmenis canon in the DC Universe. Further, astute fans have suggested that the return of “The Supermen Project” could reflect things fans are about to see on-screen in James Gunn’s highly anticipated Superman film.

New History of the DC Universe #1, written by Mark Waid, with art by Todd Nauck and Jerry Ordway, is an ambitious undertaking, which seeks to streamline and redefine, as its title suggests, DC’s fictional history.

Among the most profoundly important details included in the issue? The reintegration of “The Supermen Project,” from 2017’s Doomsday Clock, into continuity.

12 Best Comic Books Outside Of Marvel & DC, Ranked
Image
We have already covered the greatest DC Comics ever, as well as various countdowns of the best of the best from Marvel, but let's be real for a second: the indie market has its fair share of seminal comic books too. For many readers, that's where the real magic happens, as creatives play outside of the assigned sandboxes and free from corporate oversight and meddling. The only limit here is where their imagination takes them.

But how do you pick the best comic books outside of Marvel and DC? It isn't an easy task and requires a few considerations. Ultimately, it comes down to being a mix of universally popular series and personal preference, but also analyzing the books' wider influence on pop culture. Did they lead to on-screen adaptations or video games? Did they force the industry to up its game? Those types of questions. In addition to this,...

Sean Connery's Final Film, a Forgotten Comic Book Adaptation, is Coming to Streaming
Image
Sean Connery starred in a superhero movie unlike any other back in 2003. Now, 22 years later, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is heading to streaming.

Beginning July 1, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will be available to stream on Hulu. Distributed by 20th Century Fox in 2003, the steampunk superhero movie is based on the first volume of the eponymous comic book series by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill, which is set in a universe where all the characters and events from Victorian literature coexist, with Connery starring as Allan Quatermain, the protagonist of H. Rider Haggard's 1885 novel King Solomon's Mines. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was directed by Stephen Norrington, who is perhaps best known for helming the first Blade movie starring Wesley Snipes.

Joining Connery's Allan Quatermain as part of the titular team are Bram Stoker's vampiress Mina Harker, H. G. Wells' the Invisible Man, Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr.

Metal Hurlant Unveils New English-Language Edition on 50th Anniversary as Denis Villeneuve Calls French Sci-Fi Comic Anthology the Source of His ‘Earliest Visual Inspirations’ (Exclusive)
Image
Metal Hurlant, the French comic book anthology from the 1970s and 80s credited with reshaping the contemporary sci-fi aesthetic and inspiring films such as “Alien,” “Tron,” “Blade Runner,” “Akira” and “The Fifth Element,” is returning on its 50th anniversary.

A new English-language quarterly edition of Metal Hurlant — first announced last year — is hitting shelves this week from publishers Humanoids, which launched the original in France in 1975. Variety can exclusively reveal several excerpts of new stories from the anthology alongside support from one of the biggest filmmakers working today.

Excerpt from ‘Respect’ by Matthew Allison

Metal Hurlant was first created by comic artists Jean Giraud (better known as Mœbius) and Philippe Druillet, together with journalist-writer Jean-Pierre Dionnet and finance director Bernand Farkas. Collectively, the four were known as “Les Humanoïdes Associés (United Humanoids), which became the name of their publishing house, first launched in Paris but now based in Los Angeles.

Batman Begins 20th Anniversary: James Gunn Hated Nolan’s “Dark Take” That Might Influence His Dcu
Image
Decades ago, Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins didn’t just reboot the Caped Crusader, but it also changed how people viewed superhero cinema. It was released on June 15, 2005, which marks its 20th anniversary, and it still remains one of the best iterations, according to many.

The movie was dark, had psychological depth, and grit because Nolan made Gotham feel terrifyingly real, and the trilogy introduced us to Heath Ledger’s Joker, a portrayal that was immortalized by the late actor’s timeless performance. But James Gunn, who is the new architect of Dcu, has previously dismissed Nolan’s vision, so let’s look at his past critique and how The Dark Knight Trilogy might shape his own take on Batman.

If You Think Watchmen Is Alan Moore's Best Work, 1 Horror Icon Says You're Totally Wrong
Image
Alan Moore’s epic Watchmen series is often cited as the best superhero comic book of all time, but according to horror author Joe Hill, another one of Moore’s classic graphic novels deserves to be lauded as the author’s masterpiece: From Hell, the surreal Jack the Ripper story that truly pushes the limit of the comic medium.

Men’s Health recently collected comic recommendations from nearly fifty authors and artists, and naturally Alan Moore’s work comes up multiple times on the list, but Hill’s declaration that From Hell is Moore’s best work stands out from the rest.

“If the graphic novel form has a Ulysses, this is it,” Hill wrote, drawing a comparison between Moore’s sprawling exploration of the Jack the Ripper mystery and the James Joyce novel which is often ranked at the top of lists of the best novels of the 20th century.

42 Years Later, Marvel Finally Explains Why Its Main Continuity Is Called Earth-616
Image
Spider-Man celebrates 616 Day by saving Marvel's Earth-616 from destruction, learning from Reddwyn why his universe is so special and how it got its iconic number. Spider-Man is eager to fight his traditional enemies as Earth-616 goes through a rare period of normalcy, but multiversal stability has other plans for Marvel's prime universe. Fortunately, the wall-crawler is there to save his reality.

In 2025's Giant-Size Spider-Man #1, the sorcerer Reddwyn recruits Spider-Man to prevent a rip in reality caused by an Eternivore, which attacks Earth-616 during a multiversal eclipse where Marvel's prime universe falls in the middle of the countless timelines. Peter Parker has been overwhelmed by the number "616" all day, and his questions about its significance are answered by Wyn and his fight against the Eternivore.

The importance of Earth-616 is taken as a given, as it acts as the heart of the Marvel multiverse. However, universal numeration is rarely acknowledged...

This Controversial Batman Animated Movie Kickstarted A New Era For DC
Image
Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's 1988 graphic novel "Batman: The Killing Joke" is a legendary entry in the Batman canon that has influenced countless interpretations of the Dark Knight. Not only did it add major elements to Batman lore, including the shooting of Barbara Gordon and what is now widely accepted as the Joker's origin, it influenced even more popular depictions of the Batman mythos. Director Tim Burton cited "The Killing Joke" as a big inspiration for 1989's "Batman," even going so far as to claim Moore's graphic novel was the first comic book he ever really loved. Later, Christopher Nolan borrowed major elements from the story for "The Dark Knight," most notably Joker's hazy past and unreliable narration whereby we never truly know if the villain is recounting his origin story accurately or not.

This is to say nothing of the way in which "The Killing Joke," alongside seminal...

10 DC Comic Books You Need To Read Before James Gunn's Superman
Image

The release of James Gunn's "Superman" is approaching faster than the speeding bullet, with mere weeks left before superhero fans across the globe witness the dawn of a new DC Universe at the cinemas. A critical project for the future of both Warner Bros. and Gunn's fledgling DC Studios, fans are expecting a version of the Man of Steel that avoids the pitfalls of, well, "Man of Steel" -- and the rest of Zack Snyder's DC Extended Universe, for that matter.

The key differences between Snyder and Gunn's universes will most likely come largely as a result of the comics they drew their inspiration from. Synder famously loved gritty Elseworld stories like Alan Moore's "Watchmen" and Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns," and their influence was felt throughout his work in the Dceu. Meanwhile, Gunn...

Zack Snyder’s Underrated Superhero Film Just Dropped On Ott! Is It Worth Watching?
Image
A Lesser-Known Zack Snyder Superhero Film Is Now Streaming On Ott! ( Photo Credit – Prime Video )

Hollywood filmmaker Zack Snyder is well-known for directing the immensely popular superhero movies Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2017). A few years before going behind the camera for these high-profile DC films, Snyder had already explored the superhero genre with a lesser-known and more unconventional film. Can you guess which one?

That film was Watchmen (2009), a dark, morally complex, and visually opulent adaptation of the iconic graphic novel that flew under the radar after its release. Read on to know more about the film, where it is streaming on Ott, and whether it’s worth your time now.

Watchmen: Plot & Cast

The film is set in an alternate version of 1985, where superheroes exist but have been outlawed, all against the tense backdrop of the Cold War. The plot...

The Wonder Woman Dilemma: Why DC’s Iconic Hero Has Been Overlooked & How MCU Could Redefine Her Legacy
Image
Wonder Woman’s Comic History Needs Respect as Dceu Falls Short Compared to MCU’s Potential ( Photo Credit – Facebook )

Right off the bat, I have to say: that Wonder Woman’s presence on screen was huge, but how she’s been treated in comics and fandom has been all over the place for way too long. Unlike Superman and Batman, her history hasn’t gotten consistent respect. That gap was glaring to me. DC’s two biggest heroes had iconic, reprinted stories from every decade. Wonder Woman, not so much. This isn’t just a rant; it’s my frustration over how DC, creators, and fans have handled one of their Trinity’s brightest stars. She deserves so much more.

When I look at Superman and Batman, I see creators like Siegel and Shuster, Alan Moore, John Byrne, Frank Miller – names attached to their decades-long legacies. They created must-read runs that keep getting celebrated.

The Most Relevant Sci-Fi Story Of 2025 Is This New Comic Book
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Superhero movies have become infatuated with the multiverse. A lot of that must go back to Marv Wolfman and George Pérez's 1986 "Crisis on Infinite Earths," where all the heroes from DC Comics' vast multiverse band together against an omnicidal threat. But can the multiverse be used for greater storytelling than as a vehicle to throw blockbuster IP together? The new comic book "Assorted Crisis Events" says "Yes."

Since the first issue of "Assorted Crisis Events" (which I covered here), the series has been sold as "'Crisis On Infinite Earths' if it was happening to normal people." Written by Deniz Camp, penciled by Eric Zawadzki, and colored by Jordie Bellaire, "Assorted Crisis Events" is an anthology. The main character is the crisis itself. Reality is falling apart due to different time periods coming together and leaving people caught in its wake.

One Of The Worst Superhero Movies Ever Is Tubi's Latest Obsession
Image
You could make a case that Stephen Norrington's "Blade" was ground zero for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's unprecedented blockbuster run. Though it hit theaters in 1998, 11 years before the release of "Iron Man," if you grew up reading comic books, you could sense a kindred charge from your fellow moviegoers the second Snipes got on with his vampire-killing business. This wasn't Tim Burton's "Batman," which used Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" as window dressing; Norrington's "Blade" possessed the swagger and lethality of the character created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan.

Norrington immediately became a fan-favorite filmmaker (his reputation bolstered by "Blade" becoming one of the first must-own DVDs as the medium caught fire), which led a significant contingent of geeks to lobby for him to direct everything from "X-Men" to "Spider-Man." When he finally alit on "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," an adaptation of Alan Moore...

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Confirms Whether Zack Snyder Had Plans For Flashpoint Batman
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Due to the many, many times we've seen Bruce Wayne's parents die in "Batman" movies and TV, there are quite a few different Thomas and Martha Wayne actors out there... even if most of them didn't last long enough to leave an impression!

The most recognizable actors to have played the late Waynes are probably Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan in Zack Snyder's 2016 film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." (Morgan and Cohan are both well-known for playing Negan and Maggie on "The Walking Dead," respectively, and are currently starring together in the spin-off "Dead City.")

Snyder opens his movie by cutting between the Waynes being shot in an alley and young Bruce (Brandon Spink) running away from their funeral, only to fall into a cave of bats (and his future). Both scenes are fastidiously recreated from Frank Miller's seminal Batman comic,...

Iconic Illustrator Eddie Campbell Talks Denis Kitchen and ‘From Hell’ [Exclusive]
Robert Crumb
Publisher. Underground Cartoonist. Activist. Historian. Quirky Collector. Troublemaker. Denis Kitchen has been taking on the establishment for decades. Now an all-new documentary, Oddly Compelling, highlights Kitchen’s long, strange trip — from his early days as a hippie cartoonist, to his thirty years as one of the most important independent comic book publishers, and his work as a fierce advocate for the First Amendment. Oddly Compelling is now on Kickstarter.

Filmmaker Soren Christiansen and Ted Intorcio have captured hours of in-depth, candid conversations with Denis Kitchen, as well as fellow cartoonists and colleagues including Alison Bechdel, Warren Bernard, Eddie Campbell, Paul Gravett, and Karen Green. The film also features rare archival footage of comic book legends Robert Crumb, Will Eisner, and Harvey Kurtzman, along with new animation of Kitchen’s iconic cartooning. The film charts Kitchen’s career as an indie cartoonist, a provocateur and publisher, and founder of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

Constantine (2005) – What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
You know what sounds like a hard sell to a Hollywood studio? A chain smoking antihero with a bad attitude and terminal lung cancer whom God himself doesn’t like. Dipping in and out of actual Hell. Where, by the way, Satan can’t wait to torture him for eternity. Oh, and it’s a large-ish budget superhero movie based on a DC/Vertigo comic. It’s a road that would include lawsuits, a music video director, a comic book creator who would rather leave free money on the table than be involved, and the MPAA gumming up the works. But where there’s a Keanu Reeves….there’s a way. This is what happened to Constantine.

The origins of Constantine began in June of 1986 when famed comic creator Alan Moore introduced him in The Saga of Swamp Thing #37. The occult investigator from England was on the hunt for information...

10 Richest DC Comics Characters, Ranked
Image
Estimating the wealth of a fictional character is both interesting and very difficult to do, seeing how a lot of the estimates are based on imprecise numbers and speculation. Rarely do works of fiction present us with precise data, and even when they do, the data is only partial as it never encompasses all characters. On top of that, the data constantly changes, and different sources often list different data.

In this list, we are going to bring you a list of the 10 richest characters from the fictional universe created by DC Comics, as you are going to find out who the richest comic book characters from DC’s banner are.

Disclaimer: The data in this list is not always precise, and it is subject to constant change, so take it as estimates (where data is available) rather than exact facts.

Sean Connery’s 16% Rotten Tomatoes Superhero Film Is Delighting New Audiences on a Free Streamer
Image
While the comic book movie genre is all the rage now thanks to the MCU and DC, there was a time when they were more grounded, gritty and edgy. Before the big studio franchises came and gave a CGI-filled direction to the genre movies like Blade, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, X-Menmovies kept the audience on the periphery of realism and fantasy. One among them, Sean Connery-led The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, finds some love on streaming.

As per FlixPatrol, the 2003 movie is steadily climbing the Tubi charts where it's streaming for free. The movie is at #7 on the list, standing behind titles like The Fast & The Furious, Friday the 13th, Next Friday, and more. While the steampunk superhero film is loosely based on the comic book series of the same name by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill got mixed reactions from the audience upon its debut it was a commercial hit,...

The 15 Worst Things The Joker Has Ever Done
Image
One of the most recognizable and beloved villains in the history of entertainment, the Joker has dominated the criminal underworld of DC Comics since he first appeared during the industry's Golden Age. Whether he's portrayed cartoonishly, as a maniacal mastermind of malice and mischief, or as a disturbingly plausible psychological terrorist, his appearances in "Batman" stories are consistently memorable.

What makes him so distinct is his peculiar way of carrying out his creatively heinous crimes, always with a flair for the dramatic, a smile, and a grim joke. We've gone through his history in comics, film, and television to find the most horrible things various versions of the clown prince have ever done. While we'll be avoiding some severe tonal outliers, our top 15 choices showcase the Joker at his absolute best - which is to say, his very, very worst.

15 Best Movies Like Divergent
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

There's something about young adult fiction that seems well-suited for dystopian stories, as exemplified by the "Divergent" novels by Veronica Roth. Adapted into a film series starting in 2014, the science fiction story had protagonist Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) rise from humble origins in the face of an authoritarian government. Tris joins and inspires a resistance movement to topple the regime, using her unique gifts to rally her supporters. And while the "Divergent" movies may have ended prematurely, without concluding its story, there are plenty of similar films that do present a complete story.

Many of the movies on this are dystopian science fiction, with the main characters often freedom fighters defying various tyrannies. These often involve a cataclysmic incident that facilitated a dark rise to power, with younger generations saving the day from older despots. On numerous occasions, these films are adaptations of beloved books,...
