He was on his way back to Britain from America in 1939 with the intention of joining the armed forces when the ship on which he was traveling was captured by Nazis and he spent five years in a German P.O.W. camp. During this period he organized camp entertainment and produced 56 shows for the other prisoners. On his release he returned to Britain where he resumed his acting career. He never fully recovered from his wartime experiences and only made a limited number of post war appearances. He eventually died a broken man in a home for forgotten actors in Greenwich, London, England.

  • Trivia
During Mollison's time in MILAG, (the Merchant Navy and non-military persons Internment Camp) some of the prisoners attempted to tunnel out of the camp. The tunnel collapsed, and was discovered by the Germans. The prisoners were ordered to assemble on the parade ground. The Camp Commandant, who was a Prussian c.w. monocle, told the prisoners that if they attempted to escape again, they would be shot. Mollison said in a loud "stage whisper" "I think it strange that Jerry built a camp on top of a tunnel". The Commandant said "Very funny, Herr Mollison. You will be the first to be shot". (Statement by Capt. John Campkin, Third Mate of the Shell tanker "Eulima" which was torpedoed by U-186, in 1943, and a fellow prisoner of Mollison at MILAG, to Third Mate Alan Knight, on Shell tanker "Vitrina", 1972).
