    • Gaston Modot was born on December 31, 1887 in Paris, France. He was an actor and writer, known for La grande illusion (1937), La règle du jeu (1939) and Les enfants du paradis (1945). He died on February 19, 1970 in Le Raincy, Seine-Saint-Denis, France.

Trivia

  • Powerfully-built, dark-haired French leading actor. In films from 1910, appearing in numerous short comedies. Capable of playing humorous or villainous roles with equal verve. Perhaps best remembered for his thuggish gamekeeper in La règle du jeu (1939).
  • Over the course of his 54 year career, he never appeared on a television show, which is quite unusual for an actor of his day.
  • For a time worked as a painter in Montmartre.
  • Best remembered for his leading role as The Man in Luis Buñuel's surrealist masterpiece L'Âge d'or (1930).
