Peggy Moffitt Dies: Iconic ’60s Model, Cultural Influencer & Actress Who Appeared In Antonioni’s ‘Blow-Up’ Was 86
Image
Peggy Moffitt, the iconic ’60s model who was also a contract player at Paramount and who appeared in Michelangelo Antonioni’s Blow-Up, died at her Beverly Hills home on Saturday from complications of dementia. Her son, Christopher Claxton, confirmed the news to the New York Times. She was 86.

Moffitt’s wide-ranging influence can be traced to the persona she created, often in collaboration with others. Her gamine, modern look was a construct made up of her signature pale skin, harlequin eye makeup, five-point Vidal Sassoon haircut and a sense of humor, all of which she never abandoned.

She had a cultural moment when, in 1964, she posed in a topless swimsuit from designer Rudi Gernreich. The controversial look referenced a schoolboy’s shorts, with thin suspenders rising in a “V” between the cleavage, but nothing else above the waistline. The resulting image, which ran in publications across the world, was condemned...

Peggy Moffitt, Actor and Model for Famous Topless Bathing Suit Photo, Dies at 86
Image
Peggy Moffitt, the actor and model who became a 1960s mod icon wearing designer Rudi Gernreich’s famous topless bathing suit design and other bold looks of the era, died Saturday in Beverly Hills. She was 86.

Her son, Christopher Claxton, told the New York Times she died of complications of dementia.

Moffitt’s husband, renowned photographer William Claxton, shot the photo that became a sensation for its daring design of a bathing suit held up only by slender straps, with no top portion. The 1964 photo, first published in Look and then a more explicit version in Women’s Wear Daily, was banned in some countries even though her arms were covering her breasts in some of the poses.

The actor and model was working at a trendy Beverly Hills boutique that sold pop art fashions when Gernreich asked her to pose, though she specified she would never wear the suit in public.

'World of Jenks' Kaylin Andres' designs may be timeless, but she has no sense of immortality
People, especially when younger, defer their dreams, figuring they have time.

Kaylin Andres doesn't have that sense of immortality.

The designer featured on MTV's Monday series "World of Jenks" is dealing with her third occurrence of cancer. She always wanted to be a fashion designer and wanted to work in the fashion capital of the United States, so she moved to New York.

"I knew pretty early on," she tells Zap2it from her home in Brooklyn, where she was resting after a chemo session. "My family taught me how to sew when I was really young, and I always loved drawing and sewing and creating, so I knew by age 10 that I wanted to design."

A huge fan of "British designers in particular because of their wit and sense of humor," Andres says she is partial to Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.

In her own creations she aims to...

Moca Teams With the Total Look Show to Host a Fashion, Food Fete
The new Moca show The Total Look is a celebration of the fashion/art collaboration between designer Rudi Gernreich, model Peggy Moffitt and photographer extraordinaire William Claxton (who was also Moffitt's longtime husband until his death a few years ago). Gernreich, who invented the topless bathing suit, was once a sketch artist for costume designer Edith Head, but went on to become one of the designers who defined the mod sixties aesthetic with his chic body conscious designs and bathing suits. He and Mary Quant in London pretty much invented the colorful mini shift dress.  Photos And Video: Chanel Chic

Last night was all about the first Thor trailer on Yahoo with the latest Marvel film completely taking over the Yahoo Movie Homepage. But if you look closely, you’ll se that another trailer was released last night for the new biopic based on legendary hairdresser, Vidal Sassoon.

The movie stars Vidal Sassoon, Mary Quant, John Frieda, Peggy Moffitt, Ronnie Sassoon and is direcetd by Craig Teper.

Synopsis: A portrait of revolutionary hairdresser Vidal Sassoon. With the geometric Bauhaus-inspired hairdstyles he pioneered in the ’60s and his “wash and wear” philosophy, he liberated generations of women from the tyranny of the salon. Here, we follow Sassoon’s life from a Jewish orphanage in London to his rise to the pinnacle of his craft.

Have a watch below and you’ll see snippets of the man who changed the way that people cut hair….We’re expecting this one early 2011.
