Adolescence Team Talks Season 2 Possibilities After Netflix Success
Image
Following the success of Adolescence, executive producers Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters opened up about the possibility of doing another season of Netflix’s newest crime drama series. In the show, Graham portrays the role of Eddie Miller, the father of a 13-year-old boy who has been accused of murdering his female classmate.

Netflix’s Adolescence was originally developed as a limited drama. However, this may possibly change due to the show’s ongoing critical and streaming success. Speaking with Variety, when asked if the streamer had already reached out to them for a potential second season, Graham and Walters confirmed that nothing is really official, but admitted that they’re indeed considering the possibility of working on another story for Adolescence Season 2. "Possibly, let’s see how the figures are," Graham said with a smirk. "But yeah, there’s the possibility of developing another story." However, Walters also acknowledged...

The best Netflix limited series of 2025 so far just made history
Image
Netflix has so many great shows that have hit all sorts of records not just for the streamer itself, but in television in general. Think Stranger Things, Bridgerton, and more. Those are big series' though, and you kind of come to expect that to happen for those types of shows. But what about a limited series? Those are harder to break through. And yet, there's one that just did.

Adolescence sets a record for Netflix and the UK

Everyone's been talking about Adolescence on Netflix since the one-shot crime drama premiered on March 13, 2025. It's only been a couple of weeks, and already the Stephen Graham-led production has set a record for both Netflix, and the UK itself as it's a British series.

The show currently has totaled up 66.3 million views in just two weeks, making it the most-watched and biggest limited series for Netflix. That's also true for the UK as a whole.

At 15, ‘Adolescence’ breakthrough Owen Cooper could set a new Emmys age record
Image
The youngest male actor to win a Primetime Emmy Award is Scott Jacoby, who at 16 years old set an age record in 1973 when he prevailed in Best Drama Supporting Actor for That Certain Summer. Now, 52 years later, that milestone could be broken should Adolescence breakthrough Owen Cooper, age 15, prevail at the 2025 Emmys.

Jacoby continued working until 1991, with his last credited project being Son of Darkness: To Die for II. Comparatively, the youngest female Emmy champs are Roxana Zal and Kristy McNichol (who was 15 when she won Best Drama Supporting Actress for Family in 1977; she would win again in 1979 at age 17).

In Adolescence, Cooper plays Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old teenage murder suspect, who repeatedly denies stabbing a female schoolmate. Jamie's father, Eddie Miller, played by Stephen Graham, eventually has his own questions about his son's guilt. The four-episode crime drama is co-created and co-written by Graham and Jack Thorne. Each episode...

'Adolescence': Stephen Graham Interview, Meaning of the Final Scene of the Series
Image
One of the most gratifying things for Stephen Graham, who stars in the newly released drama Adolescence, is all the conversations it’s starting.

The four-part limited series centers on the aftermath of a shocking act of violence and how it affects a school, a community, and a family. Graham plays the patriarch of that family, Eddie Miller, whose 13-year-old son, Jamie (Owen Cooper), has been accused of murdering a schoolmate named Katie (Emilia Holliday).

Graham, who also co-created and co-wrote Adolescence with Jack Thorne, had always hoped that the show would be greeted with the same kind of “love … integrity … [and] respect” that everyone who worked on it had put into it, but he says that it’s been incredible to be greeted by people from all walks of life who have been moved by what they’ve seen.

Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescence (2025)
Netflix’s Adolescence: The Emotional Weight of Eddie’s Final Scene
Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescence (2025)
One of the most powerful moments in Adolescence comes in its final scene, when Stephen Graham’s character, Eddie Miller, is left alone in his son’s bedroom, holding Jamie’s teddy bear. This small but deeply emotional scene speaks volumes about Eddie’s grief, guilt, and love for his son. It also serves as the perfect conclusion to a story that has explored the complexities of parenthood, masculinity, and the ripple effects of one tragic act.

The Symbolism of the Teddy Bear

Director Philip Barantini almost left this moment out of the show, but his decision to include it added a whole new layer of emotional depth. The teddy bear is more than just a childhood relic; it represents the son Eddie feels he has lost. Jamie, who has just changed his plea to guilty for killing his classmate Katie, is no longer the innocent boy Eddie once knew.

"Adolescence," the chilling Netflix limited series filmed in one-take, is one of the best things to come from the streamer in years. ‘Adolescence’ Is More Than Netflix’s Take on the One-Take Gimmick — It’s a Conversation About Incel Culture
Image
It’s tempting for the technical story behind “Adolescence” to overshadow the themes at the center of the Netflix original. After all, this is a series composed of four hourlong one-shot episodes. But even though it was director Philip Barantini’s expertise with the oner that sparked the conversation that would lead to “Adolescence,” this directorial triumph was only utilized to highlight the tense story at the center of this limited series.

“Whenever I was reading the script, I had to be able to visualize that we were able to do this one take and it wasn’t going to be a gimmick,” Barantini told TheWrap.

“We wanted to create something that grabbed you straight away,” series star, co-creator and executive producer Stephen Graham told TheWrap. “We wanted to make it so you can’t afford to miss anything within the context of what we’re shooting.”

‘Adolescence’ Recap (Episodes 1-4): Why Did Jamie Plead Guilty?

Netflix’s Adolescence is the kind of series you shouldn’t miss out on. Through their mature writing, Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne illustrate how the toxic culture, the misogyny, and the flawed notions of masculinity can have an impact on a tender mind. Adolescence on Netflix is only four episodes, here's why a season 2 is unlikely
Image
I honestly wasn't expecting Adolescence on Netflix to effect me as much as it has. But really, the show deserves all the praise it's currently getting from critics! It's a true standout that brings all the emotion and makes us think about the struggle of teens today, themes of masculinity, and what could happen to a normal and overall happy family. With the show only being four episodes and the ending not completely tied up in a way, you might be wondering about what comes next.

Well, I really think an Adolescence season 2 is unlikely to happen. Netflix hasn't made any official announcements. Though from the start, the show was billed as a miniseries. And while other dramas that are limited series' may get two or even three seasons, I think the creatives have told the story they wanted to tell. As co-creator and Eddie Miller actor Stephen Graham tells Tudum,...

Adolescence on Netflix parents guide: Is the miniseries appropriate for teens?
Image
New British miniseries Adolescence is now streaming on Netflix. And honestly, it's one of the best shows I've watched in a long time, and I feel like will really resonate with viewers. Despite the title of the drama and the character at the center of the story being 13-year-old Jamie Miller, is the show appropriate for teens and a younger audience?

Well officially, Adolescence has been rated TV-ma. The age rating means that a production may contain scenes and content not fitting for those who are under 17 years old. Netflix sites that the more mature rating is due to language. But since this is also billed as a crime drama and thriller, you may have questions. Well, we're going to break it all down for you here without spoilers.

Netflix’s One-Take Drama ‘Adolescence’ Is a Gutting Account of Murder, Misogyny and Teen Fragility: TV Review
Image
Misogyny is a part of the fabric of our culture, and a patriarchal society like the one we live in depends on deep-seated and widespread contempt for women to sustain its structure. Created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, Netflix’s latest limited series, “Adolescence,” is a chilling examination of murder and toxic masculinity. Though the subject matter is entirely different, this series will undoubtedly be compared to Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer,” which debuted to thunderous acclaim last year, and swept the Emmys as well as other awards. Gutting, raw and stunningly acted, “Adolescence” highlights how we’ve failed ourselves and will continually fail the generations coming behind us.

Helmed by director Philip Barantini, who uses his signature one-shot style throughout all four episodes, “Adolescence” opens in an unnamed Northern English town in the early morning. Detective Inspector Luke Bascombe (Ashley Walters) and his partner, Detective Sargent Misha Frank (Faye Marsay...

'Adolescence' Episode 4 Recap: Creators and Star Explain Ending and Why Jamie Killed Katie
Image
The final scene of Adolescenceoffers viewers one last heartbreaking moment before fading to black. To close out Episode 4, devastated father Eddie Miller (played by series co-creator and co-writer Stephen Graham) kisses his son Jamie’s teddy bear, apologizing to the stuffed animal as though it was his own boy. Eddie is still clearly reeling from the news Jamie (Owen Cooper) — who is accused of murdering his classmate Katie (Emilia Holliday) — shared minutes earlier: He’ll be changing his plea to guilty and accepting his fate for killing Katie.

Director Philip Barantini reveals the affecting moment almost didn’t happen. In the script, Eddie was simply meant to get inside Jamie’s bed and pull the covers over his body, like he was an avatar for his imprisoned son. “We rehearsed it, and it was great. But I just felt like there’s something about him tucking in Jamie’s teddy,...

Adolescence episode 1 review | A horrific crime kicks off Philip Barantini’s new drama
Image
Stephen Graham plays the father of a teenager suspected of a brutal murder in the latest Netflix TV show from Philip Barantini. Here’s our review of Adolescence episode 1.

Early mornings are sacred. They’re meant for getting ready for the day in peace and quiet, preparing for whatever the day holds. And coffee, lots and lots of coffee. So imagine the police forcing their way into your house just after 6am and taking your son on suspicion of murder.

This is exactly the situation Eddie Miller (Stephen Graham) finds himself in during the first episode of Adolescence. His son Jamie (a superb Owen Cooper) is suspected of murdering a local girl the night before, but the lad swears he didn’t do it. In the first episode of Netflix’s new drama, we follow not just Eddie or Jamie through the episode but the arresting detective Bascombe (Ashley Walters) as Jamie is taken away.

Netflix Crime Drama 'Adolescence' Debuts With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
The latest Netflix crime drama series has been hailed as an “early contender” for the “best thing” you’ll see on the small screen this year. The first reviews for the series, which stars the hugely talented (yet still criminally underrated) Stephen Graham as a father who must face a horrifying situation when his 13-year-old son is accused of murder, have now emerged, and it sounds like we should prepare ourselves for something very special indeed.

Titled Adolescence, the crime drama series has now debuted with a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. M.N. Miller of FandomWire awarded the series a glowing rating of 10/10 and declared that the harrowing story will leave us all “shattered.”

“A crime thriller of extraordinary power and rare insight, Adolescence is anchored by Stephen Graham's towering performance of vulnerability. It hits with the force of a wrecking ball, leaving you shattered—yet somehow manages to piece you back together.

‘Adolescence’ Is Harrowing, Heartbreaking, and a Must-Watch
Image
The new Netflix miniseries Adolescence packs a lot into its four episodes. It is, depending on the chapter, a police procedural; a sociological examination of male rage, cyberbullying, and a failing British school system; a psychological thriller; and a tragedy about how in the 21st century, a child’s bedroom can be the most dangerous place in the world for them to be.

Two elements tie all this ambition together. The first is that everything spins out of the same criminal investigation into whether 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) murdered a female classmate.

Netflix Unveils Ambitious New Crime Drama “Adolescence”
Jere Burns, Tommy Flanagan, Elisabeth Röhm, Romeo Miller, India Eisley, Ashley Avis, and Mickey River in Adolescence (2018)
Netflix has another hit show in the works called “Adolescence.” This limited crime drama promises to be totally intense! The four-part series is being made by actor Stephen Graham and writer Jack Thorne. They started filming in Yorkshire, England last summer and it should come to Netflix in 2025.

“Adolescence” follows a family going through some major drama after their 13-year-old son gets charged with murdering a girl from his school. What makes this show different is how each episode will be filmed. The whole episode will play out in one continuous shot, like watching everything unfold in real-time. It kinda reminds me of the movie “Boiling Point” by Philip Barantini, who’s actually directing “Adolescence” too.

Stephen Graham leads a killer cast as the dad, Eddie Miller. Joining him are Ashley Walters as Detective Luke Bascombe and Erin Doherty as psychologist Briony Ariston, who’s helping with the case. Newcomer...

Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters and Erin Doherty are fronting a splashy one-shot Netflix series from the creators of Boiling Point and co-produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.

The Irishman star Graham is also creating and writing Adolescence with Jack Thorne, while Philip Barantini is directing.

Unveiled at a Netflix UK showcase earlier this year, Adolescence tells the story of how a family’s world is turned upside down when 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) is arrested and charged with the murder of a teenage girl who goes to his school. Graham will play Jamie’s father and ‘appropriate adult’, Eddie Miller. Walters stars as Detective Inspector Bascombe, and Doherty is Briony Ariston, the clinical psychologist assigned to Jamie’s case.

Adolescence is currently filming in the UK. As with the Boiling Point movie and TV series, each episode is filmed in one unflinching continuous shot, holding focus on...

Philip Barantini
Philip Barantini’s Adolescence starts production
Philip Barantini
Philip Barantini’s latest one-shot project Adolescence has just gone into production and will star Stephen Graham. More on the project below.

2021’s Boiling Point was a raving success for writer-director Philip Barantini. The film, shot all in one take, followed Stephen Graham’s hard-headed chef Andy on one of the busiest nights at his restaurant, Jones & Sons. The film, which ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, spawned a series which aired on BBC in late 2023.

Now, Barantini is moving away from Jones & Sons and into a new project, currently known as Adolescence, although that might change. Barantini is directing all four episodes of Adolescence for Netflix while Graham is credited as the creator and writer with Jack Thorne. The series has now gone into production and is filming in the UK.

The series reunites Barantini with Graham, but the pair are joined by a very starry cast.

Rajkummar Rao in Trapped (2016)
Noir City: Hollywood — The 21st Annual Los Angeles Festival of Film Noir
Rajkummar Rao in Trapped (2016)
Noir City: Hollywood — The 21st Annual Los Angeles Festival of Film NoirBy Alex Divine DeleonThe Noir City Festival has now come of age and the 21st edition which opened at the venerable Hollywood landmark Egyptian Theatre on Friday, March 29, 2019, will this year display twenty uncut gems on ten consecutive nights running in strict chronological order from ‘Trapped’ (1949) to ‘Cry Tough’ (1959). In essence a cannily selected survey of the Hollywood decade of the fifties from an underbelly angle such as only the Film Noir Foundation has the guts and integrity to reveal. Many of these old pictures have been rescued from oblivion by the cutting edge preservation skills of the UCLA film department.

Think the 1950s were buttoned-down and conservative? Think again.

In the 2019 edition of Noir City: Hollywood you will experience the rush — through a lens, darkly — of a turbulent and transitional time in American history, culture, and cinema. Nothing would ever be the same.

Lead Actors: The Overlooked and Underrated
This article is dedicated to Andrew Copp: filmmaker, film writer, artist and close friend who passed away on January 19, 2013. You are loved and missed, brother.

****

Looking at the Best Actor Academy Award nominations for the film year 2012, the one miss that clearly cries out for more attention is Liam Neeson’s powerful performance in Joe Carnahan’s excellent survival film The Grey, easily one of the best roles of Neeson’s career.

In Neeson’s case, his lack of a nomination was a case of neglect similar to the Albert Brooks snub in the Best Supporting Actor category for the film year 2011 for Drive(Nicolas Winding Refn, USA).

Along with negligence, other factors commonly prevent outstanding lead acting performances from getting the kind of critical attention they deserve. Sometimes it’s that the performance is in a film not considered “Oscar material” or even worthy of any substantial critical attention.
