“We need this man back in Office”: It’s Insane How Barack Obama’s Meeting With Team USA Looks Exactly Like a Key & Peele Skit
Image
Former President Barack Obama reportedly visited the USA Men’s Basketball team earlier this week as they celebrated USA Basketball’s 50th Anniversary ahead of their journey to the Olympics. Obama reportedly wished the team luck while also honoring legendary hall of famers of the sport.

A video of Obama congratulating Team USA has now gone viral. Obama’s interactions with the players and the coaches of the team were pointed out to be awfully similar to a Key & Peele skit that sees a parody of President Obama (at the time) treating different supporters differently.

Barack Obama Unwittingly Recreates Famous Key & Peele Skit Barack Obama | Credits: CBS News

Before Jordan Peele became a modern-day horror auteur and Keegan Michael-Key became an accomplished actor, the two were hosts and participants of the sketch show Key & Peel. The Comedy Central show saw the duo perform in multiple filmed sketches which parodied current affairs at the time.

1. Headlines

Grey’s Anatomy, Will Trent, Death and Other Details, and Avatar: The Last Airbender lead the week’s industry headlines.

2. March Madness

TV Ratings: Iowa-lsu NCAA Rematch Sets All-Time Record for Women’s Basketball
Image
Last year’s NCAA women’s basketball championship set an all-time ratings record for a women’s game on ESPN. A rematch of that game — albeit two rounds earlier in the tournament — on Monday night drew an even bigger crowd.

Iowa’s 94-87 victory over Lsu averaged 12.3 million viewers for ESPN, the largest TV audience ever for a women’s basketball game in the United States. The previous record was set more than 40 years ago, when CBS’ broadcast of the 1983 title game — featuring USC legend Cheryl Miller — drew 11.83 million people. Lsu’s 102-85 win in last year’s championship game was the previous ESPN record, drawing 9.9 million viewers across ABC and ESPN2.

The Iowa-lsu game was by far the most watched show in primetime Monday, more than doubling the audience for the biggest program (CBS’ NCIS at 5.9 million) on the broadcast networks.

Monday’s late game, Connecticut’s 80-73 win over USC,...

Guest Column: ‘Queen Sugar’ Helmer DeMane Davis on How Ava DuVernay’s Decision to Hire All Female Directors Offered “Life-Transforming Opportunity”
Image
Click here to read the full article.

My wood floor is barely visible. I’m organizing, which inevitably turns into sitting and thumbing through remnants from episodes of TV shows I’ve had the honor to direct. I have Post-Its in every size. Call sheets and shot lists that have made their way home in pockets and backpacks. (I’m still not fully down with Scriptation — don’t tell Rachel Raimist and Valerie Weiss!) And I have piles of scripts. The tallest stack is from Queen Sugar.

There is no way to quickly answer what Ava DuVernay’s decision to push for hiring female directors on Queen Sugar has done for my career other than to say I don’t think I would have a career directing for television if she didn’t. Ava making this decision, and Oprah Winfrey agreeing (the series airs on OWN), ushered an incredibly needed change into the industry.

Good Bones: Is Cory Married? What To Know About His Family & Relationship
Image
Cory Miller of HGTV's Good Bones may seem like any regular employee of a home renovation company, but the reality TV personality has a lot more going on with his family and other relationships than fans realize. Cory joined the team in 2016 and has been working for Two Chicks and a Hammer ever since. While he isn't shown as frequently on Good Bones as Mina Starsiak or Karen E. Laine, fans are still very interested in what's going on with Cory.

While Cory may be employed by Mina and Karen, who runs the Good Bones home renovation company in Indianapolis, Two Chicks and a Hammer, he isn't always involved with the mother-daughter duo. In fact, Cory mostly works with the company's property specialist, Thadeus Starsiak. The fan-favorite has made his mark on Good Bones for his construction expertise. While many fans have been led to believe he's a member...

‘The Woman King’ Director Gina Prince-Bythewood Doesn’t Take No for an Answer
Image
This story about Gina Prince-Bythewood first appeared in the College Issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.

On a warm October afternoon in Westwood, Gina Prince-Bythewood walked between buildings on the UCLA campus and grinned. “It looks like nothing’s changed,” she said as she took a shortcut from the School of Theater, Film and Television’s Melnitz Hall to the nearby Freud Playhouse. “Even the paint looks the same.” She laughed. “I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not.”

Of course, Prince-Bythewood is an unabashed booster of UCLA’s Tft, from which she graduated in 1991. And paint color notwithstanding, there have definitely been changes since she spent time in these halls: For instance, the James Bridges Theater, where many of her student films screened, had yet to be updated and upgraded when she was here, and the framed posters that lined the lobby definitely didn’t include her own film debut,...

Cheryl Miller and Pam Jackson went missing in a case that went cold for over 40 years
This week Gone examines the tragic case of Cheryl Miller and Pam Jackson, who went missing on a drive and were not seen again for more than 40 years. It was 1971 and end of the school year in Vermillion, S.D., when Pamela Jackson and Cheryl Miller decided to head for a party with their friends from school out at a local quarry. They never showed and at first nobody thought anything of it as the pair were not exactly party animals. However, alarm bells were raised when they and their 1960 Studebaker car seemingly disappeared entirely. The boys in the car they […]

DVD Review: "Clarence The Cross-eyed Lion" (1965) Starring Marshall Thompson
Image
"We Want Our DVD And Blu-ray!" - It always frustrates retro movie lovers when a film becomes unavailable in a home video format. Even "B" movies deserve a better fate. Sometimes this is due to contractual and licensing reasons. Nevertheless, we always want to be on the tip of the spear in lobbying for unavailable movies to be brought back to the home video market. In that regard, we are running our previously published review of "Clarence, the Cross-Eyed Lion", a minor effort, to be sure, but one that we hope will be available again on DVD or Blu-ray. It is presently available for streaming rental or purchase on Amazon.)

By Lee Pfeiffer

The Warner Archive has released a number of films made by Ivan Tors' production company during the 1960s. Tors specialized in underwater and animal-themed adventure movies and TV series and he had a number of major successes including Sea Hunt,...
