Christopher Miles was born in London, England. He studied at at IDHEC - the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques in Paris, and directed The Six Sided Triangle (1963), which was Academy Award nominated. He went on to direct La vierge et le gitan (1970) which was nominated for a Golden Gobe, Le veinard (1975), Alternative 3 (1977), Priest of Love (1981), The Clandestine Marriage (1998) and Les bonnes (1975), which he also co-wrote.
