Pui Fan Lee, John Simmit, Nikky Smedley, and Dave Thompson in Les Télétubbies (1997)
7 Times the Teletubbies Made TV a Much Weirder Place
Pui Fan Lee, John Simmit, Nikky Smedley, and Dave Thompson in Les Télétubbies (1997)
As news emerges that Netflix is planning to reboot the Teletubbies this November, narrated by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s Tituss Burgess, there have been mixed reactions. Some are pleased to see this ’90s favourite of kids’ TV – which has attained cult status over the years – returning once again, while others still find the show too creepy and psychedelic.

Regardless of how you feel about this children’s TV classic, the Teletubbies have certainly provided us with some weird moments over the years. Let’s activate our antennae and take a look at our tummy screens as we relive these surreal Teletubbies appearances “again, again!”

When an episode got banned

Back in 1997, one of the original episodes of the Teletubbies featured a section called The Lion and The Bear, in which a cut-out lion on wheels chases a cut-out bear on wheels (voiced by none other than British sitcom royalty Penelope Keith...

Robot Wars: revisiting the original show
Aaron Birch Jul 22, 2016

Ahead of the return of Robot Wars to BBC Two, we revisit the classic original run of the show...

3. 2. 1. Activate!

In early February 1998 a new TV game show surfaced on BBC Two, one that was about as different as anything we'd ever seen. It didn't feature general knowledge questions or sprints around a super market, it was equal parts testosterone and techno-geek chic. It was, of course, Robot Wars and it would quickly become one of the most popular programmes on TV.

Before appearing on UK TV, Robot Wars was first dreamt up over the pond. The story goes that a Lucasfilm-employed toy designer by the name of Marc Thorpe came up with the idea in 1992 while failing to build a remote control vacuum cleaner. The results ended up being less about cleanliness, and more about carnage. This unexpected turn out made Thorpe realise that radio controlled...

Love Island: Paul Danan will return for tonight's live show with Caroline Flack
ITV2 have finally answered our requests - original Celebrity Love Islander Paul Danan will be returning on tonight's live show.

The 36-year-old former Hollyoaks star appeared on the first ever celebrity edition of the series back in 2005, which saw him compete against eventual winners Jayne Middlemiss and Fran Cosgrave.

Danan returned to the show a year later, and spent the majority of his time tearfully fighting with or really fancying former model Sophie Anderton.

After one memorable blow-out, he was even escorted off set by security after he discovered that fellow celebrity contestants had all pretended that Anderton really liked him when in fact she just wanted to be friends. Or enemies.

And who can forget her somewhat dismissive observation: "You can do sit-ups?"

Danan also had some heated exchanges with retired basketball star Dennis Rodman and another former Hollyoaks actor, Lee Otway, during his time on the show.

Tonight,...

Love Island's Calum Best is back: 'Boys, we're are going for a night out in Magaluf'
Original Love Islander Calum Best is back on tonight's episode (June 29), ten years after taking part in the first celebrity edition of the show.

Turning up at the villa in the evening unannounced, he shouts out to the unsuspecting contestants: "Love Island... What's up!"

The 34-year-old reality TV star reveals he's there to take the boys on a lads' night out in Magaluf, much to the dismay of the girls.

Jess Hayes can't quite contain her glee as she says: "We're in the villa, going about our own business, and who rocks up? Callum f**king Best."

Calum addresses the excited islanders: "So, I was lucky enough ten years ago to take part in the original Love Island, and I ended up winning it, so it was a great experience, great memories.

"Boys... You and me are going for a night out in Magaluf. Let's go!"

The guys can't believe their ears,...

Love Island 2005: What happened to winner Jayne Middlemiss? Or love god Lee Sharpe? We find out!
Remember the first ever Love Island with its seemingly clueless single celebrities constantly bickering on a tumultuous and stormy (literally and metaphorically) Fijian island?

Even the show's co-hosts Kelly Brook and Patrick Kielty were baying for one another's blood when Kielty decided to declare during one live show that Brook had previously dated contestant Paul Danan.

Other memorable highlights included Abi Titmuss becoming more and more enraged as Fran Cosgrave repeatedly referred to her as Vanessa Feltz, swiftly followed by a tipsy and uncouth Rebecca Loos letting rip.

The series aired almost exactly a decade ago, so we found ourselves wondering - whatever happened to eventual winner Jayne Middlemiss? And the Love Island love god that was Lee Sharpe?

As the new non-celebrity series currently enjoys its ITV2 revival, we find out what the 12 star contestants have gone on to do since their 2005 stint below:

Jayne Middlemiss

Love Island winner...

Love Island to return on ITV2 with members of the public
ITV has confirmed that Love Island is returning to screens.

The show originally aired between 2005 and 2006 with the aim of pairing up celebrities - but this time it will air on ITV2 and aim to match members of the public instead.

"Our singles will live like celebrities but have to win the hearts of the public to survive," said ITV Studios creative director of entertainment Richard Cowles. "Will they pursue true love or are they just playing a game? The new look Love Island will decide."

ITV's director of digital and acquisitions Angela Jain added: "The all-new, revamped and reworked Love Island promises excitement, surprises and fun for ITV2 viewers."

ITV has already begun its search for vibrant singles, who will spend six weeks loved-up in a villa.

Jayne Middlemiss and Fran Cosgrave won the first series of Love Island, while Bianca Gascoigne and Calum Best won the second series.
