Exclusive: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania actress Kathryn Newton and Coyote vs. Acme star Lana Condor are headlining Amazon MGM Studios’ Devil’s Mouth, from director Jeff Wadlow.

The survival thriller, a co-production with Lionsgate, follows college friends who on a trip to get to Thailand who get trapped in an underwater cave system with a bull shark. Old tensions and power struggles resurface as they fight to survive.

Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner wrote the script, which was featured on the 2019 Black List, with latest revisions by Wadlow.

Producers include Thunder Road Films’ Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, and Wadlow. Thunder Road is natch, behind the John Wick movies. Carsten Lorenz will executive produce. Chelsea Kujawa will oversee for Lionsgate. Helen Lee-Kim and Michael Meyer negotiated the deal on behalf of Lionsgate.

Helen Lee-Kim has re-upped her contract as president, international, for Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. Lee-Kim has generated nearly $1 billion in sales since re-joining the studio in December of 2017. She will continue to head the international licensing of Lionsgate’s slate of first-run movies while shepherding the company’s multi-platform and global direct-to-streaming business.

Her most recent successes include “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which earned $253 million out of $440 million overseas, a 62% international uptick from “John Wick: Chapter 3.” While “Saw X,” which earned by far the best reviews of the ongoing horror franchise, is near $100 million global on a $13 million budget as it continues its overseas rollout.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group executive Helen Lee-Kim has inked a new long-term deal as President, International.

The news comes before Lionsgate takes over the world this holiday season with the highly anticipated prequel, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes on Nov. 17, which was cleared for a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement; one of the few Hollywood tentpoles this fall season permitted to have its cast promote.

“Helen is a superstar whose success in growing the John Wick and Saw franchises worldwide is just the latest example of her ability to grow the studio’s stature as a top supplier of premium first-run films,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake. “She is a trusted partner, a great leader and an extraordinary sales executive who will continue to play a key role in moving the Company forward.”

Helen Lee-Kim has signed a new long-term deal as president of international at Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

Lionsgate said Lee-Kim, a member of the Motion Picture Group leadership and content strategy teams, has generated nearly $1bn in sales since re-joining Lionsgate in December 2017 (she did a previous stint as president of international from 2007 to 2012). Lee-Kim has generated nearly $1 billion in sales since rejoining the company in December 2017, according to the company. She will continue to head the international licensing of Lionsgate’s movies in theaters and on digital platforms.

Lionsgate has inked a new long-term contract extension for Helen Lee-Kim as president, international in the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.

Since rejoining the Hollywood studio in late 2017 as a longtime lieutenant to Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Joe Drake, Lee-Kim has generated nearly $1 billion in sales and will continue to head the international licensing of Lionsgate’s first-run movies and handle sales to expanding multi-platform and global direct-to-streaming business.

“Helen is a superstar whose success in growing the John Wick and Saw franchises worldwide is just the latest example of her ability to grow the studio’s stature as a top supplier of premium first-run films,” Drake said in a statement on Thursday.

‘Sisu,’ a TIFF Midnight Madness Favorite, Acquired by Lionsgate

Lionsgate emerged victorious from a competitive bidding war over Finnish film “Sisu,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews.

The Midnight Madness favorite will be released in U.S. theaters on a to-be-announced date. Sony’s Stage 6 Films financed the film and will handle international rights, with the exception of Nordics, which are held by Nordisk Film.

Written and directed by Jalmari Helander, “Sisu” begins in 1945 when ex-soldier Aatami (Jorma Tommila) discovers a golden treasure trove buried in the Finnish wilderness. On his way back into the city, a group of Nazis find his fortune, kicking into motion an outrageous, bloody revenge plot to recover what was stolen from him. Aksel Hennie, Jack Doolan, Mimosa Willamo and Onni Tommila co-star.

‘Sisu’: TIFF Midnight Madness Pic From Stage 6 Picked Up By Lionsgate

Exclusive: After receiving rave reviews from its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival which instigated a bidding war, Sony’s Stage 6 Finnish feature Sisu has been scooped up by Lionsgate. The film will receive a theatrical release at some point in the future.

The movie is from filmmaker Jalmari Helander and follows Aatami, an ex-soldier in 1945 who discovers gold in the deep wilderness of Finland while on his way into the city. Brutal Nazis on a scorched-earth mission discover his treasure trove. He must go through outrageous lengths to get his gold back – even if it means killing every last Nazi. Aatami is portrayed by the filmmaker’s long-time collaborator Jorma Tommila.
