Former director of the creative writing program at the University of Texas-Austin. Author of 18 books including "Ladies of the Court: Grace and Disgrace of the Women's Tennis Circuit" (1993) and "Short Circuit: Six Months on the Men's Professional Tennis Tour" (1983).
