Review: If there’s one horror movie I’ve been looking forward to all year, practically causing me to bounce with excitement, it’s Jimmy and Stiggs. Joe Begos‘ latest has always promised to be a splatterfest of epic proportions and, with Eli Roth’s Horror Section Studios acquiring it, all signs pointed towards a potential cult classic. And I’m happy to say that it’s everything you would expect from it and more, providing an absolute cacophony of chaos. I loved every minute of it.

Eli Roth, the horror filmmaker most famous for movies like Cabin Fever and Thanksgiving, has decided to give underrated filmmaker Joe Begos a chance to play his latest film on the big screen. The neon-splattered alien abduction flick took its filmmaker, star, and practical effects wizard Joe Begos four years and roughly $200,000 to make. Genre impresario Eli Roth loved it instantly, and after launching the Horror Section earlier this spring, his new label acquired “Jimmy & Stiggs” for a wide release. As such a wide franchise, Dungeons & Dragons has corners that not even all D&D fans know about, ranging from a tabletop game and video game to movies and books. But Dark Elf Drizzt Do'Urden and his arch-nemesis need little introduction.

Drizzt Do'Urden originated in R.A. Salvatore's The Icewind Dale book trilogy in 1988 but has gone on to feature in 39 books that have a semi-cult following. The erotic thriller follows a young woman, lost in a series of meaningless connections, as she falls in love with a charismatic and sensitive man — who turns out to be hiding a dark secret that transforms her affair into a dangerous obsession.

“The Dead Thing” is Elric Kane’s solo feature debut. Viz Media, a major anime licensor and distributor of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime series, has announced the release date for its final box set in English dubbed, finally bringing the first series to an end.

Via Viz Media's official X (formerly Twitter), the final installment of the Boruto anime series on video, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations - Farewell, will be released on Aug. 13, 2024. Little Bat Games’ debut title in the darkly humorous Vampire Therapist is out today on Steam. Inspired by the likes of What We Do in the Shadows and Horrible Histories, Vampire Therapist merges a comedic style with “deep, introspective subject matters and heartfelt characters and real-life historical personalities.”

The story sees players step into the boots of Sam, a cowboy (and vampire) from the Old West who is looking to change his murderous ways and connect with what’s left of his soul. Yellow Veil Pictures has boarded worldwide sales for Cannes on Elric Kane’s feature The Dead Thing, which it was announced on Thursday will premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in July.

Described as a contemporary haunted romance and urban legend for the internet dating app era, the film follows a young woman who, lost in a string of meaningless hook-ups, falls in love with a sensitive and charismatic man harbouring a dark secret that turns their affair into a twisted obsession.

Critical Role may consider leaving DnD 5e due to a number of factors with the game itself and its publisher. The company is developing its own Ttrpg, Daggerheart, to possibly replace DnD. The potential release of DnD 5.5e in late 2024 could influence Critical Role's decision to switch systems.

Critical Role has used Dungeons & Dragons' fifth edition ever since it debuted back in 2015. With its simple, easy to understand mechanics, well-known reputation, and relatively fast gameplay for a tabletop game, it made it the perfect system for the streaming show, so much so that other shows, like Dimension 20, have followed in the same vein. Still, with the constant controversy that Wizards of the Coast seems to find itself in, Critical Role could look at leaving the system behind.

This wouldn't be the first time the Critical Role cast has switched systems, nor would it be the first big company to leave the IP behind.

Critical Role's Daggerheart enters beta testing, offering Domain Cards and d12 dice as unique features for TTRPGs. Daggerheart's success depends on distinguishing itself from D&d, which could be difficult given the similarity in classes and races. With Critical Role's devoted fanbase, Daggerheart has the potential to achieve success, especially if Matt Mercer adopts it for a new campaign.

Critical Role has aided in the recent resurgence of Dungeons & Dragons, being its biggest live game stream. For some, the show is the reason they got into D&d's fifth edition, and it is the gold standard as to what 5e can be, yet Matt Mercer and the cast seem intent on distancing themselves from Wizards of the Coast. As of March 2024, Daggerheart, Cr's very own fantasy tabletop RPG, has entered beta testing.

Some will be surprised to know that Critical Role did not start life as a D&d campaign.

Baldur's Gate 3 players can now incorporate items from Critical Role into their game for a fun and unique experience. The Vestiges of Divergence mod adds powerful gear like Cabal's Ruin and Fenthras to Baldur's Gate. Players can choose to equip more than three Vestiges at once, potentially creating an unbeatable character in the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 players looking to show off their love for the beloved series Critical Role can now do so with some exceptionally well-crafted items pulled directly from the show. Given that both are inspired by and make use of the rules of Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, it makes sense that some creative fans would find a way to unite Matt Mercer's ever-popular campaign with Larian Studios' RPG. While plenty of mods already exist that incorporate characters and locations from Critical Role, this creation is more subtle and, arguably, much more fun.
