More sad news on the Coronavirus front as several actors and artists have passed away from the deadly disease sweeping the globe. Actor Jay Benedict died Monday from the disease at age 68. He is best known in the states for roles in 1986's classic sci-fi thriller Aliens and 2012's blockbuster hit The Dark Knight Rises. Overseas he is perhaps best known for his starring role in the U.K. TV series Emmerdale.

The news of Jay Benedict's death was first reported by Tcg Artist Management's Kristin Tarry. She has represented the actor for over twenty years. She had this to say about his death on Monday.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear client Jay Benedict, who this afternoon lost his battle with Covid-19. Our thoughts are with his family."

ITV have announced that the Iconic British series, Thunderbirds will be back on our screens this spring with Part 1 airing on Citv.

As well as the likes of Thomas Brodie-Sangster (watch our interview with him here from the Newport Beach awards), Rasmus Hardiker, David Menkin, Kayvan Novak, Rosamund Pike and David Graham, the new season will introduce multiple award-winning actress Ruth Jones, playing an unflappable rig driver, and Ben Bailey Smith as Jensen Hunt to the cast.

As well as the new cast members, two new characters are added to make up a villainous coalition, The Choas Crew – Havoc (a master thief and pilot) and Fuse (a hulking demolition expert). The upcoming new Thunderbird Are Go! series looks like it has potential to be something cool that fans will enjoy. Everything that's been released so far has looked really cool, but today we bring you one of the best things that I've seen yet. It's a video tour of the locations that will be used in the series, and the detail is stunning.

What makes these so awesome is the fact that they are practical physical miniature sets that were built by the talented wizards over at Weta Workshop. The sets include the Tracy brothers’ island base and several other locations. You can get your first look at the Tracy brothers in the series here.

A couple of weeks ago, we got our first teaser trailer for the upcoming series Thunderbirds Are Go! All it included was a distress call and a glimpse at the redesigned Thunderbird 5. Coming to the small screen later this year is the CGI reboot series Thunderbirds Are Go!, which trades its traditional marionette puppets for a more modern animated design. After delivering a very brief teaser over the Christmas holiday, ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures have today unveiled a first look at the famous Tracey family as they prepare for their first mission into space.

Weta Workshop, who famously worked on The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Trilogies, are responsible for the VFX in this new series. We've seen Tracy Island, we've heard a teaser distress call, but here is our first proper look at the CGI-rendered Tracy Brothers from forthcoming ITV series, Thunderbirds Are Go!

Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon and Alan have had a One Direction-style makeover for the new twenty-six part series, which is due to arrive on ITV this spring. 

Thunderbirds Are Go! features the voice talents of Rosamund Pike as Lady Penelope, original voice cast member David Graham as Parker, Kayan Novak as Brains, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, David Menkin and Rasmus Hardiker as the Tracy Brothers. Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy's Sandra Dickinson will be providing the voice of Grandma Tracy, alongside Merlin's Angel Coulby and Doctor Who's Adjoa Andoh as newcomer Kayo and Colonel Casey respectively.

Thunderbirds Are Go has released the first picture of the new-look Tracy brothers.

Brothers Scott, Virgil, Alan, Gordon and John are pictured in front of Tracy Island in the new promotional image for the reboot, which will air on Citv in 2015.

The Tracy brothers will be voiced by David Menkin (Virgil and Gordon), Rasmus Hardiker (Alan and Scott) and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (John).

Gone Girlstar and Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike is playing Lady Penelope in the new series, with her employee Parker being voiced by original actor David Graham. Brains will be voiced by Fonejacker's Kayvan Novak.

The long-running children's show is returning to screens to mark its 50th anniversary.

The reboot has been produced using a mix of CGI animation and live-action model sets.

ITV has already commissioned a second series of Thunderbirds Are Go, which will air across 2016 and 2017.

ITV has teased its reboot of 1960s show Thunderbirds, which follows the new adventures of the Tracy family and International Rescue.

Led by father Jeff, the five Tracy brothers (Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon, and Alan) operate the secretive group and carry out rescue missions in Thunderbird vehicles one through five.

2015 is the 50th anniversary of the original show, which was created by Gerry Anderson.

Anderson originally used marionette puppets, also popularised in his other shows Stingray and Captain Scarlet.

The new ITV series Thunderbirds Are Go! will also employ CGI and live action sets.

A second series of the show, which will air on Citv, has already been ordered by the broadcaster before the first has been aired.

Based on the original 1965 series Thunderbirds, this new adventure show will be a mix of CGI and Stop-Motion animation. ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures are producing Thunderbirds Are Go!, featuring effects from the famed Weta Workshop, the team responsible for The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogies. Rosamund Pike leads the voice cast as Lady Penelope. She is joined by David Graham, who reprises his role as chauffeur and International Rescue agent Parker.

Thunderbirds Are Go has been renewed for a second series.

ITV has ordered a 26-episode second series of the reboot for Citv, which will air across 2016 and 2017.

The first series of Thunderbirds Are Go is set to debut in 2015 to mark the 50th anniversary of the classic show.

Jamila Metran, Head of Programming for Citv, said: "I am delighted to confirm that a second series of Thunderbirds Are Go has been commissioned for Citv.

"We are so excited for the launch of our reboot of the iconic children's show and look forward to bringing the adventures of the five Tracy brothers to our audiences in 2015."

Gone Girl's Rosamund Pike is playing Lady Penelope in the new series, with her employee Parker being voiced by original actor David Graham.

Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel and the sales team have closed deals in Scandinavia (Mis.Label); Latin America excluding Mexico (Swen); Benelux (A-Film Benelux Rechten); Poland (Monolith); Portugal (Pris Audiovisuais); and the former Yugoslavia (Blitz Film).

Icon Film Distribution acquires UK rights for Tom Tykwer’s A Hologram For The King starring Tom Hanks.

A Hologram for the King, a comedic drama starring Tom Hanks and directed by Tom Tykwer, has been acquired by Icon Film Distribution for the UK.

Tykwer, the German filmmaker behind Run Lola Run and Cloud Atlas, also adapted the script from the eponymous novel by Dave Eggers.

Hanks co-stars with Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Omar Elba (Intelligence), Tracey Fairaway (Enough Said), David Menkin (Zero Dark Thirty) and Tom Skerritt (Ted, Top Gun).

Hanks plays Alan Clay, an American salesmen who finds himself in Saudi Arabia making a desperate bid to save his ailing career after the construction of a huge new complex in the middle of the desert.

The film is currently in post-production, following shooting in Morocco, Germany, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Remember the British TV series from the 1960s, Thunderbirds? The puppet, action, sci-fi epic series holds a special place in the heart of a certain generation and now the folks from ITV Studios are hoping for it to catch on with an all-new audience. The series is going to be relaunched in 2015, with the name Thunderbirds Are Go, and they've tapped Weta to handle the effects for the update- which will use a combination of miniature sets and CG characters. The original was filmed using a technique that creator Gerry Anderson called Super Mario Nation (I like that!)...oh wait, I'm sorry. That's Supermarionation.

Hanks plays Alan Clay, a foundering American businessman who finds himself in the middle of the desert trying to make a business deal, with unanticipated surprises along the way.

The film also stars Sarita Choudhury, Omar Elba, Tracey Fairaway, David Menkin, and Tom Skerritt.

Along with The Wachowskis, Hanks and Tykwer previously worked together on the 2012 film Cloud Atlas. In 2013, the Oscar winning actor starred in Saving Mr. Banks and Captain Phillips.

Well, Hanks clearly liked working with Tykwer, and now the fruits of their second collaboration, also based on a well-received novel, are finally seeing the light. THR has debuted the first image from "A Hologram For The King," based on the book by Dave Eggers. Hanks is the biggest name in the cast that features Sarita Choudhury, Omar Elba, Tracey Fairaway, David Menkin and Tom Skerritt, with the dramedy following a desperate American salesman who heads to Saudi Arabia to land a lucrative It contract. Presumably cultures will clash, and this seemingly fish-out-of-water tale looks perfect for Hanks' sensibility so we're curious to see how it turns out. No word yet on release dates or anything like that, so this image will have to suffice for now.
