    • Gus Meins was born on March 6, 1893 in Los Angeles, California, USA. He was a director and writer, known for Kelly the Second (1936), Earl of Puddlestone (1940) and Nobody's Baby (1937). He was married to Mary Berge Lewis. He died on August 1, 1940 in La Crescenta, California, USA.

  • Commited suicide after being released on bail from an arrest on a morals charge.
  • Father of actor Douglas Meins.
  • Directed silent serials, most well known was the Buster Brown series at Stern Bros.
  • From 1937 until his death Meins directed B features for Republic Pictures. He produced and directed the "Higgins Family" series, Republic's answer to MGM's popular "Andy Hardy" films.
  • Meins replaced Robert F. McGowan as principal director of the "Our Gang" (aka "The Little Rascals") comedies, making 16 shorts from 1934 to 1936.
