Paul Feig at an event for Jackpot! (2024)
In today’s film news roundup, Paul Feig is honored by exhibitors, the American Film Market unveils its conference schedule, Luke Goss gets cast and “Philophobia: or the Fear of Falling in Love” finds a home.

Awards

The National Association of Theatre Owners has honored filmmaker Paul Feig with its second annual spirit of the industry award.

Feig was presented the honor on Monday night as part of Nato’s annual fall meetings at the Beverly Hilton, attended by more than 200 exhibitors.

“When it comes to believing in the full-on theatrical experience, and the magic that ensues when the lights go down in a darkened auditorium, Paul Feig has no equal,” noted Nato president and CEO John Fithian.

Feig’s new romantic comedy, “Last Christmas,” hits theaters on Nov. 8. The Universal film stars Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson, and was written by Thompson and playwright Bryony Kimmings.

Following her firing from her job at the Sacramento post, a romantic getaway is just what Brea and her boyfriend John need. Brea and John are forced into a deadly fight for their lives against a ring of criminals who will stop at nothing to protect their secrets.

On paper Traffik sounds like a cracking thriller reminiscent of the classic thrillers of the 90s – high concept, with a solid cast and a story that touches...

Official Trailer for Mountain Retreat Thriller 'Traffik' with Paula Patton
"Let's get away from the city... It's miles away from everything." Lionsgate has released the official trailer for a thriller titled Traffik, the latest from writer/director Deon Taylor. The film stars Paula Patton and Omar Epps as a couple who set off for a retreat in the mountains, but are accosted by a biker gang, who then go after them once they reach their isolated vacation rental home. The full cast includes Laz Alonso, Roselyn Sanchez, Luke Goss, Dawn Olivieri, Claude Duhamel, and Lorin McCraley. It looks like your standard angry-white-people-home-invasion thriller, where the nice people have to fight back to save themselves. I'd rather go see Breaking In, which looks like a much better twist on this concept. Have a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ official poster) for Deon Taylor's Traffik, direct from YouTube: A couple (Paula Patton, Omar Epps) off for a romantic weekend in...
