Star Trek and Stargate are two of the most prolific and beloved science fiction franchises, and it is no surprise that actors would overlap between the two series. Both Star Trek and Stargate had shows running throughout most of the 1990s and early 2000s, and many actors made appearances on both shows. Star Trek and Stargate often borrowed episode titles and even plots from one another. Each Stargate series follows a different team of adventurers as they explore various planets by traveling through a massive Stargate that was discovered in the ruins of Giza.
The Stargate franchise began with the Stargate feature film in 1994 and would continue with three television series and two made-for-television movies. The first of these was Stargate: Sg-1 (which concluded with two movies), followed by Stargate: Atlantis, and Stargate: Universe. With ten seasons, Sg-1 was the longest-running genre show until the CW's Supernatural claimed that honor with its fifteen seasons.

On Saturday, the stars of Stargate Atlantis reunited for a panel at Comic-Con@Home, reminiscing about their first Comic-Con appearance as cast members, their initial perceptions of the show and more.
Kicking off the discussion of the cast’s first convention appearance was Rainbow Sun Francks. The actor, who played Lt. Aiden Ford, remembered that his first Comic-Con as part of Stargate was “crazy,” which led David Nykl and other cast members to chime in with further details.
“It was really daunting,” said Nykl, who played Dr. Radek Zelenka. “You’ve got to develop this sort of onstage convention personality, which is like a hybrid between your character and yourself. We had to learn that.”
Actress Torri Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) recalled that “the studio gave us all free liquor the night before” the panel. Naturally, then, she and her co-stars ended up with “a hangover that only new actors with free liquor would have.

Nothing is worse than when crime doesn't pay off, especially when that crime is murder.
On Saturday, March 6, Lifetime continues its Ripped from the Headlines series with Circle of Deception. It's an Ann Rule inspired thriller starring none other than Law & Order: Svu's finest, Diane Neal.
It also serves as the directorial debut of Lifetime veteran actress Ashley Williams. Lifetime is always a network whose focus is on uplifting women and giving them opportunities.
During this Women's History Month, it's lovely to see that they're as passionate about helping women expand their worlds beyond the camera as they are in front of it.
If you previously missed the Circe of Deception Promo, then you should know that this is a wonderfully twisted true-crime tale of a scandalous murder that takes place in a small Rhode Island community that changed everything.

Stockard Channing was 33 when she played teenager Rizzo in Grease. Angelia Jolie was 29 when she played Colin Farrell’s mother in Alexander – only one year older than he was.
Films and shows cast actors outside their own age all the time, and it’s not unusual for actors to be aged up or aged down when a show or film takes place over a long time period, but in Firefly Lane this really jars.

Love, loss and lifelong friendship is at the heart of Netflix’s latest binge worthy drama. Based on Kristin Hannah’s novel of the same name, Firefly Lane follows the decades-long friendship of Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) who meet as teen neighbors living on the titular street and are bonded by a chance encounter after a traumatic event. Over ten episodes the show follows the friends at different stages of their lives – as teenage girls, as young women embarking on careers and family and as forty-somethings juggling different sets of life events

If you combine Lifetime, Ann Rule, and the esteemed Diane Neal, you get another ripped from the headlines thriller that will have you on the edge of your seats.
Circle of Deception is the latest Ann Rule true crime inspired piece to make it to the small screen, and as fans of the books and the Lifetime films know, they're among the strongest of the Ripped from the Headlines series.
And much like Lifetime actress Robin Givens helmed Ann Rule's A Murder to Remember, this time around, it's another network veteran, Ashley Williams, making her directorial debut.
From the promos, the standout of the film is Law & Order Svu's Diane Neal. She stars as a former Beauty Queen who orchestrates a murderous scheme.
The film is about a small island community that is rocked by the mysterious death of Russel Douglas, played by Paul McGillion, the day after Christmas.

"I came up with a genuinely original idea. And I'm the only one who's immune to it." Oh this is a good one. O.I. is a new horror short film made by South African filmmaker N'cee Van Heerden (also of Hunter's Cabin). A simple concept perfectly executed. The story is about Barry – played by Ben Cotton – after he wakes up one morning with an incredible new idea. The downside? He's the only person that can handle it. In fact, telling the idea to anyone has devastating effects. Barry may have to face this burden alone – or so he thinks. Also starring Kett Turton, Toby Hargrave, Jennnifer Nicole Stang, and Paul McGillion. The whole thing is a play on how there are no longer any original ideas, and how the moment anyone comes up with a truly unique original idea it blows minds - literally. Pretty accurate, I have to say.

"So what's the plan?" "Whatever it takes." Universal has released a third & final trailer for the high-rise disaster action movie Skyscraper, which opens in just a few weeks in the middle of July. Skyscraper stars Dwayne Johnson as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. When a fire breaks out on a gigantic, state-of-the-art skyscraper tower in China, he's framed for it, and finds himself on the run while trying to save his family trapped inside the burning skyscraper. We've been posting trailers for this already, and each one reveals even scarier action. The cast includes Pablo Schreiber, Neve Campbell, Roland Møller, Kevin Rankin, Byron Mann, Chin Han, Paul McGillion, and Adrian Holmes. I'm not sure why they felt the need to give away an entire scene in this trailer, but at least it's not all the big moments revealed.

"Just the man I was looking for...!" Universal has released a second trailer for the disaster action movie Skyscraper, following the first trailer which dropped during the Super Bowl earlier this year. Skyscraper stars Dwayne Johnson as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. When a fire breaks out on a big tower in China, he's framed for it, and finds himself on the run while trying to save his family trapped inside the burning skyscraper. This also stars Pablo Schreiber, Neve Campbell, Roland Møller, Kevin Rankin, Byron Mann, Chin Han, Paul McGillion, and Adrian Holmes. They've admitted this is inspired by Die Hard, and it certainly has that vibe, which actually makes me want to see it even more if I'm honest. This looks like it might be badass. We salute 10 memorable guest roles on Stargate Sg-1, featuring Seth, The Keeper and more...
As with our previous features, this is a list designed to celebrate the very best performances by guest actors in Stargate Sg-1. However, we did come across a couple of challenges in compiling the list for this particular series. We’ve defined ‘guest performance’ as an actor playing a character who is not a regular or recurring character – so the actor must have played the character no more than twice in this particular series (though they may have appeared more often in other branches of the franchise). Stargate Sg-1 liked to re-use its best guest characters as often as possible, frequently bringing back characters like Claudia Black’s Vala Mal Doran after what was initially a one-off appearance, which is great as the audience get to enjoy them again, but seriously reduces the number of eligible performances.

Fringe Review, Season 5, Episode 3: “The Recordist”
Written by Graham Roland
Directed by Jeff T. Thomas
Airs Fridays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
This week, on Fringe: The team follows the first, well, third, Betamax and find what is hopefully some red Observer kryptonite
The Great Betamax Hunt is on and this week, it takes our heroes to the forest, which apparently still exists in this overly mechanized future. As in the past two episodes, “The Recordist” favors character moments over action, making it at this point perhaps the most talky sci-fi series since Star Trek: the Next Generation. That’s not to discount the story we get this week, but while the notion of a community of people documenting the human perspective of this new world is interesting, and the father-son story is compelling, it’s hard not to argue that the show is beginning to feel stagnant.

Two men hear a noise in the woods and see a man wearing a mask in the shadows. One Year later a team from Atlantis find the mask. Beckett (Paul McGillion) is leaving to help others. Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) tells him they've found one of Michael's labs which he has to check out before he can go. Sheppard didn't tell Beckett there'd be so much walking involved, he complains like Rodney (David Hewlett). Sheppard is shocked to see four women heading up the Atlantis team headed by Major Teldy (Christina Cox), with Mehra, (Janina Gavankar) Alison Porter (Nicole de Boer) and Vega (Leela Savasta). He wasn't going to say his team were "a bunch of girls!" She picked the best and the brightest. Sheppard: "Funny how that worked out." They picked up a lock in the signal to the catacombs and discovered statis pods. Beckett isn't familiar with this facility.

Teyla (Rachel Luttrell) thanks Jennifer (Jewel Staite) for helping Kanaan and the others get better. Jennifer owes it to Beckett's (Paul McGillion) retrovirus and she may have found a formula to help him too. She hates seeing him in a box. Of course she'll have found a way to treat Beckett cos she'll need his help now. Rodney (David Hewlett) visits Beckett and she's surprised by Rodney, cos she likes him. Woolsey (Robert Picardo) arrives on Atlantis, well he's beamed down and doesn't have any words for them. Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) "nice speech - very inspiring." Jennifer finds a sticky substance on her hand as she awakes form falling asleep at her desk. Sheppard notices the new table in the conference room, which Woolsey brought with him. Ronon (Jason Momoa) thinks Carter did a good job as leader. Sheppard calls Sam a victim of her own success. Sam and Weir didn't stick to protocol either.

Joe Flanigan was born Joseph Harold Dunnigan III on 5th January 1967 in Los Angeles, California. He has three brothers and four sisters. His father left shortly after Joe's birth and Joe changed his surname to Flanigan after John Flanigan, his step father who adopted him. Joe spent most of his childhood at a ranch near Reno, Nevada when his family relocated there when he was aged 6. Joe attended boarding school in Ojai, California at 15. Here he had the lead role in the school production of A Streetcar Named Desire, where he played Stanley Kowalski. After he graduated high school, Joe attended the university of Colorado. Here he read for a history degree and starred in the production of Coriolanus. Joe was seen as shy (hard to believe now) and was told by a friend to take up acting as a means to alleviate his timidness. Said Joe, "At one point in college,...

Amanda Tapping in the fourth season of Stargate: Atlantis.
Amanda Tapping, Colin Ferguson, Lou Diamond Phillips, Ryan Robbins and Allison Mack will be among a host of television stars attending a gala in Vancouver on September 24th to raise funds for research into Hunter Syndrome.
The condition, also known as Mps II, is a genetic disorder that affects children. It substantially reduces their lifespan and afflicts them with a variety of degenerative symptoms that increase in severity with age. Currently there is no cure for the rare syndrome, which is estimated to affect around 2000 children worldwide.
The aim of the 1st Annual Once Upon a Cure Gala is to raise funds and awareness for research into ways to reverse the disease. This research is already yielding promising new treatments and a seven-year-old boy from North Vancouver recently became the first child in Canada to be given a new medication for the condition.

The Alcatraz TV Show Trailer has premiered. Danny Cannon‘s Alcatraz (2013), produced by J.J. Abrams, stars Sarah Jones, Sam Neill, Jorge Garcia, Parminder Nagra, and Robert Forster. Alcatraz‘s plot synopsis: “Alcatraz follows Rebecca Madsen, a police officer (Sarah Jones), and Dr. Diego Soto (Jorge Garcia), a ‘hippy geek’ who is the world’s foremost expert on Alcatraz. Both will investigate the reappearance of twenty wardens and prisoners of Alcatraz in modern day, after their mysterious disappearance fifty years ago.”
Some fool over at another website quipped that this show looked like The 4400, true, but then surmised that this plot also had something to do with aliens, wrong. Even if it were true, I doubt J.J. Abrams would ripoff a deceased USA show so blatantly. He has something crafty up his sleeve to explain the Alcatraz criminals lack of age. They were probably frozen somehow and stored like a...

The TV networks have not announced its official fall schedule yet, but most have just announced which shows have made the cut for the fall lineup. J.J. Abram’s Alcatraz has been picked up, but comic book adaptation Locke & Key didn’t make the cut to the Fox team. Wonder Woman is close to being picked up by NBC, but no official word yet.
Alcatraz “follows a team of FBI agents who try to unravel the mystery involving a group of Alcatraz prisoners and guards who vanished 30 years earlier only to reappear in the present day” and brings back a few familiar faces from the sci-fi genre: Jorge Garcia of Lost, Sam Neill of many movies and television shows, Robert Forster and Santiago Cabrera of Heroes, Paul McGillion of Stargate Atlantis, and Robert Lawrenson of Sanctuary.

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
From Prada to Nada – Camilla Belle, Alexa Vega, Kuno Becker (limited)
The Mechanic – Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland
The Rite – Colin O’Donoghue, Anthony Hopkins, Ciarán Hinds
Movie of the Week
The Mechanic
The Stars: Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland
The Plot: An elite hit man teaches his trade to an apprentice who has a connection to one of his previous victims.
The Buzz: Jason Statham is kind of cookie cutter, and this looks to be just another of his many action extravaganzas, but he does turn in some good work from time to time. Death Race, for instance, was good, and I enjoyed the first Transporter too. Ben Foster has been on the rise now for quite some time — I imagine a few years from now he’ll be knocking on the door of the household name. I enjoyed him a lot in Pandorum,...

While this weekend brings us the world premiere of the cinematic epic Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, Syfy is already putting out promotional clips for their next offering for February, Iron Invader, which sees Earth invaded by a alien bacteria that not only fatally infects people, it also brings a giant ironworks statue to life to go on a rampage.
Alien bacteria arrives on a meteorite and infects metal, animating a giant iron statue that goes on a killing rampage in a small town. It's up to Kavan Smith ("Stargate: Atlantis", "The 4400"), Chris Gauthier ("Eureka", "Smallville"), Nicole DeBoer ("Haven", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"), Paul McGillion ("Stargate: Atlantis", "Sanctuary") and Donnelly Rhodes ("Battlestar Galactica", "Charles in Charge") to save the world.
If there's one thing that cast proves, it's that if you've ever starred in a Syfy original series, then you pretty much look to have a job for life appearing in Syfy original movies.

The Vancouver-shot fantasy series Sanctuary returns to Syfy next week. To celebrate this, the channel is giving away a Sanctuary t-shirt to one lucky reader. You can see an image of the t-shirt below.
If you are also a fan of Stargate Universe, this giveaway should be even more enticing because the winner will also receive a Stargate Universe t-shirt resembling the shirt worn by Eli Wallace (David Blue) in the show (there's a small pic with the headline on the CinemaSpy homepage). That's not all, though. The prize pack also includes a Syfy-branded iTunes Gift Card.
There is some bad news, though (and please don't shoot the messenger). By orders of Syfy, this contest is only open to Us residents (that cuts us out, for a start).
To enter the giveaway, there are two things you need to do:
1) Tell us below what you are most looking forward to...
