The new Elle Woods is out and about in new set images from the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series. Lexi Minetree, who was handpicked by original star Reese Witherspoon to portray the younger version of the character, is clad head-to-toe in pink in the new images, which come via Backgrid. The prequel series, Elle, is set to stream on Prime Video. The images portray the high-school-aged Woods on a shopping trip with a group of friends, all wearing distinctly 1990s fashions. That's in keeping with the series' timeframe, which will depict the high school years of Woods before the events of the 2001 movie, which saw her head off to law school and prove to be surprisingly adept at jurisprudence.

The Legally Blonde franchise announced it would adapt a prequel series, Elle, on Amazon Prime Video. Prime ordered the series in May 2024 and began searching for a young and upcoming actress to play the teenage Elle Woods. After many months, they landed on their choice in February 2025, with the casting of Elle's parents following in March. Ten months into the process, the Legally Blonde prequel TV series has completed the Woods family trio.

There isn't much known about Elle Woods' parents, but there are brief scenes of them in the movies. We can assume they played crucial roles in Elle's teen years. Because their parts are essential, fans will expect great acting from the prequel's actors.

Elle, Prime Video’s upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series, has now cast the titular character's mom. The series will explore Elle Woods' formative high school years before she's eventually compelled to attend Harvard Law School. Starring Lexi Minetree as the young Elle, the show is helmed by creator Laura Kittrell and executive produced by Reese Witherspoon, who originally brought the pink-loving legal powerhouse to life in the 2001 film and its 2003 sequel Red, White, & Blonde. Elle is expected to begin production between March and July 2025.

According to Deadline, June Diane Raphael has been cast to play Elle’s mom, Eva, a sophisticated and meticulous woman who takes pride in maintaining a flawless image. The role was originally minor in the movies, played by Tane McClure, but the prequel series is set to expand upon the family dynamic behind Elle's unrelenting drive and chic fashion sense.

Exclusive: June Diane Raphael has been tapped as a lead opposite Lexi Minetree in Elle, Prime Video’s upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series executive produced by the film franchise’s star Reese Witherspoon.

Created by Laura Kittrell, Elle follows Elle Woods (Minetree) in high school.

Raphael will play Elle’s mom and role model, Eva, who is polished, pragmatic and thrives on keeping things picture-perfect.

In the movies, the role was small and played by Tane McClure as Elle’s mom and dad both tried to dissuade her from going to Harvard.

Kittrell and Caroline Dries serve as co-showrunners. They executive produce with Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter of Hello Sunshine and the films’ producer Marc Platt. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) is directing the first two episodes. Elle is produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios.

For the first time since beginning this editorial series, we’re discussing a documentary rather than a fiction film. That’s because Yellow Veil just released a supersized documentary about the history of the Erotic Thriller called We Kill For Love: The Lost World of the Erotic Thriller (2023).

Clocking in at 163 minutes, this is a thorough, occasionally indulgent documentary written and directed by Anthony Penta. The doc uses a framing device featuring an archivist character, played by Michael Reed, cataloguing countless VHS tapes and watching “Suspect Interviews” (aka talking head interviews) in his dimly lit office. These segments recur throughout We Kill For Love, and also feature voice-over narration from Penta that are partially purple prose, partially quotations from academic articles and books on the genre.
