Netflix’s ‘The Electric State’ Ending Explained: Is Christopher Dead Or Alive?
Image
The Electric State’s ending is all about Michelle arriving at the decision [Spoiler Alert] to kill her long-lost brother, Christopher, in order to bring down Skate and his Sentre droids. As revealed by the opening of the film, Christopher was somewhat of a genius and was poised to become the next big name in the world of tech. Around the time the robot war began, Michelle, Christopher, and their parents were involved in a car crash. The parents died, Michelle was injured, and Christopher was abducted by Dr. Amherst and delivered to Sentre. After an Mri scan, Skate apparently figured that the only way to run the entire Neurocaster network and the drones linked to it was by turning Christopher into its processor unit. So, it kind of saved Christopher from dying, but the process gave birth to Skate’s fascist remotely manned drone police force. Amherst couldn’t tolerate watching...

‘The Afterparty’ Stars Ben Schwartz and Sam Richardson Discuss the Killer — and Dissect the Clues
Image
Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Maggie,” the Season 1 finale of “The Afterparty,” which debuted on Apple TV Plus on March 4.

The stars of “The Afterparty” have been lying to their families.

That’s because the comedic whodunnit, which hails from director-showrunner Chris Miller and executive producer Phil Lord, established a strict rule of secrecy from Day 1. But after Friday’s finale revealed the killer to be Ben Schwartz’s Yasper, the cast can finally come clean to their loved ones, and hundreds of Reddit detectives can hang up their investigative hats.

“I’ve been semi-playing werewolf with everybody,” Schwartz tells Variety. “I still haven’t told my parents. My dad thinks it’s Maggie [Everly Carganilla], the little girl. My mom thinks it’s Walt [Jamie Demetriou]. My agents and managers don’t know because Chris told me not to tell anyone, and I’m very good at keeping secrets.

Please Like Me (2013)
‘Everything’s Going to Be Okay’ From Josh Thomas: TV Review
Please Like Me (2013)
One of the hallmarks of Josh Thomas’ particularly spiky and sympathetic sense of humor is how he takes a situation we’ve seen unfold on TV before and makes the bold choice to let his characters react like actual human beings. On his semi-autobiographical comedy “Please Like Me,” people struggled through depression and their gnarled feelings with such candor that it felt both jarring and revelatory. The same holds true for his new Freeform comedy “Everything’s Going to Be Okay,” which follows a trio of siblings — played by Thomas, Maeve Press and Kayla Cromer — learning how to care for each other after their father (Christopher May) dies. They’re angry and sad in their grief, of course, but they’re also still themselves: messy and funny, wry and earnest. When, after their father’s funeral, they feel a need to express themselves with a wildly silly dance session in their kitchen,...

Josh Thomas, Maeve Press, Kayla Cromer, and Adam Faison in Everything's Gonna Be Okay (2020)
'Everything's Gonna Be Okay': TV Review
Josh Thomas, Maeve Press, Kayla Cromer, and Adam Faison in Everything's Gonna Be Okay (2020)
Deaths, divorces, moves, adoptions, abandoned futures — sitcoms, for all their reputation for frivolity and escapism, tend to spring from trauma and upheaval. But few, with the exception of more recent prestige dramedies, lend the inciting turmoil the gravity and sensitivity it deserves.

Freeform's Everything's Gonna Be Okay looks in many ways like a typical family sitcom, with a 20-something outsider (creator-star Josh Thomas) taking on the parenting responsibilities for his teenage half-sisters (Kayla Cromer and Maeve Press) after their dad (Christopher May) dies of cancer. The girls are hyper-articulate, their dog impossibly adorable and their house the kind ...

‘Everything’s Gonna Be Okay’ Review: Their Brother’s Keeper
Nicholas is not someone who should be charged with caring for the well-being of children. Possibly not even a small, nigh-indestructible pet. Even the people who like Nicholas can tell within seconds of meeting him that this twentysomething is an inveterate narcissist with little to no awareness of the needs, feelings, or even existence of others. Flirting at a bar with cute guy Alex, Nicholas insists they have a connection. “I’ve barely spoken,” Alex replies. “I think any feelings you think you have for me are actually feelings you have for your own anecdotes.

'Project Runway' recap: 'It's Fashion Baby'
Christopher May
Can you believe Ven is gone? I know; it's a huge relief. Anyway, the designers feel the same way, and not just because they were so sick of that fan/flower trick they wanted to yank their own teeth to distract themselves from the searing pain of seeing it over and over and Over again. But Ven's timely exit has left them a little shaken -- and focused on getting to Lincoln Center. Christopher, however, is feeling confident, having won three challenges. I think Christopher may be getting a little smug, really. As we know, this challenge takes our designers to a Babys...

Deluxe Unit Buys Oz Post Biz From ‘Happy Feet Two’ Co-Producer OmniLab Media
Don Groves is a Deadline contributor based in Sydney. Late last year, OmniLab Media and George Miller and Doug Mitchell’s Kennedy Miller Mitchell disbanded their digital production joint venture Dr D Studios after making Happy Feet Two. Now, OmniLab Media is selling its visual effects and post-production businesses to Deluxe Australia, a subsidiary of Deluxe Entertainment Services Group. OmniLab will continue to produce films and TV series, notably holding onto production divisions Ambience Entertainment (Killer Elite, Tomorrow, When The War Began) and New Zealand-based Oktobor Animation (which supplied visual effects to the TV series The Penguins of Madagascar, Fanboy and Chum Chum and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness). Margins are tight in the local post business, amid a prolonged downturn in Australian film production and international films that location in Oz. An industry exec opines that OmniLab’s owners Graham Mapp and his son Christopher may have felt...

Episode Recap: Castle - 3.08: "Murder Most Fowl"
Usually the round-robin style of going through suspects on Castle (TV) leaves my head spinning. But this is the first time the murder victim was almost irrelevant. Almost. Len Levitt's body gets assaulted by two BMX bike riders in the park. He's got a broken wrist and a few bullet wounds in his chest and back. There is also a bird feather in his pocket, which Castle (Nathan Fillion) immediately expounds upon as the calling card of some diabolical killer from a Sherlock Holmes novel. Lanie (Tamala Jones) is confused because the bullet wounds are at different depths. As though he were shot in the chest long range and then shot in the back at close range. Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Esposito (Jon Huertas) check out Len's apartment and find a myriad of weird things. A number board counting into the millions, a map with red marks all over it,...

"Project Runway" 6.10 Recap: "Around the World in Two Days"
"Project Runway, I have to send you back to the workroom to clean up your space."

That's what I wanted to say after the judges sent Shirin packing last week. She may have had on off week, but Shirin was one of the few remaining designers with real promise. But my disbelief and displeasure at PR Season 6 was only compounded by last night's episode.

The show began with a field trip to Rodeo drive where the designers respectfully ooh'ed and aah'ed at all the fashion boutiques. Who are they trying to kid? If you've ever lived in La you'd know Rodeo drive is nothing more than an outlet mall for Larry King's ex wives.

Tim Gunn leads them to Michael Kors' boutique where they meet up with The Tangerine One himself who muses loftily about how much his collections have been "inspired" by all his exotic international globetrotting.
