Good Omens' Terry Pratchett Would've Been '100% Open' to Diversity Changes
Image
Producer Rob Wilkins, Terry Pratchett's representative, has confirmed that the late writer would have approved of Good Omens' approach to adapting the 20th-century book in a modern social context.

Neil Gaiman and Pratchett's Good Omens novel was published in 1990, and its live-action adaptation graced the screens with its presence almost 30 years later -- naturally, there had to be some changes to make the show fit into the 21st-century world. While Gaiman is actively working on the series as the showrunner, Pratchett sadly passed away in 2015, never able to see his creation's legacy. Still, according to Wilkins, the late author wouldn't have minded the series having a more diverse cast and reflecting today's realities. "Terry, I'm sure, would've been 100% open to these things," the producer assured (via Den of Geek).

Terry Pratchett “Would Have Been 100% Open” to Diversity in Good Omens
Image
When the late author Terry Pratchett, and Rob Wilkins – then his personal assistant, now head of Pratchett’s literary estate – visited a Somerset school to see a production based on one of Pratchett’s novels, they were met with a surprise.

“There’s a school in Bruton, just north of where we live and we were invited along for a school play” remembers Wilkins, speaking to Den of Geek on the set of the Good Omens TV series on which he serves as Executive Producer. “We were sitting in the Headmaster’s office. The Head of Drama came to see us and was going to take me and Terry along to go into the school hall where everyone was present, ready to put on a performance of Johnny and the Dead.

“As we were walking along, I realised that the Head of Drama was one step behind, then two steps behind,...

Blue Hawaii 4K

Elvis Presley’s handlers found the formula that would keep his stardom solvent through the 1960s in this well-confected, calculatedly vacant star vehicle that Everybody liked and enjoyed in 1961. The coolest celeb in America ended up in some of the squarest, least-hip films of the era. Why do we like it so? Cutting through the fog of nostalgia reveals the appeal. The Hawaiian scenery is a knockout, plus there’s good support from Joan Blackman and especially Angela Lansbury, who humbles herself to play an idiot mother caricature for Mister ‘Rock-a-Hula.’

Turner Classic Movies Celebrates Elvis Presley's Birthday With All Day Film Festival January 8
Happy Birthday, Elvis!

by Tom Lisanti / www.sixtiescinema.com

In honor of Elvis Presley's birthday, Turner Classic Movies is running an all-day marathon of his movies on Friday January 8. Below are comments from his former co-stars whom I interviewed for my various publications:

6:15am Harum Scarum

Elvis is a singer kidnapped on tour in the Middle East and goes from swingin' with dancing gypsies Brenda Benet, Gail Gerber and Wilda Taylor to falling in love with a princess, Mary Ann Mobley.

"Elvis was intelligent, quiet and very sweet. But at that time, he seemed like a young man in turmoil—sort of like a ‘Who do I have to fuck to get off this picture’ kind of thing. Elvis was a tortured guy who obviously hoped for, and deserved, something better than the movies he was getting offered to do like Harum Scarum." - Gail Gerber, Trippin' with...
