Patrick Walden, Babyshambles Guitarist, Dead at 46
Image
Patrick Walden, the London-born musician who served as former lead guitarist of Babyshambles, has died. He was 46 years old.

Walden’s passing was announced in a social media post by Babyshambles, which read, “It is with deep regret and sadness that we share the news of Patrick Walden’s death. We feel very fortunate to have known/loved and worked with him and we kindly ask for respect and privacy during these difficult times.”

No cause of death has been revealed at this time.

Walden came up in the London scene and played in bands like The White Sport, Fluid, and the Six Cold Thousand before joining Babyshambles as a founding member in 2004, launching the project alongside The Libertines’ Pete Doherty. Together, the two co-wrote some of the groups most well-known songs, including the 2005 single “Fuck Forever” from their debut album, Down in Albion.

In 2006, Walden left Babyshambles, but continued...

This 75% Fresh Guy Ritchie Gangster Film Broke a Major Hugh Grant Trend 5 Years Before Heretic
Image
Quick Links The Gentlemen Includes One of Hugh Grant's Best Performances Grant Is Often Associated With Rom-Coms Heretic Gave Grant Another Successful Villainous Role

Guy Ritchie's movies have spanned gangster-based plots and Disney live-action remakes. His work can usually be spotted by the kind of script and humor he uses in each piece, particularly when it comes to the gritty London tales, as well as recurring actors. He first rose to fame as a writer and director in 1998 with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, followed up by Snatch two years later. Once his career took flight, he embarked on different genres, expanding his filmography. In 2019, he once again revisited a criminal underworld with The Gentlemen. The uniqueness of the plot gave the film its individuality but didn't stray from the traits that make Ritchie movies so entertaining.

In the movie, an American drug lord residing in England...

‘The Toxic Avenger’ Collection 4K Review – Troma’s Franchise Gets Ultimate Release Ahead of the Remake
Image
Over the course of its 50-year existence, Troma has helped launch the careers of filmmakers like Trey Parker & Matt Stone (South Park), James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Eli Roth (Hostel), along with countless actors who went on to long careers, but their biggest export by any internal metric — financial success, brand recognition, franchisability, fan base — is 1984’s The Toxic Avenger.

The film is preceded by an “extreme violence” warning. The gore is indeed graphic — the first kill features a kid’s head being run over by a car, firmly establishing that no one is safe and nothing is off limits — but it could use about a dozen more trigger warnings by today’s standards. If you can be offended, you will be offended by the boundary-pushing content that includes (but is certainly not limited to) racism, homophobia, ableism, and sexual misconduct — yet there is substance behind the sleaze.

My Spy 2 Is Bringing Back Dave Bautista To Lead A Stacked Cast
Image
After the successes of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" flicks, "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," and "Knock at the Cabin," Dave Bautista has pretty much solidified himself as the greatest wrestler-turned-actor of the era. Like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and John Cena before him, Bautista was originally pigeonholed in tough guy roles because of his size before producers realized, "Hey, this guy is legitimately hilarious." Bautista has been showing off a wide range of acting talent for years now, including holding his own in the 'charismatic action star meets cute kid' formula on display in "My Spy."

The action comedy was released in 2020 to less-than-stellar reviews, but according to Variety, "My Spy" was the third most-watched film on SVOD the year of release. With Bautista's star being pushed to the stratosphere, it's no surprise Prime Video was interested in a sequel. What is a surprise, however, is how the...

Dave Bautista 'Fanboyed' Over M. Night Shyamalan While Meeting About Knock At The Cabin
Image
"Big" Dave Bautista has had a phenomenal run since making the career pivot from sports entertainment to acting in some of Hollywood's biggest films. The six-time world wrestling champion broke into the mainstream as Drax the Destroyer in James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" series but has since starred in films like Denis Villeneuve's "Blade Runner 2049" and "Dune," Zack Snyder's "Army of the Dead," as well as Rian Johnson's whodunnit, "Glass Onion." With his larger-than-life stature and ability to command a scene, Bautista has more than proven himself to be so much more than just a former WWE Superstar.

The caliber of directors that have sought out Bautista's talent is a true testament to his abilities as a performer because there are plenty of career veterans who would kill for the opportunity to work with any of the esteemed creatives that have helmed Bautista's filmography.

The 12 Best Billy Bob Thornton Movies, Ranked
Image
In "The Grey Man," the Russo brothers' latest expansive (and expensive) collaboration with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Billy Bob Thornton gets the "and" credit. That's fitting in terms of screentime, but it doesn't capture what Thornton brings to the film. His presence is the skeleton key to unlocking Marcus, McFeely, and the Russos' intentions. Thornton was one of the 1990s most prominent talents, a force in front of and behind the camera — sometimes in the same picture. "The Grey Man" deliberately rips its espionage and quip-to-dialogue ratio from the decade that made Thornton famous. Thornton gets this. He calibrated his whole performance as Donald Fitzroy — from its winking elements to sincerest stretches — knowing what "The Gray Man" is after. It's smooth. It's electric. That's peak Billy Bob Thornton.

Thornton has rarely stopped working or ceased being smooth or electric since his heyday more than two decades ago. He's...

Seth Rogen’s ‘An American Pickle’ on HBO Max Releases First Trailer (Watch)
Image
HBO Max has revealed the first trailer for “An American Pickle,” an upcoming comedy starring Seth Rogen set to premiere on the platform on Aug. 6.

Directed by his frequent collaborator Brandon Trost, Rogen plays Herschel Greenbaum, a Polish ditch digger who immigrates to the U.S. in 1920 to fulfill his American dream. Herschel finds work at a pickle factory, only to fall into a vat of brine, putting him into suspended animation.

A century later, Herschel emerges from the brine in 2020, fully preserved. Although all of his immediate family members have died, Herschel is able to locate his great-grandson, Ben — who is also played by Rogen.

The two struggle to relate to each other in terms of family values, music and culture, with Herschel even pointing to a poster of David Bowie on Ben’s wall and asking, “Is this your father?” Still, Ben helps Herschel adapt to the 21st century,...

‘Strange Nature’ Review
Stars: Lisa Sheridan, Stephen Tobolowsky, Carlos Alazraqui, John Hennigan, Tiffany Shepis, David Mattey, Bruce Bohne, Jonah Beres, Chalet Lizette Brannan, Lilli Passero, Bryan Daniel Porter, Faust Checho | Written and Directed by James Ojala

Ecological horror is a genre that is not often tapped for terror these days, though it was – at one time – a staple of the horror genre, with films like Frogs, The Bees, Day of the Triffids, Them! and a myriad of spider-based movies asking “what if?” questions that captured the imagination of audiences for years.

Apparently based on true unsolved outbreaks of wildlife mutations (Loosely based), Strange Nature marks the directorial debut of fx maestro James Ojala and tells the story of Kim (Lisa Sheridan) and her son Brody who move back in with Kim;s estranged hermit father in the backwoods of a small town and find themselves in the middle of a horrendous phenomenon where...

Hancock 2 May Still Happen Says Peter Berg
Will Smith in Hancock (2008)
After Hancock raked in an impressive $624 million worldwide, with $227.9 million coming from the domestic box office, it's somewhat surprising we haven't seen Hancock 2 already, nearly four years later. Hancock director Peter Berg said recently that there is still talk of a sequel moving forward, only nobody is sure when it may happen. Here's what the director had to say below.

"We've been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, [producers] Michael Mann and Akiva Goldsman and myself. We're all interested, but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for sequel -- and Will Smith actually had the idea -- so I think it will happen, it's just a question of timing."

The last time we heard anything about Hancock 2 was back in September 2009, when Peter Berg...

Tips for Working with Fake Blood
Vampires and zombies. Cops and corpses. Murderers and mad scientists. All parts an actor might be called on to play-and all will likely put you in the vicinity of fake blood. Here are a few tips for working with this sticky, sinister substance.1. Wear your laundry-day underwear.Even if you're protected by a multilayered costume, there's no guarantee the stuff you've got on underneath will survive a day of pseudo-gore. Actor David Mattey sacrificed a few unmentionables while being drenched in 18 gallons of fake blood during a gory death scene in the cult-classic film "Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV.""The underwear I had on under my costume for that scene was pink for the rest of its life," he says. "Wear stuff that you aren't in love with, 'cause you may have to throw it out."2. Invest in a can of shaving cream.Your skin may also bear the brunt of.

Thor: casting and production updates plus fan-made poster
Filming started two weeks ago on Marvel Studios' big-screen adaptation of its Thor comic book, with Star Trek's Chris Hemsworth in the title role, and a new fan-made poster gives some indication of what superhero enthusiasts are hoping to see on screen.

It also gives The Geek Files the perfect opportunity to round up the latest news and gossip on the movie.

One week into production, director Kenneth Branagh told MTV: We have many miles to go and promises to keep, but so far, so good.

"Everybody's doing very good work and just a lot of it is so promising. Fingers crossed for everybody and everything. Hemsworth is a great guy."

We know that Tom Hiddleston is playing Thor's villainous brother Loki; Anthony Hopkins is the brothers' father Odin, ruler of Asgard; Renee Russo is Frigga; Ray Stevensen, Tadanobu Asano and Josh Dallas play the The Warriors Three...

'Thor' Roundup: New Casting, Screenwriter Discusses 'Adjustments' To Comic History
With principle photography on director Kenneth Branagh’s much anticipated “Thor” adaptation finally starting this week, Ashley Miller — one of the screenwriters attached to the project — has stated that the movie version of “Thor” will remain recognizable to comic book fans.

"It's about as close as you can reasonably expect it to be [to the comic book],” Miller said during a recent appearance on Alpha Waves Radio. "Obviously, you have to make some adjustments, and you have to compress some things simply for the sake of being able to get a lot of information out and being able to create a believable fantasy world that intersects with ours."

"Look at 'Batman Begins' for example," continued Miller. "It does actually play fast and loose with the history of the character, but at the same time, it brings in real cool elements from different interpretations of the character and puts them all together in cool ways.

Screenwriter Compares 'Thor' to 'Batman Begins'
Thor screenwriter Ashley Miller has assurances for comic book fans.

"It's about as close as you can reasonably expect it to be [to the comic book]," Miller said according to MTV, which transcribed Miller’s recent appearance on Alpha Waves Radio. "Obviously, you have to make some adjustments, and you have to compress some things simply for the sake of being able to get a lot of information out and being able to create a believable fantasy world that intersects with ours."

Principal photography has begun on Kenneth Branagh’s film, which recently moved into the May 6, 2011 spot formerly held by the now-defunct Spider-Man 4. With the Spider-sequel no longer around, one could argue Marvel’s hopes of summer dominance now rest squarely on Thor’s powerful shoulders.

Miller said the film should deliver, so long as fans aren’t completely wedded to the comic, or at least, no more than Bat-film fans were when Batman Begins came out.
