Leiji Matsumoto was born on 25 January 1938 in Fukuoka, Japan. He was a writer and director, known for Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (2003), Saraba Uchû Senkan Yamato: Ai no Senshitachi (1978) and Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years (1985). He was married to Miyako Maki. He died on 13 February 2023 in Tokyo, Japan.
