A Peacemaker Season 2 Easter Egg Subtly References An Underrated Batman Show
Image
Spoilers for "Peacemaker" season 2 to follow.

Christopher "Peacemaker" Smith (John Cena) may have helped foil an alien invasion, but he's still the butt of jokes in the superhero community. In the "Peacemaker" season 2 premiere, Peacemaker interviews to join the "Justice Gang." However, neither Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), nor the team's moneyman, Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), are impressed by him.

The interviews take place in an abandoned storefront labeled "Krank's Toys." That's not a real brand, but it does have some DC Universe history behind it. The cartoon series "The Batman," which premiered in 2004, featured the villain Cosmo Krank/The Toymaker (Patton Oswalt), the former owner of Krank's Toys turned super-villain.

Why Drew Goddard's Sinister Six Movie Was Canceled
Image
A little over a decade ago, Sony Pictures set out to grow the "Amazing Spider-Man" franchise into a whole cinematic universe. Beginning in 2012 with Marc Webb's reboot, which starred Academy Award-nominee Andrew Garfield as the titular webhead, the studio had ambitious expansion plans with the upcoming sequel as well as a slew of spinoff films that were in development. Although "The Amazing Spider-Man" didn't receive the most enthusiastic reception from critics and fans compared to Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire's "Spider-Man" a decade earlier, people were still interested to see what Webb and Garfield had in store for the sequel. It offered a chance for this new reboot to distinguish itself without having to follow the tried-and-true origin story again.

Unfortunately, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" was an overall disappointment. The film received mixed reviews, criticized for its messy tone and a script that reeked of studio interference. To be fair,...

Why The Crow's End Credits Dedication Reads "For Brandon and Eliza" (Not Just "For Brandon")
Image
The 1994 supernatural film The Crow was dedicated to "Brandon and Eliza," and there's an even more tragic reason behind it than fans might know. The Crow, based on the comic series by the same name, is about Eric Draven (Brandon Lee), a rock musician who's resurrected from the dead to avenge his and his fiance's death. Ironically, Lee, at the age of 28, experienced an eerily similar demise to his character. While filming, Lee was shot with a prop gun that wasn't properly checked for safety, causing his horrific death. This, along with other non-fatal filming accidents, led to allegations that The Crow's set was cursed.

Brandon Lee's fatal firearm accident on the set of The Crow was a result of a series of small decisions. During filming, Michael Massee, who played Funboy, was supposed to fire a .44-caliber revolver from 15 feet away and Lee needed to trigger a squib...

“I actually don’t know”: Even Andrew Garfield Has No Idea About Spider-Man’s Greatest Mystery
Image
Although Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland are loved as the web-slingers in their own respective places, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man was just a bit different. Maybe it was his physique or just his impeccable performance in the role, but what can’t be denied is just how distinctive his version of Peter Parker was — something that further made fans yearn for his unmade third installment.

That being said, the third installment in his film series would have unarguably further explained the greatest mystery related to his friendly neighborhood superhero. But since the film never came to be, fans thought it better to ask Garfield to unwind that mystery. However, as surprising as it may be, it turns out that even the 40-year-old actor is as much in the dark about this as everyone else!

“Brandon Lee died making it”: Original ‘The Crow’ Director Claims Bill Skarsgård’s Reboot is a Travesty That Should Not Exist in Scathing Statement
Image
The remake of the 1994 movie, The Crow starring Bill Skarsgård is garnering major attention. While there’s still time for the movie to arrive on the big screen, original film director, Alex Proyas has recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming reboot which is far from positive.

Bill Skarsgård as Draven in The Crow

The filmmaker is quite against the idea of his movie getting a remake to keep it away from tainting Brandon Lee’s legacy.

Alex Proyas is Not Happy With The Crow Remake Starring Bill Skarsgård

Based on the limited comic book series by James O’Barr, The Crow is intended to be a remake and reboot of the iconic 1994 film of the same name.

The Crow 2024: Plot, Cast, Trailer, and Everything We Know about the Sequel
Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs in The Crow (2024)
If you're an Og comic book fan and one of the lucky people born in the 1900s, you likely remember the frenzy revolving around the '94 film adaptation of the comic book The Crow, starring Brandon Lee.

While the original filming remains shrouded in the tragedy of the on-site death of the lead actor, that hasn't stopped movie makers from taking a stab at yet another version here in 2024.

The Crow is receiving a 2000s remake with a new face behind the supernatural being and an extended plotline suited to the current century. Here's everything we know about the 2024 version of The Crow.

Why Is The Crow Movie Being Remade?

The Crow franchise was heavily targeted in the '90s with several storylines that feature the Crow symbol.

The original '94 film garnered a lot of attention after the lead actor, Lee (son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee), tragically died on set during filming.

The Crow director Alex Proyas blasts the look of Eric Draven in the remake
Bill Skarsgård at an event for Nine Days (2020)
Yesterday, we saw the first images of what Bill Skarsgard of the It films is going to look like as goth rocker Eric Draven in director Rupert Sanders’ (Snow White and the Huntsman) remake of the 1994 classic The Crow (watch it Here). There weren’t a lot of positive reactions, with many fans comparing Skarsgard’s look – which Sanders said was a mixture of his own look in the ’90s, “when we were squat-raving in London,” with modern influences like Post Malone and Lil Peep – to Jared Leto’s poorly-received version of The Joker in Suicide Squad. One person who took to social media to blast the look of the new Eric Draven was Alex Proyas, who directed the ’94 version of The Crow.

Sharing one of the images, Proyas said, “Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day. Next reboot thanks.” In the comments, he continued to mock the look:...

“Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them,” reads Lionsgate’s synopsis. “Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”

The Crow comes to 4K with new and legacy bonus content
Image
We recently heard that Lionsgate has picked up the distribution rights to the reboot of the classic film The Crow (get it Here), which was released by Miramax back in 1994. Before Miramax acquired it, The Crow had originally been set up at Paramount. They decided to let go of it due to the controversy surrounding the on-set death of star Brandon Lee and the amount of violence in the film. So when Paramount acquired Miramax back in 2020, gaining the rights to The Crow in the process, it was like the film had gone full circle. It came back to Paramount. Recently, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski, mentioned a 4K restoration of The Crow would be on the Paramount Plus streaming service soon. While it hasn’t hit streaming yet, Blu-Ray.com announced that the 4K Blu-ray is set to come out on May 7th to mark the film’s 30th anniversary.

The 4K version looks absolutely amazing,...

'The Crow's Tragic History, From Inspiration to Production
Image
The long-awaited reboot of The Crow is almost here after development began as early as 2008. Since 1994's original, there have been several sequels and a TV show, but none of them have lived up to the source material. Truly the only worthy adaptation of James O’Barr’s comic book series is Alex Proyas’ 1994 cult classic, which stars Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, a musician who is beaten to death and resurrected by a crow. From there, the crow guides him to exact revenge on the gang that killed him and his fiancée, Shelley (Sofia Shinas). The movie is a gothic thriller that has gained a cult following since its release, and one of the reasons a reboot has taken so long to develop is the persistent doubt that the original can be topped. The harrowing plot was more haunting and poignant after lead star Lee’s tragic death on set...

One Cut Scene In The Crow Explains Something That Has Puzzled Fans
Image
This article contains discussion of self-harm

A deleted scene from The Crow explains Eric's use of electrical tape on his stomach and hands, showing his vulnerability and loss of powers. Eric's vulnerability during the church finale is due to a subplot involving the Skull Cowboy being cut from the film. The use of tape by Eric was adapted from the original comic but with a different purpose.

A deleted scene from 1994's The Crow explains a detail about the title character that has often puzzled fans. The '90s was famously a mixed era for comic book movies, and for every hit like Batman Returns, there was a major dud like Steel. One of the most acclaimed comic book films of this period was The Crow, which adapted the cult graphic novel by James O'Barr. The movie starred Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, a musician who is murdered alongside his girlfriend,...

Deaths on Location: How the ‘Twilight Zone’ and ‘Midnight Rider’ Tragedies May Influence ‘Rust’ Prosecution
Image
On the evening of July 23, 1982, “Animal House” director John Landis was filming a tricky nighttime helicopter scene for “Twilight Zone: The Movie.” The wide-open spaces of Indian Dunes, now part of Santa Clarita, Calif., were standing in for Vietnam, and the scene called for soldiers in a helicopter to pursue actor Vic Morrow, who was carrying two children. When the copter made a turn just above a large mortar round, the special effect explosive detonated, bringing down the helicopter and killing Morrow along with 7-year-old Myca Dinh Le and 6-year-old Renee Shin-Yi Chen.

The devastating accident shook Hollywood, and several months later, Variety announced that “Landis, pilot, others face ‘Twilight’ accident charges.” Landis and other “Twilight Zone” movie crew members were charged with involuntary manslaughter — the same charges “Rust” actor and producer Alec Baldwin and “Midnight Rider” director Randall Miller faced for their roles in on-set deaths.

Five years later,...

The Crow Reboot Is Officially In Post-Production, May Actually Happen This Time
Image
Get your eyeliner out and throw on your favorite Cure album, because it's looking like the seemingly-cursed remake of "The Crow" is actually going to be released. That's because Deadline reports that a new financier, Ashland Hill Media Finance, has boarded the project to help assist with post-production on the Rupert Sanders-directed film.

Sure, the news of a new financier might not mean much, but the fact that "The Crow" has entered post-production absolutely does. While the dark comic adaptation has had previous installments released, they have been relegated to direct-to-video and forgotten about on television. However, plans for a major theatrical reboot have been in the works since 2008. Since then, the project has flown through actors and directors, the most recent being Jason Momoa and Corin Hardy. Needless to say, when news of yet another attempt at the project broke earlier this year, many were skeptical that it...

‘The Crow Reborn’ Set To Begin Pre-Production
Many fans of “The Crow” have had mixed opinions about the upcoming reboot of the original film tentatively titled “The Crow Reborn”. Some feel that the studio should just leave well enough alone, while others are incredibly excited to see what can be done to bring this iconic character back to life.

The upcoming reboot is said to begin filming in February of 2018 after the project was resurrected by Sony Pictures after it was dropped by Relativity Media back in early 2017. It has all but been completely confirmed that Jason Momoa will be taking on the role of the title character Eric Draven and that author James O’Barr who created the original “The Crow” comic book series will most definitely be heavily involved.

There has been some that are criticizing Momoa as the choice to play Draven, as many feel that it would be impossible for anyone to possibly...

Tales from the Hood 2 Is Happening with Original Director
Tales from the Hood (1995)
After more than 20 years, Tales From the Hood 2 is finally happening. The horror anthology genre has come and gone over the years, but it's delivered its fair share of cult classics in the decades that the sub-genre has been around. One such cult classic is 1995's Tales From the Hood. Now, director Rusty Cundieff has revealed that a sequel is in the works. Though, he may have jumped the gun a bit.

The director took to Twitter recently to make the reveal that Tales From the Hood 2 is currently in development. In a tweet, that has since been deleted, indicating that he spilled the beans on the sequel a bit too early, the director revealed an image from his location scouting with the caption, "In New Orleans location scouting for Tales From The Hood 2 This is part of Anne Rice's old Home and where she held her LeStat parties.

Halloween 2017: Devil’s Night Double Feature – The Crow and House Of 1000 Corpses
[To get you into the spooky spirit, the Daily Dead team is spotlighting double features that we think would be fun to watch this Halloween season. Check here for more double feature recommendations and other Halloween 2017 coverage.]

In horror movies, things usually go so very wrong on October 31st when it comes to the Halloween-themed offerings of the genre. But what about the night before? October 30th, or “Devil’s Night”, can also bring about its own horrific consequences, which is the theme I went with when it came time to put together my double feature of Alex Proyas’ The Crow and Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses. Both are coincidentally feature film debuts for each director, they feature killer soundtracks, and this pair of films is also centered around a storyline where the characters will never be the same after their experiences on the night before Halloween.

Based on the comic by James O'Barr, The Crow finds aspiring rock star Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) rising from the grave a year after his death to take revenge on the four thugs (David Patrick Kelly, Angel David,...

Michael Massee, The Crow Actor and 24 Villain, Passes Away at 61
Michael Massee in Blacklist (2013)
The Hollywood community is in mourning once again, as another actor, one who had an unfortunate role in one of showbusiness' most mysterious tragedies, passed away. Michael Massee, the actor who accidentally shot and killed up and coming star Brandon Lee on the set of The Crow, has passed away at the age of 61. No specific details on his death were immediately available at this time.

Variety confirmed the actor's death with his agent, after the news first circulated on actor Anthony Delon's Instagram page on Monday. The actor worked with Michael Massee on the French TV series Interventions which premiered in 2014. Michael Massee played "Funboy" in The Crow, which was only his second movie role ever, and he reportedly never watched the film because of the tragedy on set that resulted in the death of Brandon Lee.

Michael Massee's character Funboy was scripted as the one who...

Newswire: R.I.P. actor Michael Massee
Michael Massee, an actor whose growling voice and intimidating mien made him one of Hollywood’s go-to portrayers of villains, murderers, and serial killers, has died. According to Variety, Massee was 61.

Appearing in everything from Criminal Minds to Rizzoli & Isles, to memorable cameos in the Amazing Spider-Man movies and a lead role on the first season of 24, Massee was an expert at projecting unwholesome and predatory intent. Whether he was playing 24’s darkly comic Ira Gaines, trading quips and bullets with Jack Bauer, or the satanic villain on NBC’s mid-2000s miniseries, Revelations, Massee captured the reptilian glee of pure evil with a commitment and relish matched by few character actors of his generation.

Unfortunately, Massee will most likely go down in history not for his skill as a performer, but for his involvement in a famous on-set tragedy. While co-starring as Funboy in the 1993 ...

‘The Crow’ Curse: How Michael Massee Unfairly Bore the Blame for Brandon Lee’s Death
Michael Massee in Blacklist (2013)
Michael Massee, who died Wednesday at the age of 61, is unfairly known as the man who killed Brandon Lee on the set of the 1994 film, “The Crow.” According to the New York Times, Lee was 28 years old when a prop gun was improperly prepared and discharged at him from 20 feet away, firing a bullet into his stomach. He died after several hours of surgery on March 31, 1993. The gun was supposed to fire a blank cartridge. Bob Rosen, the executive producer of the movie, told the Times that when the blank is fired, a “piece of soft wadding normally comes out of the.

Michael Massee Dies: Prolific Television and Movie Actor was 61
Rest in peace, Michael Massee.

Although he had a long and fruitful career in both movies and television, the beginning was enough to send a lesser man running for the exit.

Massee's second credited role was as Funboy in the feature film The Crow opposite Brandon Lee.

It was into his hands the fateful, improperly loaded gun was put, out of which a live round was shot directly into Lee's stomach.

Lee died later that day in the hospital after an unsuccessful surgery.

If all had gone well, the shot would have turned Lee's character into The Crow, and perhaps another type of movie history would have been made. It just wasn't meant to be.

Massee did take some time off from acting after the incident, and he never did see the completed film. He later admitted in a 2005 interview that he still suffered from nightmares over the incident, as...

That Epic Amazing Spider-Man 2 Deleted Scene Definitely Happened, According To Chris Cooper
Willem Dafoe’s Norman Osborn served as the main antagonist in 2002’s Spider-Man, but when Chris Cooper’s version of the character was introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, he didn’t get nearly as much screen time as his predecessor. After giving one final "pep talk" to his son Harry, he passed away from his mysterious illness, and Harry became the Green Goblin instead. However, when set pictures of Norman’s frozen head showed up, it hinted the series wasn’t quite done with him, and it turns out there was an epic deleted scene that was definitely meant to set up his return. Chris Cooper informed Comic Book Resources that he was "guaranteed" a bigger role in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, and the scrapped post-credits scene with Norman’s head (as well as Michael Massee’s mysterious Gentleman) ...

'Sinister Six' Causing Outdated 'Spider-Man 2' Blu-ray Features?
Last week, we reported that the Target exclusive Blu-ray release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 includes confirmation from director Marc Webb that the end credits stinger includes The Sinister Six villains Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio, although the filmmaker later admitted that he isn't even sure if they will appear in the spin-off. However, given Sony's recent announcement that The Sinister Six will hit theaters in 2016 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been moved to 2018, some believe that these special features are already outdated.

Among the details Marc Webb revealed in last week's video include a deleted scene where The Gentleman a.k.a. Gustav Fiers (Michael Massee) approaches the cryogenically frozen head of Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper), which paves the way for the OsCorp founder to return for "the next movie," which we believe he meant The Amazing Spider-Man 3. We now know that "the next movie" will be The Sinister Six,...

Webb Confirms Two Of "The Sinister Six"
We know Sony has been working on an "Amazing Spider-Man" spin-off film featuring the "Sinister Six," a kind of 'Avengers' of villains from the Spider-Man comics.

During the end credits for this year's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," we also saw sketches that seemed to reveal who these bad guy are - Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Rhino, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter and... it's unsure. The last one on the list was a mask which lead to suggestions it could be either Mysterio or Chameleon.

Now, word comes of a new video featurette on the bonus disc of the Target-exclusive Blu-ray release of the film. In said clip, Webb confirms Kraven and Mysterio are a part of The Sinister Six line-up.

Webb also confirms there was a deleted scene where The Gentleman, a.k.a. Gustav Fiers (Michael Massee) visits the cryogenically frozen head of Norman Osborne (Chris Cooper). "The Sinister Six...
