Going it solo for the third film in the series, Paco Plaza helms what is, by far, a much stronger film than [Rec]2 and a film that not only changes the game for the franchise, abandoning as it does the “found-footage” perspective on proceedings, but also expands the mythos and the scope of the series, throwing religion much more to the fore in a way that takes the series, and the traditional zombie film, to whole new levels. To paraphrase the opening of Roger Ebert’s uncharitable review of the original Halloween II, it’s sad to watch a fall from greatness. That’s what we get in [Rec] 3.

When the original [Rec] came out in 2007, it was an instant classic of the zombie subgenre and another example that our best horror movies were being made outside the U.S. Then, by the grace of the smiling movie gods, 2009’s [Rec] 2 actually managed to top it, picking up just minutes after the first film ended and taking an already terrifying story into an entirely new direction while not betraying the scares and intelligence of its predecessor. The latest installment takes the key elements that made those first two so great and rejects them like a bad kidney, quickly devolving into something painfully bland and boring.

If you’re anticipating the third installment of Paco Plaza’s highly praised [Rec] series, this brand new red-band trailer should certainly sate the appetite, at least for the time being. This piece of footage showcases some bloody wedding festivities, and while I’m not sure it’s worthy of an official “red band” tag, it’s still awfully entertaining! Sequel '[Rec] 3 Genesis' was originally supposed to hit UK theatres this month which sadly never actually transpired. However the third installment in the Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero created Spanish horror franchise will be making an appearance finally this September. As far as we know it'll still be receiving a limited theatrical run here in the UK from 31 August but it seems it'll be very quickly followed up now with a DVD and Blu-ray release also from 3 September. Most readers will recognise the poster shown below as it is actually identical to the previously revealed Spanish one-sheet, well apart from some loose translation for the attached tagline. The Paco Plaza (['Rec']) helmed sequel '[Rec] 3 Genesis' will hit VOD first across the Us from 3 August and then it will be followed up with a limited theatrical run from 7 September. The last word for UK-ers however was that we should be seeing this in theatres around the 11 May. The next Paco Plaza helmed installment will arrive in UK theatres from 11 May and is reported to be getting a DVD release around late August. After the global success of the original [Rec], a standard was set for found-footage zombie infection films that spread through outlets like Romero's Diary of the Dead. The American remake of [Rec], Quarantine, was unable to capture the intensity and raw emotion of the first film but gave it a damn good shot. The first sequel to the original [Rec] moved even further away from the American franchise, adding more and more religion into the mix and explaining the zombies as some sort of damned thing from the pits of Hell.

With the third installment of the Spanish films, director Paco Plaza moves away from the found-footage aspect after the first twenty minutes or so, giving us blissful reprieve from shaky handheld cameras and night-vision shots up people's nostrils. The film opens with a gorgeous young couple, Clara and Koldo, getting married...

Spanish horror follow-up '[Rec] 3 Genesis' opens across Spain at the end of the month. We've already been swamped with assets galore from the Paco Plaza helmed project in the '[Rec]' franchise and today is no let up as 4 more stills arrive thanks to Spanish website Sensacine.com. And not only that but there's also a couple of new clips from the prequel/sequel thanks to Arrow in the Head. This most recent title in the [Rec] series is a prequel to the first two films and in the trailer below, get set to see a worst case scenario for a wedding. No, the cake does not tip over. No sooner had we revealed a new promo piece to accompany Paco Plaza and Jaume Balaguero's '[Rec] 3 Genesis' horror prequel than the anticipated new trailer for the movie hits the web. Rtve have revealed the first look at the new Filmax International trailer which reveals more wedding day terror as things take a turn for the worse at a young couple's reception party. Filmed partially using the footage from the wedding video this is the first '[Rec'] installment which also utilises actual proper movie footage as opposed to found footage and will hopefully give us more of an insight into how the whole epidemic kicked off.
